Broadview has no concept of taking responsibility for their failures. The wireless sensor on one of the doors to our house became faulty and generated a false alarm which in turn caused the police to be called(that’s the conclusion of their technician who came and diagnosed the problem). Broadview was unable to contact my wife or I and so called the police and as a result are billing us $ 115.00 for a false alarm(we’ve never had any kind of false alarm before this, BTW). They refuse to take any responsibility for the event, despite that fact that it was entirely due to the failure of their equipment. Their«customer service» representative(and I use the term loosely) flatly refused to escalate the problem — they wouldn’t let me talk to anyone else(he said I could send them a letter) and repeatedly asked that we send them the money and pursue the dispute later. If it weren’t for the contract I foolishly signed with them(foolish because I believed their claims that they were good people) I’d walk right now. Note to anyone who is thinking of signing up with Broadview: Their contract says that the customer is reponsible for all false alarms — and that apparently includes those that are generated by Broadview itself. At least in principle Broadview could be generating extra revenue for itself by deliberately programming thier systems to generate false alarms. By signing a contract with them you’ve agreed to pay them for it.

Now a part of ADT, I just got a state-of-the-art home security system installed. The install team of James & Justin were unbeatable. From 7:30 am — 2:30 pm, these guys worked hard on a Saturday and put in a comprehensive system that covered every point of entry with various other backup internal devices. For the competitive price of $ 38/month, our home is now fully monitored and hooked up to the Police Dept as well. Though our neighborhood doesn’t see much crime, I enjoy the peace of mind of taking safety up to the next level.

Watch out when choosing an alarm company, or even complacently observing the buy-out of your former alarm company. Broadview, once Brinks, is a company that sucks every penny out of customers at the price of good business. I had Brinks for 7 years when Broadview took over. Since I have VoIP, the Brinks system was unable to send system updates. They had to come to the house and perform manual updates, which was time consuming and annoying. Also, the service was on par with what I saw other companies charging per month; I wasn’t saving anything with an outdated system. So after over 8 years I decided to get a nice wireless system installed and switch providers. When I signed w/Brinks I was under contract for 2 years(standard for these alarm companies). I could have cancelled the service with Brinks at any time after that. Not so with Broadview, since their contract renews every year, and if at any point you attempt to cancel they will exact the *remainder of the year* from you. Moral of the story: beware when you choose to cancel Broadview, as they require a year’s notice. I love that their letter stating that I must continue to pay until the«end of contract term» closes with: We are dedicated to your peace of mind.

Now known as «Broadview Security» the next generation of Brinks Security. This company is great, and I’d recommend it for your home and business. The customer service department is great. They’re always friendly, and quite knowlegable of their products and services. They’re monitoring station answers alarms within 30 seconds once they have received the alarm. From what I understand, they go through and extensive 6 week training course. They’ve also been rewarded the JD Powers and Associates award 6 years in a row, and might I say that they deserved. They’ve also been in business for 25 years! I believe you get what you pay for and, though they may not have as many gadgets as their competitors, they are very much ahead of the game. They are quality over quantity. I definitely recommend them.
