Got a meal voucher due to a horribly delayed flight, so decide to give this place a chance for a late night meal. Fortunately the sushi bar was still open after 11pm(closed around 1130?), so was able to place an order. The tamago was pretty bad; I would avoid this. The kampachi crudo was surprisingly nice though, fatty and flavorful. It was garnished with olive oil, pistachio, and some sort of small pepper. These two dishes totaled $ 20, and I was able to get some green tea for free. Overall not bad for an airport.

Sushi is a great preflight meal– tasty enough to be satisfying but still relatively light so you’re not sitting for hours with a brick in your stomach. At deep blue, service is fast and can be a bit curt but that’s understandable with the amount of turnover they’re dealing with. I ordered the snow white roll and it was ready in about fifteen minutes, which isn’t bad. The snow white roll is made with tempura lobster, crab, yellowtail, and seaweed salad. The warm tempura is really delicious against the cool fish. I didn’t really taste the crab but the lobster was meaty and juicy. The yellowtail wasn’t the freshest but was still passable. The seaweed salad on top is a bit overwhelming in sweetness but you can just take a bit off and eat it separately. The room has some cool blue lighting and is dim, but still bright enough to see your food clearly. Overall, decent service, atmosphere, and food. 4 stars

This is a comically expensive($ 7 for a barely edible miso soup! Disgusting ‘crispy rock shrimp’) but very low quality sushi place that benefits from its monopoly location at Terminal 5. The service is also terrible. The only positive feature is that it has nicely designed décor.

Poor service. A couple actually left because it took about 15 minutes for them to even get a menu. My rosé arrived super warm. It was poured by the waitress and it arrived about 30 minutes after I ordered it. That said, the kampachi crudo was excellent! The sushi was fresh and it was delightfully prepared. This is a great place to chill if you have lots of time to kill before a flight. I would highly recommend that they beef up their customer service to add to the Jet Blue terminal brand experience.

Prompt friendly service. Had edamame and the dragon roll. Edamame could have been warmer and saltier. Dragon roll was fresh and good. Substituted spicy sauce instead of eel sauce. Which was a wise choice. Add two martinis for a total of $ 62.60!!!

Quick, fresh, and wholesome. After eating only sandwiches the whole day, we stumbled across Deep Blue right next to our boarding gate because mom wanted rice for dinner before the 5 hour flight. We chose a table and sat down before flagging down a server. After engaging in some small talk about where our destination was, our waiter agreed we needed to eat something a bit heavier than mere fast food. I ordered the seafood fried rice and the rainbow roll to share. The other dishes were beef fried rice, chicken curry, and chicken teriyaki. I finished every last grain of rice from the mountain of small shrimp, squid rings, and shredded crab, very hungry people here. I liked how the rainbow roll was simple with only salmon, tuna, and yellowtail toppings, none of that fancy unidentifiable stuff. Everyone left their plates clean. Cool ambiance with blue lighting, center bar with dining tables surrounding it. Expensive, but it’s an airport and they cook the food fresh as you order. In and out within an hour, look around for wait staff if you’re in a hurry to pay.

If you choose wisely, you can have a wonderful meal here. I usually have the sushi and rolls but on my last visit i tried the Udon seafood dish, since everytime I’m here everyone is having noodles, usually the ramen. I think it was a mistake. The amount of seafood in the bowl was laughably small — there were two pieces of something so small I couldn’t figure out what they were. Then I realized they were bay scallops, like the size of small erasures on the tips of pencils. That with two shrimp and a partial piece of squid summed up the dish. The udon noodles were good, the broth passable. The sushi I’ve ordered has always been good both as sushi and sashimi and in their rolls. The spicy tuna app on rice crisps is excellent. The tuna tartare dish comes with four large pieces of tuna«with an oyster crema».(This can be had as salmon too.) A lot of the items contain spicy tuna of which I am not usually a fan. Prices are not cheap but not outrageous and typical for an airport restaurant. The service is usually good. I should note that it is one of the few places where you can actually get a large bottle of sparkling water — and it’s Badoit, not very common in the states.

