The chips and queso were to die for! So sad they’re closed now. Everyone was so friendly, they knew me by name and even would take my to go orders to my job! I will miss everything on their menu especially the quick margarita drink we would grab after work. RIP Margarita Ranch

I enjoy this place. The fact that they have happy hour every day of the week definitely doesn’t hurt… So, there is never a bad day to go if you love food and drink deals as much as I do! I’ve only sat in the bar area. It is a nice atmosphere. The staff in this area has always been attentive in my experiences. The guacamole(small) is a good sized snack if you’re not looking for a full meal. If you are looking for a meal, try the chicken taco salad — very tasty! I’ve been here several times and haven’t been disappointed at all. I’m very picky about Mexican food, so I will have to try more menu items to go up additional stars…

My new go-to Mexican in Las Colinas! Last night was our first visit, after finding a Groupon. The atmosphere is nice, contemporary and subdued… Great for dates/girls’ nights(no kids menu btw). The service was professional, friendly and fast, and the food was fantastic. The seared tuna tacos were so fresh and were prepared perfectly(except that the thick avocado slices on top were a little much). And the brisket tacos were so tender and juicy with the best flavor. While I usually prefer more«chunky» salsas, theirs had a great smokey flavor. The only marg we tried was the skinny, and it was perfect… so refreshing and flavorful. Corzo and agave nectar – Not that awful«diet» mixture some places make with Splenda. The prices were typical for a place like this, around $ 10 for taco dishes, but we didn’t try any of the more expensive($ 15 – 20) platters or grilled plates, so I can’t comment on those. If you are a MiCo/Taco Diner reg, you definitely need to try this place!

Absolutely love this place. I eat here all the time. Great food and salsa! Margarita’s are good too. Sunday is all day happy hour, you just can’t beat it. I’m very picky about Mexican food, I don’t care for Mi Cocina’s at all. Way over priced and the food/salsa is not good. This place is so much better!

Delicious! The huevos rancheros are some of the best I’ve had, and the spinach tamale is good enough for a last meal. During brunch on weekends, they serve«Mexican Toast»(a play on French Toast with a sopapilla-like twist)… to die for.

Such a pitiful place. The food is subpar and the prices are outrageous for the potions. We [used] to eat here a lot for work functions. The first time I had bad food, I thought it was just due to it being a relatively new place. The third time, I felt like Einstein’s example of insanity. My specific problem. I paid $ 12.00 for 8 nachos. That’s a lot. To compound the ugly, the nachos were literally completely smashed. They had used the crumbs from the bottom of a bag, thrown some cheese and chicken on them, and ran them under a salamander. Unbelievable. To top it all off, I asked for a water refill three times before I just got up and did it myself. Never. Again.

This isn’t the easiest place to find, but it is worth the search. We were lead here by some great deals on Groupon. My fiancé and I are hooked on their fajitas! We get the chicken, beef and shrimp combo for one and it is more than enough for both of us to share. The happy hour specials are great. $ 5 margaritas, yes please! I’ve never seen it crowded, which means you can always get a table. The service has always been awesome as well! This is a great place to meet up with friends or have a great dinner with your date.

Get the cowboy tacos! Meat could use a little less cooking, but this is probably one of the better places in Las Colinas to go get some tex-mex. :)

This place was not packed at all during Sunday’s HH. The bartender was talking bad about his previous employments. We came here to have a drink and didn’t need to hear how bad his previous jobs where and how management was. Our margarita was just okay. The lime juice was very tart. They squeeze aqave nectar from a bottle. The queso was delicious here with their fresh chips. The fish tacos were good as well. I think we’ll just come here for a meal instead of drinks next time as the drinks weren’t that great.

