New to NC and this was my first time in Port City Java. I’ve had their coffee before and always like it. But maybe today was an off day. I ordered an ice coffee and egg, cheese and sausage wrap. I was asked if I wanted cream and sugar and replied yes. Coffee came out as a hot coffee, not a big deal tho. I waited for it to cool before tasting it, that didn’t help. It was so hot I burnt my tongue, so after 10 minutes or so I tried it again. Still hot but manageable. Then I noticed no cream or sugar. Lastly, the breakfast wrap didn’t have sausage in it. Two stars only because it’s a nice place to relax inside.

First time coming here but I enjoyed it. I’m not a Starbucks fan so when I found this place on Unilocal I was happy. Free wifi, comfortable environment, outdoor seating, and a decent view of the river. I’m just in town visiting but I’d come here again.

Dig this place for working on the computer when my daughter is in her dance class. Quiet with free internet. The coffee is above par but not the best that i have had. Their pastries are fresh. The staff are nice.

Got a quite decent espresso drink here on a trip back from the beach – in what some might call an espresso-desert. Staff was a tad less than friendly, but my bacon, egg, and cheese english muffin sandwich hit the spot(even though it was obviously a nuked and somewhat soggy affair, as another reviewer has pointed out). I also forgave the whip cream I requested they hold on my mocha because it was a well-balanced drink and it did the job of pleasantly waking me up for the drive home. A step up from Starbucks, and somewhat local. Would swing by again.

Nothing spectacular but microwaved breakfast sandwiches and poorly made coffee. The staff was friendly but the menu was all over the place which made it hard to decide. It felt more like a fast food joint than a coffee shop.

A great alternative to the overly crowded starbucks in town. Free refills on coffees too… no gold card needed! ;) My new go to!

The customer service we received was Great! Everyone in our party of 5 were happy with their coffees and fraps as well as muffins & cinnamon buns. Would absolutely go again! Would have liked to sit & enjoy our stuff there because it looks cozy & inviting, but we were just passing through :-(

Loved everything! Coffee was perfect and I spent my entire afternoon working on my laptop in the booth because the music was wonderful! Nice, relaxing atmosphere.

I wish I hadn’t of spent so much money at this place, they have good coffee but the customer service is crap. I have been going here for a year now, I order the same thing, they get it wrong almost every time and then they turned downright rude. I could understand if I had some crazy over the top order but seriously it’s a simple ice coffee with flavor and whipped cream. They get upset every time I send my order back because they got my order wrong. Maybe they should have a better ordering process to avoid mistakes since they can’t remember the same order I place daily. It’s not hard. So I will no longer be spending money there.

This place is great! Awesome customer service, ambiance and food. Their iced coffee isn’t great at this location(hampstead one has THE best for some reason) but everything else is great!

This is my second stop at Port City Java, the first was in Wilmington, my favorite drink so far is the Green Wave. It is so good and refreshing, everyone has always been friendly and very helpful in answering any questions I have regarding what is in the drink.

I really like PCJ and have been frequenting them for years in Wilmington… So needless to say, I was super excited to have one pop up here in Jacksonville! But this store just hasn’t been the same. They can’t get their drinks right, the food tastes microwaved and old & the service is really hit or miss… Actually, mostly miss. I also find the location of this store to be kind of out of the way. A location on Western Blvd would have been awesome… Maybe near Target or the newer developments. Hopefully we can see something like that in the future.

This place is a cute local joint that serves good coffee! I was able to get some homework done on the free wifi and the air conditioning made for a pleasant working environment. The staff were friendly and attentive. I enjoyed my Caramel hot drink after kicking my day off with this great start at Port Java

The roast beef supreme sandwich is very good and very flavorful, with a side of plain kettle potato chips and a Naked strawberry and banana.

Coffee: taste-wise was okay. I got the house blend. The issue was it wasn’t hot, just warm. Food: I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon. Just touching it you know it’s microwaved. The English muffin was hot but not toasted and very soggy. The inside of the sandwich was also dripping with grease. Not very good, it was similar to a freezer Jimmy Deans. It was pretty cheap though, only like $ 3. Service: nice people and accommodating. Though I was one of three people in there. Most people seemed to use the drive thru. Ambience: probably it’s saving grace. It’s essentially just like a Starbucks. A few couches to relax and a nice station for you to put sugar, cream and other additives to your coffee. All in all, it’s not a terrible place. I think the coffee not being hot was because I didn’t go at a peak time. But it’s in a decent location and isn’t far behind from other coffee chains.

This is probably my favorite coffee shop in Jacksonville. If you’re a lover of espresso then right off the bat you’ll appreciate that the machines used here are the manual ones. When walking into a coffee joint that’s one of the first things that I look for. Continuing my peek behind the counter, everything is clean and organized. Another plus. The staff is friendly, and very helpful. During a few visits here I’ve had some new employees serve me, and seem a little lost at times, but the other baristas work well and as a team and help each other out. That makes a huge difference. Every now and then I like to ask the barista helping me to recommend something or surprise me. I’m always please with what they make or create. PCJ offers free wifi, and it’s fast! Very much appreciated when trying to get some work done. The seating area is very clean and well lit. You can find tables, chairs, couches, and booths. I love the wood paneled walls and the low toned colors. It’s a great place to get some work done or just sit and catch up with a friend.

*sigh* where to begin… let me try to be objective. The coffee: Yeah, it was decent. It was hot. The cup didn’t leak. It gave me the caffeine boost I needed to get through the day. No problems here, I suppose. Drive through: Service was prompt. The speaker worked well, and my order was delivered as ordered. Location: No other coffee shops in the immediate area. Easy to find. And they’ve got drive through. Service: Ok, so here’s the only bone I have to pick with this place. Maybe I was being overly sensitive… maybe it was early in the morning. But just because you’re one of the only few coffee chains in the area, it doesn’t give you the right to be über condescending when your patrons don’t know your organization specific name for the drink they ordered. I ordered a large coffee with two shots of espresso, black. It’s clear, it’s concise. I don’t know if you call it a hammerhead, or a red eye, or a jackhammer or whatever the hell else corporate decided to call it. That being said, when I give an otherwise clear order for caffeine(and a lot of it), I don’t need to have some chipper/judgey girl correct me over the speaker and say, «*sigh* oh, you mean you want a ___…». The pretentiousness and attitude are nearly enough to make me just head to the gas station down the road and get a 24oz coffee for a buck fifty than run the risk of having some faux-hipster give me attitude when I’m ordering my coffee(and in obvious need of caffeine if I’m ordering a large coffee and two add-shots). Blah…just changed my review to a two star from a three. So frustrated just recounting the experience that I probably won’t ever go back.
