So we walked in with high expectations because of all of the current stars, but soon realized it’s all a miss understanding. I am big on fries so much as I make my own homemade. I ordered a chicken sandwich which had no kind of Sauce and was extremely dry then to make matters worse when I asked the bartender to get me fresh fries he explained they were made a hour ago. Sorry that’s not fresh in my eyes! On top of that my partners fries were completely different then mine I grabbed all the small left over pieces and he received all the good big FRESH pieces. I will upload picture as well. His burger was burned and for this reason I did not leave a tip. I like my service to be as I treat them with respect and very attentive. To catch the bartenders attention I would have to scream across the bar as hand gestures were not working. Hands done worst experience ever. Will not be going back EVER not even for my cognac.

I was here last Saturday for the first time in about ten years. My memory of the place is mixed. I still enjoyed the atmosphere but the food was one or two steps up from disgusting. The clam strip appetizer wasn’t too bad but I am thinking they got it frozen from their suppliers and heated it up in the oven. The fish in the fish and chips was swimming in grease, obviously hadn’t been drained when taken out of the fryolator. I couldn’t get the fish to stop falling off my fork before it got to my mouth. Slaw was the best part. I will go again but drinks only.

LOVE this place. Whenever my roommates and i just want a chill night out at a bar Costello’s is our go to! Its pretty big and the staff is great. They are actually what makes the bar. Super friendly, talkative, and nice! The drinks and food are both great as well. The environment is definitely what makes this place. Super welcoming! Oh and remember its CASHONLY so don’t forget the cash at home! But if you do its not the end of the world they have an atm on site!

Good sports bar. Have not had the food, but have been for a game or two. Bartender was pleasant and eclectic guests. I still prefer the bar across the street for«after-softball drinks with the team».

The only downside to this bar is that it’s cash only, other than that I love it. I love going to Costellos when I’m in a laid back mood. It’s very casual. Typical bar food and it’s very fresh. You can tell it’s not frozen, pre made food that typical chain food serve. The buffalo chicken pizza, burgers and fries are excellent. They have a great selection of seasonal beer on tap. The best thing is that the drinks and food are reasonably priced.

Asked my server for a non-traditional Rye drink. I Was informed that they can only make manhattans and old fashions. I ordered a Manhattan. Turns out even that was too ambitious. It had dry vermouth and a lime! Could not send it back because We were ignored by wait staff.

Costello’s is my go neighborhood bar in JP. It’s on Centre Street with lots of other bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops surrounding it. There is always a different kind of crowd when I visit. The bartender, John, is a great guy and is fun to talk to when sitting at the bar. Their karaōke night on Wednesday’s is pretty fun also! I’ve had low key nights here with just beer and bar food(amazing onion rings) and also some pretty crazy nights involving shots of tequila. Overall I will continue to come here during my time in Boston.

I’ve gone here a handful of times. I love this place. Your typical bar with a bar menu and bar food. The ladies that work the bar are pretty fantastic, down to earth, easy going. Their house wine is $ 6 a glass and they’re generous w/the pours. Beer list is your typical one but def. affordable. The only down side is that is it CASHONLY, but part of me believes that this place wouldn’t be what it is, if it took credit cards. I like going here, unwinding with a drink or two and talking with my friends. No pretentious bullshit. Just a fantastic local spot to hang out in JP.

Service was splotchy at first. After a show, we came to the bar and told the bartender we would like some food(everything said food was available till 11:30). We told the bartender we’d like to move to a table for food and she said to order food from the waitress. While at the table, we watched a single waitress work her butt off for every table. At 11:10 we tried to order food and the waitress said there was no more food service. Out friend told them we had waited for food service for about a half hour, and we were irritated that the bartender hadn’t warned us, and all advertisements were false. But Natalie worked magic. She fought for us, and we literally saw her fighting with the cook staff as they yelled at her for trying to put in food before the«11:30 deadline.» Food was fantastic. Natalie saved our life. And I loved the atmosphere. Management needs to get their act together.

