Service here is great. The women working there are all super nice and accommodating. They give you things before you even ask! Came here on a Friday night after seeing the BCD line was super long and it was very empty. I made the mistake of getting it spicy though and was sweating through the meal because it was so hot. Haha overall tho, the side dishes were yummy and soup was tasty and service was awesome. Only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars is because they’re about $ 2 more expensive than BCD, and you would think with the sharp competitors and how slow business is for koba. Oh well, better than waiting 45 min for BCD!

Food: The food is okay but their side dishes are pretty good. Service: Depends on which sever you have. Some of them are really nice but some are very rude. Environment: Pretty clean but one sometimes, the dish washer comes out with his bins and dripping soap water while he was cleaning up my plates. Felt pretty grossed out after.

This place is comparable to BCD Tofu House. I used to go to BCD a lot since I tend to pull an all-nighter due to the struggle of nursing school. Koba Tofu Grill is close to where I live which is more convenient but they close at 2am. I would come here instead of BCD if only they are open 24 hours. The food here is okay. The price are off the chart tho. I would rate this place a 3.5 stars out of 5. I am willing to change my rating to a 4 if they extend their hours. Until then, I guess I won’t be coming back for a while.

4 stars for food + 2 stars for service = 3 stars I came here with two friends because it was one of those rare cold and rainy days that called for a hot pot of soup. It was a Tuesday right around noon time, and surprisingly we only waited about 10 minutes or so. I was relieved to see that the place wasn’t filled with UCI students, but rather people who work around the area(we’d stick out like a sore thumb among the young ones…*sigh*). Like many have mentioned, service here was pretty slow. Once we sat down, it took a while for our server to take our order. She brought us water and didn’t come back for a long time. I ordered the original soon tofu with beef($ 10.99) and my friends ordered the combo bibimbap + soon tofu(they were hungry). The bibimbap looked really good… shouldn’t have eaten breakfast, damn it. Then, we waited another while to get our banchan, and another while to get our actual food. I love banchan and their’s was pretty good(maybe 6 dishes total?). The soon tofu was hot(as they usually are) so I ended up being the last one to finish my meal(can’t help that I have a sensitive tongue!). Overall, the food was pretty good, but they need to improve on service. Our server and another male staff apologized for the delay on separate occasions, so it’s not like they’re not aware of it. I think they may be understaffed or just disorganized.

Not the best Korean food that I’ve had but it’s good enough to get my monthly fix of Korean food. :] I come here often enough with friends/roommates. They are very polite when you ask them for something and greet you with a smile. I finally decided to get take out and surprise! In addition to your meal, they also give the day’s banchan~ Sadly no fried fish(I always look forward to eating that.) I forgot to take the cling film off because I was so hungry. Sorry. Haha. It came with some green onion pancake, pickled radish(x3) and kimchi. It was a bit cold when I picked it up and got home, but that’s a part of getting take out instead of sitting down and eating. Sidenote: I noticed that a lot of people mention how they have«horrible» customer service as in, they generally leave you alone and don’t come by and ask if you need anything. Honestly, it’s just a different culture of service. In Asia, waiters don’t come and pester you every 5 – 10 minutes, asking if everything is fine, if you need more water, etc. They take your order, bring you food, and leave you alone until you wave them down for something. Other than that, there is little to no interaction between you and the waiter, hence why Asia doesn’t have a tipping system and the waiters at Koba are probably use to just being waved down when they are needed. In Western culture, specifically America, people expect waiters to come by and ask them if everything is alright, as that is a part of what is considered«good customer service.» It’s also partially why we have the tipping system which is highly irritating as it seems to be mandatory to be giving tip. Personally, I don’t mind them not coming by every 5 – 10 minutes because it can get annoying when I’m in the middle of chewing and a waiter decides to ask me if everything is alright. Thanks for interrupting me. When I need something, I’ll wave them down but other than that, leave me alone waiter. I just want to eat.