Disclosure: I have visited two times as recent as July 2013. Margarita Ranch is a TexMex restaurant in Las Colinas. It’s relatively new that offers a wider variety of standard TexMex, including tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, and of course margaritas. Atmosphere — Although it is a TexMex restaurant, it feels anything but. The décor is very sparse, and if I didn’t know it was TexMex, it would have passed as anything. There is a good size bar area that was not crowded on both occasions. With nearby businesses, it seems like a good place for happy hour, but not necessarily one that has TexMex. No Stars. Service — On both occasions, the service was superb. Chips come with salsa for EACH patron, so double dipping is allowed. Drinks were always filled, to go boxes were packaged with extra salsa, and orders were customized without issue. 1 Star. Food — We ordered combo fajitas(beef, chicken, & shrimp wrapped in bacon), cheese enchiladas with pork tamale, and chimichanga. The fajita portions were very generous. However, the beef and chicken were a bit bland and dry. The shrimp had a nice grill/smoke flavor with the bacon adding the salt. Cheese enchiladas and tamale were both smothered in chili con carne sauce. This complimented the enchiladas well but over powered the tamale. The chimichanga was great. The seasoned beef was not too salty and the size was large. This was my favorite menu item. All plates came with rice(standard Mexican fare) and your choice of beans. The beans cooked with pork and bacon were great. Overall I liked the food, but the fajitas fell a bit short. 1 Star. Will I Return? — Yes. It doesn’t have a great atmosphere, but the service is superb and the food was a good value. This place is good for working lunches or a local TexMex joint I’d rather visit vs. a chain. 1 Star. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score. Overall Rating — 3 Stars(Service, Food, Return)

Noise. So much noise. Couldn’t hear my friends. Could barely read the menu over the noise. Why, oh why, do they think people like noisy restaurants? Food was good enough. I liked my salmon with cucumbers on the side. Rice was tasty too. And the sopapillas were great. Margaritas were very sweet and the salsa was very spicy but that’s the way I like it. The noise is the killer here. Too bad.

So I found a groupon for this place and we were looking for something good in the Las Colinas area. The interior is very nice but a bit loud with the music. There is pleasant seating outdoors as well. The place was pretty full with folks having a good time. The waiter was very good and service was great. The margaritas are very good $ 5 and the food was interesting. Its not your traditional far. The smoked ribs for $ 9.50 were quite good with a great sauce. The onion rings need some help. My wife got a combo plate and it was good. We ended up with a full box for dinner tonight as the helpings were good. Overall I liked it a lot and intend to be a regular. Got some great deals for all day Sunday happy hour to check out.

I was excited to see this, fairly new, spot open up right up the street from my house! Who doesn’t love easily accessible margaritas, right?! Well, a neighbor and I decide to check it out for dinner — Ghost Town! Just a few tables were taken. This was a bummer — but it was a little hidden, so maybe the word’s not out yet… or maybe the word IS out. I had a chicken dish that came with avocado, rice and beans and what not. Nothing really stood out to me as delicious — the chicken was way over cooked, kind of hard and not really juicy. I think they tried to cover that fact up with a bunch of sauce. They promoted avocado, like it was a side, but really it was a garnish. I was disappointed in my ‘cado portion and asked for more. I also had some kind of swirly frozen margarita — Now THAT was pretty good and I’d definitely be back for a drink or two, maybe some queso, but dinner? I think I’ll pass.

It had all the right elements, but it just didn’t come together. I went in for carry out and the service was great. I ordered the shrimp tacos(with pina pico and avocado) and the smoked chicken tacos(with coleslaw and bbq sauce). The shrimp was fresh and perfectly grilled but the pina pico was not particularly flavorful, so it, coupled with the avocado, added very little interest to the dish. It was tasty, but just kind of bland. The smoked chicken tacos were… weird. The chicken definitely had a smoky flavor and aroma. And initially, it was tender and delicious. But the more I ate of it, the more it started to taste TOO soft — almost mushy. The addition of the coleslaw added texture but no sweetness(which is what I’d expected). And the bbq sauce was actually a somewhat bland salsa. I had no desire to finish. I gave Margarita Ranch two stars because I think that they tried. And with the high quality ingredients they used(fresh avocado and pineapple, fresh, large shrimp, big pieces of chicken), they have the potential to be really great. They just aren’t there yet.

