I have very mixed emotions about this place. First the staff is very friendly but that’s about it. Good Bbq is ruined by the simple fact that they serve it barely above lukewarm temps. It’s practically cold when they serve it up. And don’t even get me started on the BBQ sauce station. They had the heat turned up so high that my uncle got severely burned and because he dropped the cup of sauce(because it was so hot) he ended up burning his stomach and hands. They admitted fault and gave a simple«we are sorry». They are lucky that we aren’t lawsuit hungry driven people. That’s why I think it’s ridiculous that their sauce is so hot yet their food is served practically cold. The only saving grace to this place is the neat little fact that they have free ice cream.

I’m a fan. I got a Picnic Pack and it was enough to be divided into 4 portions for me. Except the Fried Okra. I finished it in like 5 minutes. Their Fried Okra is everything. The BBQ beans isn’t your typical sweet baked beans, but still pretty good. The chopped brisket is pretty dry and I can’t make out it’s supposed smoked flavor. That said, you could easily fix it with a BBQ sauce. The rolls are soaked in oil I don’t know why or how. Overall, I would visit again and give it another chance if it wasn’t out of the way.

I hate to knock a small business or franchise owner down, but based on my most recent experience at this Dicky’s location. Whoever runs this location does not care about the customer experience. After a busy day and night my son guilted me into going to Dicky’s because they have the free ice cream machine(and it was at least on the way home). The good news is that it is one of few items that was actually available the night we went. The bad news, the ice cream has to have some of the highest water content and lowest cream contents of any soft-serve anywhere. I knew that the restaurant closed at 9PM so I made it a point to get there at a reasonable time, hopefully before the«outs» set in. After all, this is a BBQ place, for them to run out of something is not unusual or unexpected, but Dickey’s took it to a new low. At about 8:20PM(they close at 9PM) we walked into a shivering cold and smoked filled dining area with a total of two employees working. There were a few, maybe one table, customers around and a family ordering. After too many minutes the gentleman taking orders took our order. We could not order what we wanted, but basically, what they had left for the evening. They were out of pork, ribs, chicken, sausage which left the turkey and brisket. They were also out of their normal sandwich buns and were using some cheap grocery store buns. I went with the Westerner. After waiting for almost 15 minutes, it was made incorrectly, with both the wrong condiments and wrong cut on the brisket. It was chopped instead of sliced so the beef basically just fell out of the bun, had cheese and onion and pickle, though it was ordered«meat and bread» only. Not that it was the end of the world, but it would have been nice to have one thing correct. The most special condiment I received was discovered when I could not chew through what I though may have been a piece of cartilage or fat. When I removed the unchewable from my mouth, I discovered it was Saran wrap! On to the sides, out of the dozen or so sides on the menu, there were about three(not an exaggeration) available. Of those, I went with the waffle fries, which based on my past experiences have been quite good. NOT the case this evening, they were seriously overcooked. Close to pulverized I think I ate three fries out of the three bags of fries when I called it quits. Additionally, my son wanted root beer, it was out. I wanted sweet tea, none to be found. The sauce bar. It was completely out, but we were able to secure some sauce from behind the counter. In all honesty, it was comical how bad everything was. I suspected we may have been on boiling point. The only redeeming, and that is a stretch, was that the slow, flustered and confused staff stayed pleasant and amicable throughout the situation. I did not push back about the quality of the food or experience as clearly, they were not the management, they could not positively impact the situation and they were struggling to keep their heads above the water. Dickey’s BBQ is usually decent, a bit overpriced, but usually consistent. If this had been my first and only experience with Dickey’s BBQ I would NEVER go back. With all the other BBQ available in the area, I cannot recommend picking this Dickey’s BBQ over even a Sonny’s.

I’ve been the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in State College, PA many times. I was thrilled to find one here in Jacksonville. Since I was familiar with the setup the staff didn’t explain anything, but were very friendly and seemed to work great as a team. For those unfamiliar, it is the basic ‘place your order and pay at the counter’ system. The pulled pork meat plate has always been delicious for me, which is why I always order it. This location didn’t fail to impress with my favorite dish. We got our order to-go and loaded up on barbecue sauce from the condiment table. I also especially enjoy the dill potato salad, along with most of the other sides. Why don’t more places have a soft serve ice cream machine in the dinning room?

I always read about people creating their first Unilocal account. well this is mine. I have eaten here five time before and it was awesome(as long as you avoid the pure garbage sides) and just stick to the meats. But this time it was the worst thing Ive eaten since I stopped eating McDonalds. The buns were way under cooked and I had to dissect the pulled pork and brisket to remove the disgusting amount of fat. I pulled the sack out of the trash and posted a video on here after I decided to create a Unilocal account and not let this slide. There are 10’s of thousands of food options for people to make in Jacksonville, do yourself a favor and fast for a meal instead of eating here and give the money to a homeless bum or something more productive.

