I went stand up paddleboarding with friends when I first moved to the area. It was my first time doing SUP and it was a nice way to see some sights in Pittsburgh such as Point State Park and Mt. Washington. I was a little upset at first because I was nervous at the beginning seeing as I get a little nauseous and I wasn’t confident in my core strength. And within the first five minutes a boat went by and threw our guide into the water! After about 5 minutes of screaming I calmed down and got into the groove of it. We had a nice relaxing tour on the Mon River and took a great picture in front of Point State Park. Next time I think I’ll try yoga on the paddleboard.

I was unimpressed. The 2 hour«class» consisted of 2 minutes of very basic and kind of a «duh» explanation(this is how you hold the paddle. You start on your knees and then stand up when you feel comfortable) and the rest was a very slow paddle upriver, a little break and with the river stream return to the dock. Massively overpriced. Last year it was $ 30, this year its $ 43 per person. It wasn’t a horrible way to spend the afternoon but I won’t be back.

I’ve been coming to Northeast Paddleboard Company every year since they have been open, and i have nothing but good to say! Sandy(the owner) has some of the best boards on the east coast. The prices are phenomenal considering a day out at some places could cost a lot more! I have friends who have had parties at the Paddleboard shop and have loved it because it is something new, fun, and exciting in Pittsburgh. I believe it will be a staple in the community for years to come!
