A friend has a lavender farm in Kilmarnack, and we go down there about twice a year to heal and chill and harvest and kayak and eat and generally make merry. This friend currently has a «summer distraction» in the form of Steve Keith, a singer who happened to be performing at Christ Church on Saturday. We hopped in the pick up for the short ride over to Irvington, where I saw the cutest little church I ever did see. It’s shaped like a cross, the inside is gorgeous, albiet small, with cool stone interiors, impressively arched ceilings and dark wood, sectioned-off pews that whispered«VIP.» There were four round windows in each of the doorway walls(ends of the cross) that let the sun shine in. Staff, dressed in period garb, wandered around eager to tell you the history and give you a tour of the place. Peggy and Betsy, you’re both delightful! There is an impressive museum filled with history, artifacts, videos and, of course, a gift shop. In addition, there is a barn-like building that houses a musical petting zoo(not as quite as awesome as it first sounds) that consists of oodles of different instruments, from African drums to lap dulcimers – that young and older folk alike can pick up and fiddle with. The concert was set under a tent, past the graveyard and on the lush lawn of the church, right outside the gate. Minus one star for the uptight bible beater who frowned upon us for *gasp* drinking wine.