My fiancé took me here for my birthday. It is a bit pricey for the amount of food they give you, but it does taste pretty good. This is a «quality over quantity» reviewology(yeah I made that word up lol). The restaurant décor gives it a very southern atmosphere and it’s great to see the history of how the business was brought up. You simply order off the menu up front, they prepare it, pay and then you seat. There was a few people there for the dinner time and so far, it was one employee working so she was gathering orders, preparing our meals, and taking orders at the same time. I had the 3 meats combo and there wasn’t much meat to choose from that I like as I don’t like pork. They ran out of Beef that day but it’s okay. I ordered 2 chickens and 1 turkey, plus BBQ beans and fried onion rings. My fiancé had the Rib Plate with green beans and waffle fries. I believe the drinks come in 1 size which is the big yellow cup. They have their very own BBQ sauce and the usual condiments like ketchup, mayo, sweet BBQ, and hot BBQ. My chicken and turkey meat was good and tender. It looked so little, but the taste was good and I was also getting full fast. The BBQ beans I didn’t like so much and I believe it’s because I’m used to sweet BBQ beans, maybe? It just tasted different than I normally get. The fried onions were pretty good. The green beans are pretty good as well along with the waffle fries. My fiancé wanted me to try a small piece of the rib because he stated it was very good and that I may like. Even though I don’t like pork, I’m willing to taste it and try it. I bit into it and yeah not much luck. Didn’t taste good to me. I couldn’t finish my meal so my fiancé helped with the meats and I helped with the side items. The best part is the ice cream. Unlimited amounts of ice cream! Vanilla only but it sure was good. Be careful with the lever because I think you need to pull all the way up and lower it down for it to come out. My fiancé did it fast so I got a semi tall cone lol. The ice cram was good however I think we got it while it was still churning or finishing mixing. Our ice creams didn’t melt, it just froze in place and you had to constantly lick and bite the ice cream because it was frozen. Took forever to finish, but it was still yummy. Semi sweet is good enough for me.

We have eaten at Dickies a couple of times and we have been satisfied with their food. Yes, their menu could include something like cornbread, but otherwise the food was good and the service was very fast. We will return.

Horrible take on BBQ I like Sonny’s but I wanted to try somewhere different because Sonny’s doesn’t have corn bread which i think is abomination to BBQ in the South but neither did this place nor did they have corn nuggets regardless I still gave them a chance there sweet tea is the best thing that they have other than that I had a pulled pork sandwich it was dry flavorless just unappetizing I took about three bites and ended up throwing it out my son got chicken and only really ate the fries I try to make him eat some of the chicken I tried it myself disgusting the seasoning is overpowering its very salty not very tasteful at all will not be wasting my money at this crappy BBQ food chain on a positive note the staff was very nice and friendly but the food Ewwww.

The smell of BBQ brought us in. Place was clean, lady was very nice and recognized that this was our first visit, which prompted pleasant conversation. The food was hot and tasty. I got the sandwich and two sides. Coleslaw was tangy and tasted fresh. Fries were hot, just like I like! The only reason I gave 4⁄5 Stars was because the bbq was just average. I’ll definitely be back.

Don’t sleep on Dickey’s Bbq! Very pleasantly surprised, stopped in after work, starving, and we were helped by a very nice girl at the counter. I got the special for the day bbq pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides and a drink for $ 8.99 Hubby got the turkey dinner with 2 sides $ 10(?) Man everything was good! It all tasted«homemade»… Made with love! Lol Pulled pork was different being it was not drenched in bbq sauce just smoked pulled pork, it was tender and flavorful and I liked I could determine how much bbq sauce I wanted on it. Turkey was super moist and tasted great… turkey can be kinda boring but when you dip it into their bbq sauce… fireworks! My husband said this was his favorite bbq sauce of any bbq place. The sides were good… we got baked potato casserole, coleslaw, baked beans… we were happy with all of it… I thought their would be leftovers to take home but nope no leftovers ate it all, so yummy! Go try it!

Disgusting restaurant, dirty, unsanitary. Tables, chairs, floor and even the windows were dirty. Nothing was fresh. No plates and plastic utensils. Bbq sauce station was a mess with dried sauce spilled around cans and on wall. Kitchen area was closed. No idea where they cooked their meat. Microwaved their macaroni. I’m surprised that it’s in business especially with a Bono’s practically across the street. Only positive was that the employee’s(only 2) were nice.

I really love the chicken at Dickey’s BBQ! And the rolls are really yummy as well. I have had a few hiccups in service over the past but they have always tried really hard to remedy the problem. It is not my favorite BBQ in town but definitely up there in my book!

I will start by saying my previous visits to Dickeys BBQ have all been pleasant but not last night !!! 1st they close at 9pm went in about 8:15. The BBQ sauce bar was closed down, ladles taken out so no BBQ Sauce! The Ice cream machine was broken down for cleaning so No Ice Cream … To me this should be done after closing… Not 8:15 so you can walk out at 9pm !!! Then was gonna order BBQ chicken, young lady advised our chicken is only boneless, skinless breast!!! Who doesn’t serve dark meat bone in chicken at a BBQ joint !!! Lastly wife got the pulled pork stuffed baked potato!!! Woke up in the middle of the night very sick !!! Don’t know if it was food poisoning or not but strange after she eating here… She never gets sick !!! Will be quite sometime if we ever visit here again … This experience was not pleasurable at all !!!

