These guys are responsible for getting Chicago based found VHS tape collage artist collective«Everything Is Terrible!» to perform a live show and viewing for their newest feature«Doggie Woggiez! Poochie Woochiez!»…and for that I am eternally grateful. After visiting their website, it appears they are one of the only DIY non-profit groups promoting the independent arts in Southern Orange County. The fact remains that this part of Orange County(especially Irvine), needs organizations like AE to encourage the masses to experience non-mainstream audio and visual arts. Being someone who grew up in a town that had very little for young people and young adults to do as far as experiencing the arts, I know how important it is to have an outlet like this. I applaud AE for existing, so people can experience something real for a change… not the mundane manufactured and fake corporate gobbly-goop that litters our radios and our TVs.

Everytime i go to a uci show i leave feeling like i have just graduated from a teenage rite of passage. i get so inspired and fucking happy. simply that. It’s small, sweaty, loud, and your face to face with the band and you just wanna stomp until you break the floor of the room. shows are cheap and accessible especially if you hate driving up to la just to see your fav band. it doesnt get the fifth star b/c i always have to expect to wait over 30 mins past the scheduled time. but WHATEVER. after everything these guys have done for me id wait for as long as i need. and its mostly a d-bag free zone! Sam Farzin is the man.

Thank you. An entity bold enough to continually bring something different to «The OC». It’s like having the bands/artists that you would normally have to drive out to LA to catch, at a venue like The Smell, brought right into our own backyard. The first time I came across an Acrobatics Everyday event, my response was a pure and resounding, «Thank you.» I’ve only personally been able to make it out to a couple events but they’ve both been well more than worth the always reasonable entry fee. It’s refreshing to see that someone is actively sticking their neck out to bring this stuff inward to us, regardless of how niche of a market it might conveniently cater to. It’s hard not to respect the fact, that instead of doing as most do, and migrating to an existing and already flourishing«scene» found in a larger metropolitan city and setting up shop there, you’ve chosen to keep it local. Keep up the good work.

IAWTC. Allow me to add a little bit more: Cool artists, nice people, cheap admission(occasionally free!), loud waiting-music, party-inducing spinny color light thing, FOGMACHINE, Donald Duck and other dumpster treasures, ins and outs(the door girl excels at remembering faces/outfits), sometimes free tortilla chips or pizza or brownies, always a good time. Camaraderie forever. Awesome music forever. Acrobatics Everyday 4eva.

Being under 21 in Irvine, I often feel overwhelmed by the array of entertainment available to me. Should I go to Yogurtland(again) or the dollar theater? Maybe the music playing in the parking lot at the District will be good. Sometimes there are just too many choices. Other nights there is only one choice: an Acrobatics Everyday show. AE isn’t a venue, exactly. It’s a DIY music organization bringing great bands to the UCI campus. The physical location on campus changes – most often it’s in the Phoenix Grille(where you can buy beer if you’re a jerk who can buy alcohol unlike me), but there have been shows in the Student Center ballroom, Aldrich Park, and one on top of the Mesa Parking Structure which got broken up three bands in. Why come to AE shows? They’re all ages. They’re inexpensive, costing 3 – 5 dollars on average. If you feel that there has been a dearth of awkward, spastic dancing in your life, you can dance your little heart out here. And the rest of you can watch the awkward dancers(or dancer, if it’s just me) and feel cooler. You can get 500% of the indie cred you could have gotten by buying one sweater at Urban Outfitters. That is a real statistic, proven by science. Finally, the bands are awesome. Hand-picked by Sam Farzin, music director at KUCI and tall bearded guy, these guys are legit and cover a broad range of musical tastes. Acrobatics Everyday has showcased Dan Deacon, Mount Eerie, the Mae Shi, PWRFLPOWER, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down and Jeffrey Lewis among many other great bands you may not have heard of. There’s a really informal feel to the shows, too. There’s no VIP room for the bands; there usually isn’t even a stage. You might find yourself in an impromptu capture the flag game with the Mae Shi. Snarkiness aside, AE has made it nice to be at to be at UCI right now. I get to listen to a lot of new music and save gas money. I get to see some of my favorite bands practically in my backyard. Sometimes I get to meet them. Thao Nguyen complimented me on my terrible dancing. Life is good.
