what to order: anything! tip: they don’t have any sit-down area! I was silly to think that this sushi place would have some kind of bar top sit-down area. I’ve been to a sushi place inside of a Pavillion’s before and they had a small counter and chair for you to dine at after you purchase your sushi. This is literally an open fridge with sushi packaging. However! Like most reviews have mentioned, it is surprisingly fresh for sushi inside a grocery store. They have a lot of options as well. I loved that I was able to ask for extra ginger on the side. I wished they would have some hot miso soup! I was really craving some on the cold, rainy day but all they offer is instant miso soup in a cup. Its close to my office and I will definitely be back when I have a sushi craving.

Note that there is a difference between buying the pre-packaged sushi when the chef’s aren’t working and buying their freshly made sushi… BIG difference. Definitely want to come when the chef’s are working for the best experience.

So messy I couldn’t eat it! I live in South Pasadena. The sushi at the Ralph’s there is spectacular! I’m in Irvine on business and decide to get sushi from Ralph’s thinking it would be great. The sushi I’m used to is packaged in a sliced roll with the crunchy toppings on top of the roll. This place separates the pieces, lays them flat, then covers the whole thing in toppings. I couldn’t take a piece out without it falling apart. The rice was super sticky and got all under my nails. I only had a little bit of time to eat then get back to work cutting hair. I was only able to eat 2 pieces. I had to spend a good portion of that time washing my hands and scrubbing my nails. No bueno!

For the convenience and the price and not having to tip and sit down. I would say 5 stars! It’s pretty good

Seriously love this stand at Ralph’s. The owners are from Hawaii and are the nicest people ever! I love their rolls and they will even make special orders for you. I come here quite often as well as pick up a bottle of wine. Perfect evening!

Best grocery store sushi… Hands down. However, it IS grocery store sushi, so don’t expect restaurant quality. Not heavy handed rolls(like most grocery stores with 80−90% rice and little filler).

How does a big chain grocery store have such good, fresh sushi??? Sushi from Ralph’s has become a regular late-night snack for me, so I was glad to see they actually have a separate Unilocal page! This sushi is better than most sushi restaurants nearby in the Irvine area. Really. Honestly, when I crave sushi, I’m usually just craving RALPH’s sushi. They’re sold right by the door by the self-checkout — how much faster could this be? AND Ralph’s is open late(til 1AM), so it’s perfect for days I get off of work at midnight and just want to get home and eat. Instead of getting takeout sushi, I would recommend trying Ralph’s sushi next time!!!

Perfect amount of spicy; packed full of YUMMY! I happen to wander by the case as I was shopping and picked up a roll labeled«Hawaiian Roll». I knew Casey’s sushi was very fresh and delicious, but this was OMG amazing! I was actually looking at the poke, but wasn’t really in the mood to just eat poke by itself, so I picked this up instead. It was a roll that was topped with poke — the best of both worlds. The flavors blended perfectly! I am very picky about sushi and this was probably one of the most delicious rolls I have ever had. Really! Casey and his wife are always hard at work, making everything fresh every day. You can tell they take pride in their product as they are in early in the morning and leave late at night. Quality is very important to them. It’s a great value for the price! This is definitely not your average grocery store sushi. The scary thing is that I can easily get addicted to this!(And you thought the Starbuck’s habit was bad…) Thanks, Casey! Keep up the yumminess! You make my taste buds very very happy!

So i am a avid sushi lover! I understand the high price so i try to find the best deals as possible. Working in the area, i found this GEM! Sushi at Ralphs! Normally, chain grocery stores are not the place for sushi! however, this specialty is the spot for reasonably priced sushi! i take advantage of the poke! You get a great serving of poke served over seaweed salad and avocado for $ 10! perfect for a lunch! I have also had the eel and the caterpillar roll. both were outstanding! i have been here 6 times and have not once been disappointed!

The sushi is honestly not as amazing as reviewers say it is. This isn’t any better than other grocery store sushi I’ve had. I was really impressed that a search for sushi in Irvine revealed«Sushi at Ralphs», so I tried it out. I bought the Rainbow Roll, but it was really more of a pretty looking California Roll that didn’t have much flavor to offer at $ 10.50 for 10 rolls. Basically, if you’re hungry and can eat anything, this isn’t the worst choice to make but it’s not saying much. If you are craving decent sushi or Japanese food though, this isn’t the place to get it.

It’s totally odd, but the Unilocal reviews don’t lie. The sauce that Casey makes for his Tuna Poke is to die for. The fish is fresh, and where grocery store sushi usually leaves me wishing I’d eaten anything BUT that, Sushi At Ralphs excels. I know. Tough to believe. But throw that sauce on some rice and you’ll have garlicky, sesame-y, rice vinegar-y dreams for days. SOGOOD. I only wish Casey would give my mother-in-law(who lives nearby and picks up his sushi fairly regularly) the recipe for that delicious sauce.

So I read the review and was pleasantly surprised!!! I picked this roll up after hours because I was the to «of course pick up one item» yeah right!!! Well this caught my eyes, I’ll be honest… I was super apprehensive because«yes» it’s in a grocery store and I have had my fair share of grocery store sushi and it was not good by and stretch. If you are looking for some fresh and delish sushi, you will not be disappointed!!!

My guilty secret pleasure is to come pick up sushi at Ralph’s during my lunch break when I don’t have time for Japanese food. That’s our secret. Shh… It’s not bad at all. It’s actually better than some of the fake Japanese restaurants around here serving sushi. They have a little container of chopsticks at the top of the fridge so don’t forget to pick one up!

After reading all the positive Unilocal reviews, I went out to try some of this sushi. I had a chance to chat with the chef, Casey. Sushi at Ralph’s isn’t actually run by Ralph’s at all. It’s an independent franchise of Advanced Fresh Concepts Franchise Corp, and this particular franchise is owned and run by Casey and his wife. I got an order of all salmon nigiri. It was very good. I’ll certainly go back for more. One thing that would be an improvement is if they could provide a small plastic or styrofoam container to pour the soy sauce into. Currently, I had to pour it into the overturned lid, but the area is so wide, that I can’t get a pooling effect. Maybe if they just molded the current lid to have a bowl-like curvature in it, that would work and wouldn’t require any additional material.

Don’t let the name fool you– sushi at Ralph’s didn’t sound appealing to me but i was broke and willing to take a chance. Sushi chefs are there making fresh rolls, and are friendly to talk to if you have any questions. I tried the spicy tuna just to start and I was pleasantly surprised! Nice hearty cuts of tuna and it had a really good spice that is sometimes lacking from other run of the mill spicy tuna rolls. Good prices too. I’ll be back to try more rolls and such.

I needed a quick lunch and, with a sushi craving, was going to place an order to go at a bar. I am so glad I stopped here instead! Not only was I able to bag some Shrimp Flavored Chips, but I also got an order of salmona and tuna nigiri and a rainbow roll. That was enough food for two people! The portion sizes are ample, and the prices just right — less than $ 20 for the lot. And surprisingly fresh. Did not, and I repeat, did not taste like it came from a grocery story. All the while I was trying to make my selection, I noticed two sushi chefs diligently working. One chatted me up in the kindest way. I highly recommend stopping in, especially if you are looking for quick, easy to go sushi.