Went there for lunch and ordered the Pork and Tangler Baker which I do think was bigger than my head. It was loaded with cheese, bacon(I asked for it, so don’t know if it comes with it.) pork, sour cream and little fried onion rings. I also asked for like a small side of mac and cheese, telling the guy that I didn’t really want much of it and he gave me this sample size of it for free which was really nice of them. Both things were really good, I had to take most of the potato home because I could not eat it all, please note that I would what some would say a light eater. I also really like the super crushed ice for the drinks. Will go again because they have this salad I want to try.

I am definitely a fan of Dickey’s. On the few times I’ve been there I’ve always had great experiences. The people who work their are nice. You get your food quickly and yet it’s FRESH. I have taken to ordering whatever the special is for whatever day I’m there b/c I think it’s the best deal… You get whatever meat they are offering plus 2 sides, a roll and a drink for $ 8.99. Also they have free soft serve cones for dessert afterwards.

We were both super excited when we found out Dickey’s was coming to Jacksonville. sadly it’s not quite as good as the Mississippi restaurant. The food itself is just okay… The sides, which are absolutely yummy at the MS location are just okay… I really hope the sides improve over time, because it’s hard to find a good BBQ joint! The service was good; everyone was friendly and smiling. We will give this another try in the future.

Hubby and I were first introduced to Dickey’s in Flowood, MS which is where a lot of my family lives. We’ve been to that one many times and I gave it 5 stars. When I learned there was one opening here in Jax, I was hella excited! But… I just can’t make myself love the one here. If I didn’t have the one in MS to compare it to, I’d probably give it 4 stars, but it just doesn’t live up to the other one, so only 3 stars from me. I always order the brisket and it’s very, very good. The brisket is some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s very tender. I also love, love, love the sweet sauce. I’m a big fan of sweet bbq sauce and a lot of bbq places don’t offer it. So that is definitely a plus. It’s really the sides I have a problem with here. At the Dickey’s in MS, the mac & cheese and the potato salad is to positively die for! At this Dickey’s, they are just ok… nothing special. Since it is a chain, you’d think the sides would all be the same, but no, they are not. I’ve also had consistency issues with the rolls here. Sometimes they are hot, soft, and yummy. Other times they are cold and kinda hard. The restaurant is very clean. The area where they carve the meat is kept clean and I like the fact you can watch them getting your food ready. The owner and employees are very nice. And bonus… they have a free ice cream machine so you can finish your meal off with a nice little treat. Tip: Sign up for their emails to get some nice coupons!

Jacksonville is full of BBQ restaurants and I’m a little picky when it comes up BBQ. Having said that, Dickeys is one of the best in the city. I know it’s a chain but forget that and enjoy your meal. This place is nothing fancy, you order at the counter and pick up your food at the counter as well. They offer a larger variety of sides than most BBQ places, including things like jalapeño beans and fried okra at no extra cost. The pulled pork is very tasty, tender, and not fatty. The BBQ beans have a smoky flavor which is very enjoyable and the fried okra is hot, fresh, and not greasy or old from sitting in heat lamps. They made it fresh and brought it to my table when it was done. They have three BBQ sauces: regular, sweet, and spicy. All are tomato based with a good flavor and I enjoyed combination of the regular and spicy sauces. They should add a mustard sauce but the ones they do have are all first rate. Also, the sweet tea is real(no Nestea) and the perfect companion to their BBQ meal. They give you giant yellow travel cups so be sure and get some tea to go. My niece even enjoys stacking the cups and building towers Jenga style. After you’ve stuffed yourself with a giant BBQ meal you can enjoy free ice cream from their machine for dessert. I’ll be back here next time I’m in town and want to check out their location near DC next.

I think Dickey’s is gonna surprise you. I had dreams about their BBQ sauce. We’ve been in a few times now and I can tell you… the chopped brisket is amazing! Any meat you order will be prepped right in front of you… so they carefully take out the brisket, chop it all together, with the juicy fat bits… MMMMM… and what you get is a juicy flavorful delicious pile of meat! It does take a little while to get through the line, since they are serving up individual orders, but wait for it, cause it’s worth it. When ordering sides, remember that some of the items are featured«Texas Style», so if you are used to your momma’s potato salad, and you might be disappointed. But try something new! I will say, the dill version is not my favorite, it was still good and made well. Fried okra is just that as well… nothing too exciting, but good fried goodness. And the sauce… OMG the sauce. I mixed the regular and the sweet together… it has just enough sweetness and heat that pairs perfectly with that mouthwatering brisket. The second trip, I made sure to buy a bottle of it to have at home… it was that great! So, yes, it’s a franchise, it’s in a strip mall, but haven’t we all learned that lesson, don’t judge a book yet? The owner is a super sweet guy and puts a lot of love into this place. :) So check it out for yourself!
