Excellent school! As a Russian immigrant and a graduate of a music school myself, I was worried I would not find a well-organized, structured music program for my daughter in Irvine. I had very high expectations for a music program, as I want my daughter to play well, read and write solfeggio and appreciate the beauty of classical music. Fortunately, Opus119 completely exceeded my expectations. The class size was very small(4 kids), which allowed for frequent personal attention from the teacher. Teacher Christine, who is very good with kids, had a well-planned program for children and demanding, but gentle approach. My daughter learned to work hard and to have fun with the music. The song selection was outstanding, as the tunes are easy to memorize and were very much loved by my daughter, The program definitely challenged my daughter to learn solfeggio, memorize, concentrate, listen well, and perform. Of course, parental involvement is necessary — practice with the kids at home, learn the songs together, go over solfeggio. I was happy to do it. But I take music seriously, and this school is just a perfect match for us.

Ever saw the movie ‘Whiplash’? Of course Opus119 is nowhere near as abusive as the music director portrayed in the movie. But the main take away point of the movie is that kids are too often told ‘good job’ nowadays just so not to hurt their feelings. Opus119 is a school that tries to take kids to their highest potentials. Our often politically correct world now even has competitions that everyone wins so kids can have ‘self esteem’. Call me old fashioned but I think self esteem is not given but earned. If you do not mind mediocrity and want your kids always feel good, this may not be the school for you. Judge the school by the countless national and international awards its students have won over the years and the number of top notch universities these kids go to. I can guarantee you one thing: these successful kids were not told ‘good job’ all their lives.

I agree with all the reviews I have now read that are negative. If you love your child and you are concerned about your childs mental health– don’t bring them it this place. I would not even rate them with 1 star. Kelli W.

I started piano lessons at Opus119 when I was 8 years old and continued lessons for 9 years until I moved away to college. Opus undoubtedly gave me the highest quality musical training that I could have asked for and I can’t say how grateful I am to my parents for deciding to enroll me there. Regardless of whether your musical goal is to become a professional pianist or to simply learn the basics, I know from experience that Opus will go above and beyond to help you accomplish your goal. The opportunities that I had at Opus are nothing short of incredible – I got to play in masterclasses with world-class musicians and attend international music festivals, to name a few. But most of all, I had the opportunity to learn from teachers who are completely dedicated to helping their students grow not only as musicians, but as people. The care and attention that I was shown was amazing, given the sheer number of extremely talented students enrolled there. My teachers at Opus are like second parents to me and have always inspired me to improve myself in every aspect of life. Thank you so so much for everything you have done for me :)

My 11 yr old daughter has been attending Opus119 Conservatory of Music since the age of 6. As a mother, I couldn’t have asked for a better music school to have my daughter obtain her music education from. The faculties of this school are all great musicians in their own right, but most importantly they dedicate their time to pass-on their love of music to their students during lessons. The school’s method of teaching is not only effective in producing winners for those students who choose to pursue the path of competitions, but it is also highly effective in simply bringing the love of music into children of all ages and levels. The diverse personalities and background of the school faculties allow children of different personalities to be matched with the right teacher. Each of the teacher have been professionally trained to teach their students proper techniques, but most importantly these teachers have been very successful in instilling the love of music and confidence in their students. Opus119 Conservatory of Music is definitely a place where every student has the opportunity to thrive in music, not only because of its dedicated faculty members, but also because of the national and international affiliations the school has with many prestigious universities and notable music festivals worldwide. Thank you Opus 119 for making my daughter’s musical dream a reality!

I was a student at this music school for about 10 years, from the time that they first opened. The music education I received here as a piano student under Ariel Yang, Ethan Dong, and others far exceeds anything that my parents or I could have asked for. Sure, the teachers are tough, demanding even — however, coupled with their unwavering passion and dedication for teaching and music, this makes for an extremely effective method of teaching if you are willing to put in the same amount of effort. And as someone who has experienced this institution’s growth and development from its beginning, I have to say that the instruction here is just getting better and better — the students they have now are more talented than ever. If you want a music education experience that teaches you deep appreciation of music and instrument, as well as a high level of skill and performance, I absolutely recommend Opus 119. This place is truly special — the gift that they gave me still stays with me even now that I’m in college and do not have time to practice as much as I used to :)

We had been here for piano and violent class. Not a good place for beginner, they never care about kids, and all they care is money. The violent teacher even yelled and shout at my kid when teacher knew we were going to stop the lesson. This is very unprofessional. Her behavior tally traumatized my kid and made my child got scared of new teacher. I wish that no kids will been through this kind of situation anymore.

This is a music school that is all about the money. And the teachers don’t have any heart in actually teaching the class.

This place is amazing. My brother takes lessons here and hearing him play I had my doubts but it wasn’t until I heard the other students play that I realized that the song they play truly are amazing. The level of music they have people as young as my brother(5) playing is unbelievable. If you want to give your child the gift of music I highly recommend this place!

If you want to give the gift of music to yourself, a friend, or a child may I recommend Opus119. Their mission is to instill in their students a love and appreciation of music so that they may look beyond the routine of practice and allow music to become a natural and constant part of their lives, a gift to be enjoyed and shared with others. Their instructors have great training, are highly qualified, with strong academic pedigree to match. The owner, Eaton, is very accomplished and he has a strong desire for his students to be inspired and interested. The primary musical instruments taught at this music school are violin, cello, and piano. So if your serious about learning music… you have to check out the instructors here.
