This was my very first yoga experience and yes, I’m a fan. I looked on their website and saw that Yoga on 3rd offers several different classes and I chose the Mellow Flow class, based on a friend’s suggestion, who has been here before. You are supposed to sign up online in advance, which really consists of giving them your name and email address. You can also choose to pay online or at the center before class. If you pay online, you can pay for the class or purchase 5 sessions, 10 sessions, 1 month unlimited, etc. They also have classes designed for kids and pregnant women. Also, first class is $ 5, which I was excited about! Other than my friend and I, there were two other ladies in the class. Our instructor, Madison, was very nice and I felt that I got my money’s worth. Being that the instructor is a teenager and, quite literally, half my age, we were doing a lot of strength and balance exercises. It was not the relaxing, passive, meditative idea that I was expecting out of yoga. As I said, I felt that I did indeed get my money’s worth — the class was a mix of some light meditation and an intense workout of strength training and challenging poses(I was sweating a lot). My only complaint would be that I did mention twice that this was my first class. Since it was a small group and I was unfamiliar with most of the poses, I would have appreciated a little more one on one time or some further explanation of the poses. Luckily, many of the poses were easy for me to pick up and repetitive. So, the ones I didn’t pick up right away, I had time to learn. After the class was over, my friend mentioned she has knee problems and the instructor stated that she can always tell her if something’s hurting or if a pose feels uncomfortable. Also there’s props(blocks, pillows, etc.) to assist with poses, if necessary. This would have been nice to know prior to the class, not after. Oh well, at least we know for next time! Overall, a good experience. Highly recommended and I would go again. I would suggest to anyone that’s interested to go online and see what classes /instructor suits what you are looking for. There is a list of classes and a description on each, as well as a bio of each instructor.