The food in this place is great. The spicy seafood ramen is amazing(I asked for no eggs) great sake to offer, relaxing environment. The kitchen needs to get it together though. I ordered two courses, sushi and the ramen. The ramen was delivered first before the sushi, the sushi arrived about 6 minutes after my food. Basic common sense for service would make this place shine better

Probably the best airport sushi you’ll fine — though some international terminals in LAX and SFO have some great sushi as well. They have additional items as well — not just sushi but noodles and soups. Fairly quick service(and nice people despite having to deal with so many customers). Not a bad option when you’re in the airport.

So, I had just returned from spending a month in Quito, Ecuador. What does that mean exactly? It means a heck of a lot of rice and a heck of a lot of beans. What are my favorite foods? Steak, Chipotle, and sushi. I was in JetBlue terminal 5, had some time to kill before my connecting flight to Buffalo and decided I needed to splurge for some real food. There’s no Chipotle in this terminal and steak was a little out of my price range. I thought Deep Blue Sushi looked pretty swank so I stopped in. Everything on the menu sounded absolutely great but the accompanying prices were less than thrilling. I ended up getting tuna tartare and it was decent. At the end of the day, this is still airport sushi and despite how extravagant the restaurant looks, keep in mind the price you’re paying for airport sushi. Service was decent, although it is usually is when you’re at a table of one. Nothing out of the ordinary… I’d greatly prefer Teton Kitchen in Buffalo, New York to this A-OK sushi in Terminal 5.

Nice and relaxing to eat some Asian food and grab a cocktail. Music is also subdued dance music. The sushi was mediocre. I ordered an avocado roll and it seemed to have been premade(like supermarket sushi: cold and not fresh). I ordered a veg pad Thai. They need to have more vegan options offered and identified in the menu for the vegan travelers. Service was good

This place is pretty good on its own. For airport food I think it’s fantastic. Prices are a little high(airport inflation) Rolls were good — Lobster roll was my favorite. Chicken Pad Thai was just ok — I’m not a fan of peppers and onions in Pad Thai Chicken lettuce wraps were meh. Rock shrimp was really good! Stand alone — this place would be just average — but for an airport I think it’s a great spot if you have a layover.

Eh, it was okay. I ordered the vegetable fried rice because I was really not going to risk ordering raw fish right before a 5-hour flight. Service was slow, considering this was at the airport and not the kind of situation where you would want to dawdle. The moment I started to get panicked we would have to ask where our food was, the food arrived. Taste-wise, it was just okay. But the environment is nice for having a glass of wine and zoning out, watching some of the big screens set up around the room.

I love this place. And not in a «for an airport it’s pretty good» kind of way. I actually love this place. It’s pricey(particularly if you order sushi individually) but worth it and the bartenders are always great. After years of flying LGA and EWR, I have decided that what I save on airport transport from the UES to LGA just isn’t worth it. Newark is actually more money on the ground, but generally cheaper fares on Virgin. The quality of the fish is very high and the rolls are innovative and good. On my way back from the Cape, I stopped before AirTrain for a late lunch(it was my first time and I expected it to be awful but it wasn’t, just kinda long). The fried goat cheese croquettes atop tangy Asian salad was wonderful(and cheap at 9 – 10 given the size). I don’t recommend specialty cocktails here. They’re expensive and low on booze. Stick with the wine, beer, sake, or classic cocktails.