Have been to this new locations a couple of times now. Good atmosphere. Like the set up. Doesn’t seem real conducive to going to just for the bar. I liked the old one better for that. Went with a group of five from work. This place has been doing a pretty good business since they opened. It’s always nice to see a non chain restaurant in Irving! I love puffy tacos and they have them. A co-worker ordered shrimp and chicken fajitas. The shrimp looked good– cooked just right. Not dry and had lots of flavor. I had the grilled chicken salad and it was also tasty. Not plain like some tex mex restaurants. Last but not least — very good margaritas!

There are times when this DC transplant really craves TexMex. Not gussied up gourmet Mexican food, not cali-mex or baja-mex or fresh-mex. I’m talkin’ have-no-shame-yes-I-know-it’s-cheese-product-texmex. I realize you can throw a dead cat and hit one of these joints when you’re in the DFW area. But just because it can hold its own doesn’t mean we should take Margarita Ranch for granted. Clean, open, and friendly, this spot was what I hoped it would be. We went at a relatively off-time, I think like 2pm on a Sunday, so it was fairly empty when we arrived, but the servers were attentive. The smells from a grill wafted easily into the dining area, whetting the appetite. Prickly Pear Margarita – yum yum. Queso – white, processed, perfect. Salsa – just right. I ordered the Migualito(sour cream chicken enchilada, beef fajita taco, and guac), my bro ordered the El Capitan(beef enchilada, chicken enchilada, pork tamale, screamin taco) with an extra cheese enchilada, his wife ordered the puffy tacos. Our food took a little longer than we anticipated to get to us, but we didn’t really care because we were noshing on the endless salsa, chips, and a small bowl of queso that seemed surprisingly bottomless. When our orders came… my sister-in-law’s did not. The server was embarrassed and tried to correct the kitchen’s mistake but informed us they were out of the puffy tacos and let her order again; it was obvious this had been a surprise when he went to pick the food up from the kitchen. While he did an admirable job trying to recover, it was awkward because there were two hot plates and we were waiting for the third to be chosen, made, and delivered for us all to eat… I think she ended up going with the cowboy tacos. And it came out in short order, considering how long the original wait was. I liked my dish – it satisfied my TexMex itch. My bro definitely enjoyed his meal, and noted that the screamin taco was actually spicy – definitely a positive. My sis-in-law liked her order. The server comped at least one of our margaritas for the slip up, and was very attentive. We’ll certainly be back, and we were relieved to note it was newborn-baby friendly. Check out their happy hours and brunch specials – they looked like steals!

I’ve been here 3 times, mainly because I like tacos and they have lots of taco choices. First time: Smoked Chicken Tacos(3 Tacos) This was a little weird. They brought out 3 tacos with strips of smoked chicken inside of them. Coleslaw, rice, and beans on the side. They also brought BBQ sauce. Just imagine, tacos with chicken and BBQ sauce? It was weird, but not too bad. Gave this place a second try, because I figured I had chosen incorrectly… Second Time: Screamin Tacos(3 Tacos) These were Spiicccy. I was chugging water and eating the mint on the way out. Tasted great. Sides included rice and beans. Third Time: Cowboy Tacos(3 Tacos) I came back the third time for my brother to try the screamin’ taco, but I got the cowboy taco. My brother thought the tacos were not spicy, and when I took a bite out of his taco it was not spicy, so maybe it is hit or miss? The cowboy taco had fajita meat. They gave you cilantro, a slice of lime, and white onions to top it as you please. Sides also included rice and beans. I think this place can do more. The tacos are plain, and kind of pricey for how plain they are. In this market, this place needs«lunch» menu or lunch portions and dinner portions. I could eat here again when I don’t want to drive too much and want Mexican food.
