Wonderful little unassuming place hidden amongst boutiques. Soup and sandwiches are there forte… But that assures room for their decadent dessert menu

I don’t live in Jackson, but I hear a lot of great things about the restaurants! For example Dumplin’s. My friend and I went for dinner and we LOVED! it! The food was good and the service was great!!! The atmosphere was so quaint and unique. Too bad I’m a poor college student, hopefully I’ll be returning as often as possible.

I wanted to like this place but honestly the food was just ok. I had a baked pork chop and it had the texture of a braised chop. It literally fell off the bone with a touch of my fork. The plus was the rolls and the strawberry butter. I also had a slice of cake that was really good. My sides were a potato casserole that was good but a little salty and generic green beans. I may try them again but I was not impressed overal.

We’re in town for a few days and trying to avoid chain restaurants and fast food. I thought Dumplin’s might be a good choice, because it is locally owned. The girl who greeted us seemed frazzled as she seated us. We were right beside the kitchen door in a crowded, busy area. The tables had white tablecloths topped with stained, frayed burlap placemats, topped with glass. For more than 5 minutes, we waited to be greeted by a server, and then it took several more minutes to get our drinks. The restaurant was busy, and our waiter seemed inexperienced and flustered. My son said the rolls were delicious. He enjoyed the chili, which he said was spicy. He also had the chicken and dumplings and said they were pretty good, but there were no vegetables in the dish. I asked the waiter if the broccoli soup was vegetarian, and he assured me it was. After I started eating the soup, I realized it was chicken and rice. It took some time to flag him down. He apologized and brushed off his mistake, not seeming to care that he had served chicken soup when I had specifically asked for something vegetarian. A woman brought the broccoli soup a few minutes later. It was mostly cheese sauce, with very little broccoli. I also had the strawberry & goat cheese salad, which was pretty good. The goat cheese ball was rolled in sweetened coconut. If you like sweet, southern food without a lot of nutritional value, this is a great place. If you’re looking for a healthful meal with excellent service, keep looking.

I’ll never go back. We went there add s family for my mother’s Birthday. The ‘Chicken and dressing’ was recommended by the wait staff. When our food arrived, all of the portions looked as if they had been ‘scooped’(like a small ice cream scoop) and plopped on a plate that dwarfed the food. The chicken and dressing was the main ‘entre’ — but there was NOCHICKEN! Ugh. So, I’ll never be back. I have a choice where I spend my hard earned money.

My wife and I ate at Dumplin’s in Jackson this week for the first time in a very long time — and we quickly remembered ‘the negatives’ that had kept us away! First of all, the floor was absolutely filthy — food and scraps of paper everywhere. The service, which once was good in this café, was pretty bad. While we were waiting to be served, our waitress was setting the table next to us. She dropped a set of napkin-wrapped silverware in the floor — in one of the dirtiest areas — and just picked it up and placed it on top of the bread plates she had set on the table! Yes, the silverware had been protected, but the napkin that the next diner would use had rolled across that nasty floor! Oh, yes — the tablecloth on our table had food and lipstick stains on it. Yes, there is glass on top of the table cloth, but it is pretty unappetizing to look down and see such stains next to your hands and napkin. The rolls, which once were a very strong point here, were stale and had very little taste. As always, the food seemed to have come right out of a microwave. AND — the little fresh flowers that once graced the tables have been replaced by cheap artificial flowers. Dumplin’s has changed ownership a couple of times over recent years, and it seems to deteriorate a bit more with each change. Quite a number of good places to eat are located in Jackson — and we do not plan to return to Dumplin’s any time soon — if ever!!!

Easy location. I had the chicken and dumplings and it came with a salad. It was very good. My husband had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and cabbage. Mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes and cabbage was cooked to death. The meatloaf was good. The service was great. Prices were reasonable. Cute décor.

Good food and super fast service. We are taking the desserts to go but they look amazing. Definitely a great stop in Jackson.

If in need of desert, this is definitely the place too stop by if in Jackson. The cakes are scrumptious and we’ve pretty much have tried them all. The food to me wasn’t any different from a typical café, nothing to write home about.

Ordered delivery while staying in a Jackson hotel. Delivery came within 40 minutes. I had the eggplant parmesan. It came with a small salad and a roll with strawberry honey butter. The salad was fresh and good as was the roll and strawberry honey butter. The eggplant parmesan was greasy and salty. My husband had the chicken bacon wrap. For dessert we ordered a piece if strawberry cake and an apple dumplin. Surprisingly the apples were hard. Overall we wouldn’t order again. The total was $ 60.

Wonderful lunch spot. Make sure you leave room for dessert! Apple Carmel upside down pie… Need I say more! They have a daily casserole selection which I’ve always found is great.

Dumplin’s is a timeless restaurant. It was amazing growing up and still is today. Everything on the menu is delicious. Don’t even get me started on their sweet treats– yum! Their fruit tea is great too. Their famous for their rolls with strawberry butter. The back room is perfect for any occasion with a big group. This place is also perfect for a lunch date or a meal with the girls.

Dumplin’s of Jackson is a hidden gem located on Highland next to Sister’s and Taylor’s Jewelry. I always try to go on Tuesday or Sunday because they serve Chicken and Dressing as their special. They generally have a casserole special everyday along with a quiche special. I’ve never been disappointed with any of their specials. Oh, and be sure to try the fruit tea! I’ve also ordered the soup and salad, which is a great lunch meal. If you’re needing a cake for a special occasion, their strawberry cake is delicious. They do great decorations, too! The service is always speedy and friendly. P. S.- if you’re needing a space for a bridesmaid’s luncheon, shower, etc., the back room is perfect!

My first time at Dumplins and I thought the food was excellent. Rolls are wonderful and the desserts are decadent. Our table had the coconut pie, strawberry pie, and chocolate cake and each bite was heaven. Service was also fast and friendly. Wished I lived in Tennessee so that I could frequent this quiet little gem but be sure I will visit every time I get close.

Not so great. Service was fast and the rolls were delicious. However, the rest of the food was fairly mediocre. We had a sandwich(not great) and the casserole special of the day(very unmemorable). The piece of hummingbird cake that we were served was huge was I think it was made the day before, and it tasted just a bit stale. We won’t return.

H.R.H. Dumplins is a quaint restaurant with an excellent dessert selection. The food is just as fresh as other establishments, and the food is just as good if not better. I wish the location and hours were more convenient, but it is nice to be «out of the way». When considering this restaurant, one caveat is to remember the reviews of others can often be shallow – try it and decide for yourself.

Charming little restaurant in Jackson. I grew up in Jackson, eating here occasionally. The most memorable item served is the ROLLS with their house strawberry butter!!! The desserts are divine. Years after I moved away, I had my engagement party here for my family and hometown friends. Great place for an intimate event(no alcohol served here though). And a great bakery for ordering a beautiful cake that is also tasty!

This five stars might just be because I miss Dumplins so much, not having lived in Jackson for like four years now. Who knows. What I do know is that I still think about the GIANT, puffy rolls with strawberry butter, the chicken and rice soup that is the standard by which I measure all other chicken and rice soup, and the chicken tetrazzini. Are there any places around here that offer a soup of the day AND a casserole of the day? Am I wrong or is there no good place to get casserole in Memphis? Sometimes you NEED casserole, right? The desserts at Dumplins are also fantastic and enormous. It is a girly restaurant though. Any heterosexual boys that you bring here will probably require a post-dinner Taco Bell run.
