Food was good and good service. I wouldn’t say it was that great but definitely better than those Tex mex restaurants. If I was in the neighborhood would go again. Tortillas de maiz are home made.

Frequent local eatery often and usually a pleasant experience until today. Took my father as first time customer, food was brought out to table next to us and left there, was not served, had to serve ourselves. Coffee tasted as though it had be reheated and all around bad service. Wasn’t first visit, but might be last. Very unsatisfied. Unacceptable.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. Love: the food is authentic Mexican. I am Mexican and it reminds me of my family home cooked meals. The portions and price is perfect. The atmosphere is cool. Pretty relaxed for a family outting. Hate: the service is sloooooowwww… The waitresses are not rude but aren’t nice either. Every time I’ve gone(I go often) they take forever to bring the check and they don’t check on us much. And it’s never because they’re busy. They are always just bullshitting with each other. So to recap: I like the food and price so much, I put up with the crappy service.

Really good menu! The food in this place is authentic Latino food, coming from a Latino person this is saying a lot. However, businesses do not only rely on how good the product is. Customer service is one of the most important aspects of it. The waiter that served me here was acting careless and took her sweet time to bring our food. Never did she ask me if I wanted anything else, but I had to beg for her to even look at our table. At the end I was begging for the check so I could get out of there, but she wouldn’t bring it. This has not only happened once, but about three times already, otherwise I wouldn’t take the time to write this review.

On our way from point A to point B, El Comal showed up as a decent lunch stop. Their lunch specials were served fast and friendly, and our 3 year old gobbled up the kids taco plate. Fresh food, served quickly works for me!

I’ve came to this place a good 30 times now. I love the food, people and prices! To begin, I am inlove with their chips and salsa(the red one, they offer two). Personally, it’s the best I’ve had! I am Mexican, so I know authentic Mexican food when I see it. El Comal is exactly that. I always get their cheese enchiladas with chile con carne sauce. It’s super cheesy & the rice and beans are so flavorful! Their horchata is good as well. I’ve been coming here a little over 3 years now and I’ve never had a bad experience. The waitresses are nice. The establishment is not great, but it’s not horrible either. I really only come here for the food & it’s cheap prices! I am a college student so having a three course meal for under 20 bucks sounds good any day! I guess because I come here so often it gives a home-y feel to me, I even take the liberty to come grab a bite and study during weekdays. Weekend nights they offer hilarious drag queen shows!

My wife loves the cheese enchiladas. I love the beef enchiladas. Never had a problem with the food. But 1 time I did have a problem communicating with the waitress I was asking about a different kind of hot sauce. and all she kept saying was yes, yes. So I ended up dumping my chip hot sauce all over my enchiladas so I could have some hot sauce. But to be fair that don’t happen all the time there. Other than that one bad experience they really do have good food. I’ll keep going back.

Great lunch specials and consistently good food. I’ve been eating lunch here for nearly 20 years. Probably not the best mexican food in the area, but not bad. Fast and friendly service. I always ask for a side of chopped jalapenos and a bowl of their«hot» salsa(they will just bring you the regular salsa unless you ask). Its a very casual place with mexican videos playing on a large screen TV. Check it out if your in the area or on your way down Beltline to Lone Star Racetrack.

Average food at average prices. The staff is really nice. I went there late one night and they had live entertainment. It was fun.

Recommended by a Mexican friend. I think we were the only non-Mexicans there. I think that says something about authenticity! We really enjoyed it. Inexpensive and tasty. When asked they brought out some extra hot salsa. Staff is friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be back.

this place was ok. The salsa was like water &chips were was a cheap place to eat, They gave you alot of food but i would rather spent a little more to get something i enjoyed, the margaritas were good so i guess i shouldn’t complain because after two of them i didn’t care anyways.

Most of the food I have had here is pretty standard Tex-mex. It is obviously a favorite among the lunch hour crowd, and you can quickly get in and out to fill yourself up on all your standard Mexican fare. The Enchiladas are above average but pretty small, and you might need to order off the a la carte menu to get filled up. The rice is actually pretty great but again, I could have used a bit more. Wait Dan, why the 2 stars then since this is sounding like at least a 3 star review. Little wifey ordered her favorite, Tortilla soup, and I have to say it was one of the most vile looking things I have ever seen. It looked like green sewage water with boiled chicken. No cheese, tortilla strips, cilantro, or flavor. I thought little ninja turtles might crawl out of this primordial ooze. She took one bite and almost ralphed. Disgusting man, DONOT order this! You will probably be safer with something that does not involve liquids at this place.

A friend of a friend referred this restaurant in Irving. It is discreetly tucked in a strip mall next to a super mercado. I am not easy to impress with mexican fare but I gotta give props where they are deserved. Started out with chips and salsa. Good with just the right amount of kick to it… definately was not poured from a can. I ordered the picadillo enchiladas. I was expecting just ground beef thrown into a tortilla with sauce over it. What I got was authentically prepared picadillo with spices, ground beef, potatoes, chiles, and onions. YUM The side of rice was well prepared … light and fluffy. The refried beans were a disappointment… looked more lard/flour than actual beans. But, I overlooked this because the picadillo was fantastic. I would give El Comal 5 stars but I have to go back and see if the experience is duplicated. Overall, this place just may now be my fave mexican restaurant in the area… sorry, Herrera’s.
