Strawberry mochi are dreamy pillows of cake, cream, strawberry wrapped in chewy mochi. Mmmmm. At $ 3.50 you would think it’s quite a splurge. You’re right, it is a splurge. I even googled«strawberry mochi cake» and found a decent recipe on how to make it yourself at home. … It’s OK — I’m quite OK to drive 15 miles up to Irvine for a mochi fix. Oh — the Korean style sesame mochi buns are quite addicting too.

I absolutely adore this little bakery and have been coming here for years with my family. True, you might want to get here earlier to have first pick at your favorite breads but honestly everything here is quite good. The cakes are fluffy and moist and not too sweet and their breads are pretty much the same as 85 degrees’s, but cheaper. My favorite things to get here is either the chicken pastry pie or the pineapple cakes. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t been before.

This bakery used to known as J Sweet Bakery for many years but recently got bought out by JJ Bakery a few months ago. I walked in randomly just to check the place out but immediately recognize the packaging for JJ Bakery. It was disappointing to see that JJ never bothered to remodel the place before moving in. There wasn’t much decorating or changes in the store except the packing of the cake, dessert, and bread. Everything else like the fridge, layout, and display all looked the same and very dated. The section of bread was fully stocked with a good variety. So at least you will find something you like. The cake selection also had a good selections as well. Everything tasted similar to 85 degrees except they don’t sell milk tea or coffee. The location was still busy like before and the line wrapped around the store. The bakery isn’t too big either so the place felt pretty packed. The staff were young and mostly men. They did ring you up quick and try to get as many ppl out the door.

Personally, I like the pastries here better than 85C. This place(or JJ Bakery to those who know) to me is a step above 85C. I think their quality is slightly better and I also like their selection better. There are a lot of things at 85C that I would never eat. They just don’t look appetizing. But that’s not the case here. My favorites here are anything taro and their egg tarts. But I haven’t had anything here I don’t like. I bought a box of pastries here for some co-workers and they all loved it. I think I created some new fans for J Sweet! =)

I like this place better than 85c. Less greasy and I feel like the goods are better made. Also, their green tea cake slice is something I like to get regularly. I also love something they call«flan pudding.» It’s sold in little glass bottles that are reusable(I use mine to store vitamins) and it’s legit: rich, caramelized enough to get that slight burnt flavor, rich creamy flan. I may just go there today. I like their breads too. Their cakes

The Vanilla Cheese Cake Roll and Double Cheese Cake Cup are amazing! The cake portions are light, fluffy, and not too sweet, and the fillings are very fresh and creamy.

Located in the same plaza as 99 Ranch, this place is similar to 85 Degrees in that they sell a variety of pastries and cakes and you can use a tray to collect your goodies before paying. Service is definitely not as friendly as 85 Degrees, but this place has a somewhat different selection of pastries. We got the BBQ pork, chicken pot pie, curry beef, hot dog and cheese, and taro pastries. Chicken pot pie: 5 star. The pastry was so flaky, and the chicken inside was juicy and very well seasoned. And they didn’t skimp on the chicken. By far my favorite pastry that I tried. BBQ pork: 2 star. The ratio of pork to bread was severely skewed towards bread, and the pork wasn’t BBQ at all. It was more braised than anything. Also, the mayo was a bit strange. Curry beef: 2 star. I really prefer Pie-Not for this pastry. At J Sweet, I found the pastry flaky(like the chicken), but the beef was way too salty for my taste, and I only tasted a small hint of curry. Hot dog and cheese: 1 star. I really prefer 85 Degrees for this. There was so much mayo on this pastry that I had to scrape it off. And it was still overpowering. If I was in the area, I wouldn’t mind getting more of the chicken pastry, but I wouldn’t bother with the other ones that I tried.

I bought 2 cream puffs, green tea mochi, and strawberry mochi = total was $ 8. And it was all delicious! I am feeling lucky to have discovered such a delicious cheap bakery!

I love this place. The bread and their pastry are amazing. We come here twice a week to get fresh bread and morning treats. Everything is always fresh, never too sweet. The only thing that is not convenient is that if you come later in the afternoon they are out of a lot of stuff, but I guess thats understandable since everything is fresh daily.

My family and I have been coming to this place for several years, like some others. I like their mochi and most of their baked goods, especially their pineapple bread and hot dog danish. I have yet to have a bad experience, so try this place out!

J Sweet Bakery kicks other bakeries’ buns! Their cakes are fantastic… soft, light, pillowy, not too sweet sponge cake with whipped cream and fresh fruit! YUM! I also love the individually wrapped pineapple shortcake that come in cute, lavender gift boxes. These Taiwanese treats are tender and buttery, unlike the shortcakes you buy at the Asian grocers. The mochi are simply the best. Fresh chunks of sweet, ripe fruit are whipped with cream and nestled inside pastel mochi. I also recommend the rich and creamy mango milky pudding. Most recently, I tried the Jasmine Green Tea and Strawberry Crème Brule. J Sweet Bakery’s new item, Strawberry Crème Brule is not really a crème brule, as it is not finished with burnt sugar on top, but rather, a fluffy, light strawberry cloud. It is served in adorable, miniature glass milk bottles which can be reused at home for your own culinary creations or for a lovely display of flowers. The Jasmine Green tea boldly hits your tongue with bitter and syrupy sweet floral notes.

