First things first, I’m an avid reader and a lover of books. I probably go through 2 – 3 books a week on a good week! It can end up being an expensive habit so I try and get most of my books from the library, but whenever I want to own a book or find a new release or something rare, I *always* turn to Lemuria. Lemuria truly is Jackson’s bookstore. Located in the lovely and light-filled Banner Hall off I-55, Lemuria is a quaint and friendly haven for bibliophiles like myself. Is anyone immune to the charms of a bookstore? Probably not. Lemuria is separated into several different rooms, with the books separated by genre. There’s a kids section, a historical nonfiction, self-help, art, poetry, travel, etc. You name it— they’ve got it. I’ve rarely not been able to find the book I’ve been able to find the book I’m looking for but if that’s the case, just talk to a staff member and they can likely order it for you or help you find it! The staff here is incredible. They’re knowledgable but not snobby. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help you out or just chat about lit. It’s so refreshing! Lemuria also very often hosts literary events, from book signings to readings. Tons of fantastic authors come through Jackson all the time, and THIS is where they stop. Be sure to keep up with Lemuria’s social calendar so you don’t miss any great events. My suggestion for a really, really great afternoon? Head to Broadstreet Bakery, located just below Lemuria, and grab a delicious coffee before heading upstairs to peruse the shelves for an hour or two. You’re destined to find a new favorite read. Enjoy!

A must visit if you are in Jackson. I am a self proclaimed book junkie and I’m always thrilled to find an independent bookstore. Lemuria is the best in Jackson, if not the entire state of Mississippi. From floor to ceiling, they are packed with books. I promise if you go, you’ll find something. If I could live in this store, I would.