This was a decent bar that is up the street from my house. It is a locals hangout spot during the week and since I had a friend come in from out of town, I figured we’d go here for a quick bite to eat and drinks. It was clean, the waitress was attentive, and the food was decent, but unfortunately they had a limited supply of spirits on the top shelf which is unusual for any bar I’ve been to. Nevertheless, I will come back and this may be my go to spot in the neighborhood. Additionally, I really enjoyed the Wednesday karaōke session, the quality of singing that was displayed had me marveling about the variety of musical talent in JP!

Costello’s is my weekly unwind dinner and beer spot. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and while some may say that the food is «bleh» I say they are stupid because the food is great. We normally get, you know, the bar food because guess what, it’s a bar! Wings are EASILY the best in town, Club sandwiches, fries, veggie dogs, Mac & cheese and fish & chips are all great. I do wish you guys would put Mexican cheese on the nachos but like, i’m really here for the wings. Costello’s is great servers are always a delight and make us feel welcome. Love u guys.

This is your typical neighborhood bar and good for a low key night. Drinks are pretty cheap here but be warned, it’s a cash only establishment. We’ve been here twice now and each time we’ve forgotten that!

This is my go to place to watch sports in JP. The food is nothing special, but I’m a vegetarian so that does limit what I’ve tried. You can’t beat the beer prices though, and the staff is friendly. It’s not your usually JP spot, and you should probably skip it if that’s what you’re looking for. However, if you want a lively bar with a mixed crowd, basic bar chow, and good prices then this is a good pick.

The two ounce drink of vodka(maybe 3) for $ 4. Is good ie where can you get straight vodka for $ 4. In Boston? So that’s good. Noise level was low on a Monday that’s good. Chicken wings(a bowl, maybe 20 were not breaded, and deep fried, they were ok– their buffalo sauce or blue cheese sauce was good. The salad was good sized and fine. We came here to compare it to the Gallway, across the street. Gallway pours a 2 ounce drink. Charges more. But their choices of food is more, and it’s overall better than Costellos.

Our go-to joint for burgers. I no longer live in JP but if I did I’d still be calling in a juicy cheeseburger every Sunday.

This is my absolutely my favorite dive bar!!! My boyfriend and I come here about once a week to watch Bruins games and it is always fun. It is so warm and friendly, when I brought my father here during a visit he sat down and said«well, I could spend the rest of my life here» and this is always a go-to place when we have friends over. The bar staff is awesome, always up to chat and are quick with a drink. Very loyal and friendly. We are moving out of JP and I will be very sad that our visits will be less frequent.

Oh, Costello’s. How do I review thee? Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time at Costello’s. A lot. It’s not the best bar you’ll ever visit, but it’s certainly not the worst. It’s convenient and affordable. I’ve been there for Red Sox World Series games and more often than not, after a show at the Footlight Club. Filled with a nice mix of older locals and young folks, it’s always hoppin’. Also, they have Deviled Eggs. In an order, you get three halves. Why three? How much more does it really cost to serve me two full eggs’ worth? The food has most definitely improved over my time coming here. Now there’s «Katie’s Kitchen» at Costello’s and they should give a daily handshake to whoever made the decision to let Katie run the kitchen. It’s so much better than before. On our last visit, my husband and I split a Buffalo Chicken Pizza(his choice, I agreed) and I was afraid it would be so greasy and I’d be sick, but no. It was really tasty! I also love getting drinks here for slightly cheaper than I would in some other local bars.

The food is unremarkable, but it’s a very good value. The hot dogs are very good and huge portions for about $ 8. The real secret, though, is the bloody mary. Costello’s makes the best bloody mary I’ve had in Boston. They make them from scratch with horseradish, worcestershire, V8, mustard, etc. Completely different from the regular pre-mixed bloody, and ten times better. They also have good wings. Good dive bar atmosphere, as well, where you’re comfortable but not under any pressure to impress anyone.

It may be weird, but this is my post-yoga spot to hang out with my best friend and replace all that energy with some chicken wings and beers! It is a no-frills locals bar with a good range of beers on tap and all the pub fare you would expect, and they do it really well. The food is always fresh and good, and the bartenders are always nice and attentive. One night our bartender put a lime in a Raspberry Harpoon and it tasted just like a lime rickey — I’m hooked!