I recently went here with my friends after eating at Taiko, curious to see what types of selection they offer here. That time, I bought the Red Bean Bread, because that is my all-time favorite Asian Bakery bread. The bread was very doughy and soft, but I felt like there should have been more red bean paste inside of it to match the thickness of the bread. It wasn’t too sweet though, which is nice. The second time I came here, I got the Mont Blanc cake, and my mom got the Yuzu Cheesecake. The Yuzu Cheesecake was very refreshing and had just the right amount of sweetness! I’d definitely come here again just to buy the Yuzu Cheesecake. On the other hand, the Mont Blanc was average. The cake on the bottom was extremely dry with little to no chesnut bits, which was disappointing. I wouldn’t buy the Mont Blanc again. What remains in my impression of this store is the horrible customer service. The cashier was very rude when we bought the cakes, and he kept messing up our simple cake order numerous times. For this reason, I took off one star.

Honestly this has the best place to get cakes. I hate 85 cake they are gross and bland. Their cake here absolutely scrumptious and moist. I recommend the chocolate mocha mousse or the breaded fruit cake(sorry forgot the name lol) and the black sugar mochi cake(´‘)

I like their green tea. It’s very very strong. And their sandwich is truly Taiwanese style. Their mango pudding is my favorite. However for breads I don’t like that much. Still a must in my life :-)

Umm what’s the point of opening your doors at 9:00 when the shelves are empty? Maybe a smile, hello, or thank you from your cashier might help your rating.

This review is only based off the mochi’s: I never buy anything from a bakery’s fridge, but I was intrigued about everyone’s rave of J Sweet Bakery’s mochi’s. I bought all 3(see my pics) to try, and they were all delicious! The strawberry is my favorite, then the mango, and last the green tea with red beans inside. Despite the fact that there is only 1 strawberry in the strawberry mochi and that the entire filling is almost all cream, it is so good! I just wish they cut up the strawberry into little chunks and pack it into filling like how they make the mango and green tea mochi’s.

This place is the nearest Asian bakery to me, and has a pretty good variety. Most of their stuff is different than what you’d get at 85 degress and aside from the egg tarts, I’d have to say that I actually like more of the stuff here. However, their non-Asian desserts have been kind of hit and miss for me. Last time I was in, I picked up a slice of Mont Blanc cake and instead of the frosting being nice and chestnut-flavored, there was a tiny piece of chestnut inside a mound of bland, two-color frosting. If you’re in here and not sure what to get, my personal favorites are the buttermilk bun, and the pinapple-shape bread with buttermilk. They both have a dense, rich, dry buttermilk filling that goes great with your morning coffee. Another small knock on the place is that you never really know what you’re going to get. Sometimes some items aren’t made that day. I’ve gone some days and they’ve got cronuts, cranberry crème cheese donuts, and egg tarts in the«made today» section. Other days I come back, and they have none of those things. However, I’m generally satisfied when I walk out of J. Sweet, both in terms of quality and in terms of how much I paid. Solid bakery.

Finally, I got my favorite Korean Mochi Bread in this location. My first try is the City of Industry branch. Then, I went to the one on Culver and they told me that they don’t have it. Also, I just got to know the owner is different from JJ bakery and J sweet although the Chinese name is the same. Highly recommend this Korean bread; texture is pretty good and taste is awesome! It’s pretty good combination with bread, Mochi and seasame. Will definitely come back for this bread! However, 3 star is for the overall. I was there at 6:00pm on Sat and only few variarities to choose from. Many customers come in and leave since they cannot find anything interesting. Weird… Great location and the management should pay more attention on their products.

I came here for the first time looking for a birthday cake. Asian cakes taste so much better than American cakes! The bread part is more moist/fluffy and the frosting isn’t overly sweet. We ended up buying a vanilla cream cake with fruits for around $ 23. It looked SUPER cute and tasted delicious! Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of it :(. This bakery also has a bunch of Asian pastries like hot dog rolls, green onion rolls, pineapple buns, etc. It isn’t nearly as hectic as 85 degrees bakery, so the bread might not be as fresh since they don’t need to constantly refill the trays. However this place is much closer my house and the bread is still tasty at a good price. I will definitely be coming back to buy a cake for the next special occasion!

I love the bread here… when they can be bothered to make it. They make my favorite breads of any area Chinese bakeries but they don’t bake in very large batches and aren’t cranking them out as often as, say, bakery powerhouse 85C. So subsequently if you arrive later in the afternoon, much less once the sun goes down, you’re frequently SOL when it comes to getting anything but the dregs that are left sitting around after everything else has been picked over. The stone bread is my favorite. At first glance, it appears to be a plain bun. But it’s actually a dense bread that has a subtle slightly sweet, buttery flavor baked in large layers with a split top. The blueberry cream cheese is another favorite. Puff pastry is formed into a cup shape and then filled with cream cheese cheesecake-like filling and then a chunk of chocolate cake is thrown into the middle for kicks. It’s a textural and taste delight. I happened to get here early today and found they also make chicken pies. Puff pastry baked with large chunks of chicken in a savory peppery gravy. The taste is 4 stars but if they don’t make enough for you to ever taste it, what difference does it make? 2 stars for unavailability. Average of 3 stars. Dear owners, please make more bread. Your shelves should not be half empty each time I want to buy something from you.
