I shouldn’t even rate this place one star it has gone so far down the drain with that one waitress! I used to come here all the time with my mother because she loved it. Once I came around 8 and she told us she was no longer serving in the dining room when they close at 8 then another time we came at 4 when the dining room was supposed to open just to be told we needed to go eat in the pub AGAIN. And today I went in at 4:30 and she never came out of the back until this group of people came in and by then I WASFEDUP. Never going there again, this place is a joke that waitress is AWFUL.

On our way to Cleveland from Canada, we dropped in 2 hours before the 4pm opening schedule and we were welcomed right in by Cindy, who we learned was one of the owners. We got to order anything off the menu even though the kitchen wasn’t set up yet, but most of our 4 ordered the Friday special… Fish Fry(made with cod so it was moist and tender). The food was great, the beer was cold, great selection of beer, and the owner was so friendly and made us all miss small town hospitality. We invited her to call on us when she comes to our hometown, San Diego.

Is it an update or an edit? Because I wanted to make things very clear — I thought I should write an update so there is no confusion. First of all — I did NOT go to this place just once before I wrote my original review. A group of us use to go there for happy hour and though I never experienced a warm beer — I did experience — many times — cold reception from the bar tender and/or server, but that’s just on one side of this establishment. The other side I had NOT been to as often, but I had been there enough. Each time I went I wasn’t happy and with each visit it seemed to continue to go down hill until my last visit. This last visit is the one I had made when I wrote my review. I say this because I do not want anyone to get the wrong impression that I might have been hasty with my review. In my original review, when I stated that my steak smelled like garbage — I meant that literally. Regretfully I actually took a bite from that steak. I wanted it to be good, I tried my hardest to think it was good, but I could not get past the smell. I made my wife smell the piece of meat too — she agreed — I asked the waitress to smell it when she asked how things were and she agreed. I did mention that the waitress quickly offered to get me something else, but I didn’t continue with my review at that point — I will now. I ordered chicken fingers — thinking that they couldn’t mess this up too badly. They did! They were so over cooked and dried out I could barely eat them as well. However, I suppose overcooking is better then under-cooking — I just wonder what they were trying to cook out of these things. I also neglected to state that my wife’s simple salad had rotten leaves of lettuce included. She ate around them until we just gave up and stopped eating. We asked for our bill — paid — left — vowing never to go back. This is a mom and pop place — a local place — trying to make a living in a small community. I do NOT like nor enjoy writing a review like this, but I am being 100% honest — blunt perhaps, but honest. Unilocal has made it very easy for an owner of an establishment to make comments, but this owner has never attempted to do so — another reason why I’d never go back. I realize that it isn’t easy — the restaurant business — but you just cannot continue to serve food in this manner and expect people to return. I hope that they somehow figure it out as I’d hate to see another empty building in our small community. Instead of getting angry at a patrons review — an owner might want to take it up with his kitchen staff and determine what the root cause of bad food is.

Recently my elderly parents sat down for the traditional Friday night fish fry. I’m not sure how it came to be that traditional should mean the same old beer battered cod, but I’m damn glad Premo’s doesn’t conform to that standard. They offer varieties of fish in a variety of ways, and you can have the sides you want, instead of the sides you get stuck with. Where else can we get pan fried perch and broiled pike? Sure beer battered cod is still a good choice, but the broiled haddock with buttery herbs was rich flaky perfection even after the trip home in a takeout container.