In the middle of a busy airport it’s always nice to find a place that’s a little bigger, a little less crowded, has a bar, and isn’t an Applebee’s or *similar name here* type restaurant. Cheap? Nope. But what airport food is? I knew I wanted sushi even before I got to the airport, so there really weren’t any restaurant decisions to make — only intense, important sushi decisions. We sat at the bar — good beer selection, good drink menu. Cheers to our impending trip? You bet. We had gyoza, edamame, beef fried rice, and three rolls(tuna, salmon, yellowtail)…a few of the specialty rolls looked pretty good, but not good enough to justify the $ 16-$ 19. The beef fried rice was delicious — and the edamame was even better when dipped in the gyoza sauce. The rolls were decently sized and tasted good(probably a smidge of extra flavor added from the x-ray machines), and since I was craving sushi they really hit the spot. In the tradition of good airport restaurants, we were in and out in 20 minutes, so know you can get a meal even if you don’t have a lot of time. For sushi in JFK(at least in terminal 5), good stuff lives here.

it was very hard for me to decide on the number of stars above. Let’s just say, I’m being generous. Yes, it’s true. Airports and Food aren’t the two things that are usually associated favorably together. My favorite airline, jetBlue, did it’s best to break the stereotype when opening up the new Terminal 5 a few years back. If I recall correctly, Deep Blue was their flagship establishment(correct me if I’m wrong). There are a few more options now; an Italian place, and a couple of others. Interestingly enough, they all share the same kitchen for the prepared hot food. The service at DBS is. ok. Some of the staff is quick to please while some others are slow and grumpy. The food was ok. We had the ramen, some rolls, and some beer. The ramen was acceptable. The rolls were not so amazing. The beer… after striking out on 3 thanks to poor inventory management, was typical. For a restaurant, it didn’t do so well. For an airport venue, it’s a welcome change. Until the next.

«Airport sushi». Two words could never have been more mismatched. However, Deep Blue pulls it off, with legitimate, high quality sushi in Jet Blue’s Terminal 5 at JFK Airport. The restaurant is adjacent to the large atrium outside of security and can easily be found by the wide, glowing blue marquee. There are two circular sushi bars, equipped with custom circular sushi refrigerators and 1 – 2 chefs — and one with liquor. There are also 2 and 4 top tables spread through the rest of the restaurant. Observations: — The menu has a decent amount of options, but not what you would find in a normal sushi joint — Prices are airport-high, but not outrageous — Rolls are Japanese-style«norimaki» with nori(seaweed) on the outside — Rolls are a bit small — Sashimi is a decent portion and comes on a rice, so it is really nigiri — Decent beer, wine and sake selection, but prices are high — The pumping music with remind you of Las Vegas — Service is good, but not great I was pleased with my meal and the bill was lower than expected for an upscale airport restaurant. I’d love to see more sushi restaurants in other airports!

They deserve more than 3 stars! Great Sushi — also ok price for being at the airport!!! Just as a side note, we kinda craved steak but the restaurant in the other side inky served steak for 50dollars, no thank you!!! We had spicy tuna roll and tuna tartare — so fresh, fresh and quickly served! When I look at the pics I just get craving for the same again, totally would recommend the place. I’ll be back.

This is my favorite sushi spot in an airport outside of Japan. They play jazzy club music and bathe you in blue fluorescent light while you enjoy sushi and other Japanese and almost authentic delicacies. I’ve not tried the ramen or udon since I’ve become an aficionado. If someone can let me know if it’s worth ordering, I will gift you Unilocal props.

I don’t know what possessed me to get Spicy Seafood Ramen at the airport, but I thought it would be better than it was. The sushi actually WAS better than expected, maybe stick to that side of the menu. Several rice and noodle dishes are available, three ramens– the spicy seafood version has lots of seafood but the noodles and broth taste like they’re out of a grocery store packet. No depth of flavor at all. Dragon Roll was fresh, liked the crisp asparagus inside. Small amount of fish in roll was overpowered by the large amount of fresh avocado wrapped around the outside. Both an alcohol bar and a sushi bar to sit at, along with two– and four-tops. Service was overworked with two servers for the entire restaurant on a Friday night. I like the blue lighting, but dislike the tiny tables.
