Boring! Food was Bland! Watched the owner bitch at his staff(perhaps wife, etc) — not cool at all! We’ll never go back — wasted $ 21.00 for lunch!

We needed to grab a bite to eat before class at GTCC last night so we stopped in for dinner. I ordered the chicken gyro with fries. I don’t eat beef, pork or lamb so it is hard to find a chicken gyro at most places. However, Taste of Troy offers one. Hands down it is the best chicken gyro I have ever had. The chicken is so perfectly seasoned. Plus the gyro is priced fairly and it is stuffed packed full with chicken breast meat. I can’t wait to come back! Next time I am trying their falafel!

Décor:(3⁄5) unimpressive location in strip mall, clean interior and bathroom. I like the open kitchen. Staff:(4⁄5) chef is great, friendly, and very talented. Wife up front seemed nice. Wait staff a bit slow and not very proactive with refilling water(only 2 tables) but polite Food:(4⁄5) great spices on the chicken and lamb shush kabob. Mediterranean salad is delicious with the homemade Greek dressing. The tzidki sauce is a bit bland, needs a touch of garlic and salt. Price is a bit inflated for the portion size but the great flavors make up a little for it. Homemade baklava is also delicious but a bit pricey($ 4) for two small pieces. Will definitely repeat. New standard for Mediterranean food. Previous standard: Chef Samir

Ambiance. * Service * Food** Overall. 1* Service non existent after good arrived. Asked for more tea. Twice. ¼ piece pita bread. Asked for more. Customary cucumber sauce, thin. No cucumbers. Iced tea Gyro«platter». $ 16.86. No. Really. Never again. Don’t waste your time. Only Ghassan and Pita Delight in my future.

Pretty good. I appreciated that the day we went the restaurant was giving 10% of that day sales to a family of 2 little boys who lost their mother. So made my dinner extra special knowing I was helping.

Service and eats never disappoint… favorites are the Mediterranean salad and chicken pita; fresh pita on the side is delicious!

My wife and I stopped in whilst running some errands in the area. I had the Vegetarian Moussaka and my wife opted for two appetizers as a meal, the Red Lentil soup, and the spanakopita. The entrée was served with a small house salad overloaded with bell peppers but with a very tasty house made vinaigrette. The salad was fresh and served on a cold plate. Some pita slices and side of very lightly seasoned saffron rice came with the moussaka. The moussaka itself was very tasty in a house made marinara and was loaded with fresh vegetables. It had a very light, aromatic, extra virgin olive oil taste. The red lentil soup was a bit salty for either of us, but very good. The spanakopita might have been good, I wouldn’t know, my wife wouldn’t share it ;) With tip our meal was nearly $ 30, a bit much for me, but perhaps reasonable for quickly served, fresh, Mediterranean fare. My wife and I agree we would dine here again if in the area.

Stopped in this afternoon to give them a try, and I wasn’t disappointed. The husband and wife team were very kind and outgoing. They made us feel welcome immediately. I had the mixed grill wrap with lamb shank and gyro meats. The wrap was toasted and sealed up nicely. The meats were tender and full of flavor. Lettuce and a little bit of onion accompanied the mild tzatziki sauce. I felt like the perfect amount of sauce was used. It wasn’t drowning in sauce like other places make them. The fries were lightly seasoned and cooked until crisp. If you’re too stuffed for dessert, get the baklava to go. Like everything else, it is made fresh daily.

(3.5 stars) I am spoiled by having decent Greek and Mediterranean options within walking distance of home, but the recommendation of a(Turkish) former student led me to give Taste of Troy a shot. While it isn’t a place I would hurry back to, it made for a satisfying lunch. Taste of Troy can be found on the side of the shopping plaza facing Piedmont Parkway. It’s a small space though there is enough signage to avoid passing it by. There are a few tables and some counter seating inside. It’s a cozy joint, but compared to blue-and-white appointments of Mythos and Mad Greek, it comes off looking a bit Spartan(pun intended). The menu offers little in the way of novelty, but if you’re craving a gyro, kebab, or mezes(spanakopita, baba ganoush, etc.), you’ll find it here. I went with a gyro and a side of fries and did not regret it. The gyro was well-seasoned, the meat was flavorful, and the accompanying veggies(lettuce, tomato, and cucumber) were fresh. The thick-cut fries could have done with more seasoning, but at least they were crisp. The staff here are friendly, and the food arrived quickly. If there is one area where Taste of Troy lags behind, it is pricing. The gyro runs $ 7.25 if you are willing to settle for chips as a side; fries are $ 1.75 more, and a small Greek salad is $ 3.95 more. By way of comparison, Mythos offers a $ 7.45 lunch combo that includes a gyro, fries, and a drink. The entrees are even worse offenders. Kebab platters start at $ 12.95 and top out at $ 16.95 for a mixed combo. Nazareth Bread’s mixed grill is listed at $ 11.99. Tasty as it may be, Taste of Troy’s food is not far enough ahead of the competition to justify what they charge. Food quality and service make Taste of Troy an appealing option for those traveling along Guilford College Road, but the pricing is simply not competitive.

We had the lamb slouvaki, Beef Slouvaki and the Gyro. Taste of Troy has a good rating and review that’s why we ended up trying their food. Place is okay, people are also nice. Food is great compare to the other restaurant that serves the same type of food, I’ll consider this as a HIGHEND version. * I was just disappointed that they don’t make their own fries and the portion is unlikely good enough that comes with the meal. * They serve sweet tea and lemonade(Sweet tea is refillable not sure about the lemonade) other drinks are not refillable like the other places. Over all food is great but pricey.

My partner and I hit this spot during a recent road trip. I must say it was pretty average. The atmosphere was nice, but none of our dishes really shined. The Lamb Souvlaki and Spicy Adana Lamb were very good, but overpriced for the portion size. The Tzatziki was bland and boring, which was surprising since it’s such a staple of Greek cuisine. We were excited to try the Moussaka(the main reason we went there in the first place), but they were out of that dish when we arrive. The service was also slow and inattentive, even thought there was only 1 other table there at the time.

We stopped by here for lunch on our way back from the mountains after reading glowing reviews. It was a mixed bag, sadly. +s: — Lamb Souvlaki was out of this world. Tender, succulent, non-fatty chunks of lamb marinated and grilled with oninons and peppers… very very yummy. –Spicy adana lamb platter was also delicious. The ground, spiced lamb as very juicy and flavourful. –s: –Poor service. Waiter rarely checked on us. We had to get silverware ourselves, etc. — The tzatziki was lacking flavour, which was quite a big disappointment especially for my partner, who loves tzatziki. –Serving size was actually really small for the price. They could’ve at least served more rice with the platters! –They were out of Moussaka… and it was barely past one when we arrived for lunch. I was really disappointed.

I want to love this place. The first time I went I really enjoyed it. I have friends that make Turkish food at home so I really missed some of the classic dishes. The flavors of each dish I’ve tried are pretty good. They don’t get four stars because in general I find they are overpriced for the portions that you get. I don’t mind paying 8 dollars for a lunch sized salad but I feel like you only get about an ounce of chicken. I would suggest going with a friend And sharing an appetizer or two in addition to your entrée. I really enjoyed the zucchini pancakes. The hummus with pita is pretty solid. For lunch I enjoy the Mediterranean salad.

I really enjoyed this place today. I went with the gyro(killed the lettuce, added onions) and fries. This gyro was the best I have had in a long time. The best part is there was no skimping on the meat. I usually gyro near UNCG by I will make the drive from now on The spot is small and a little hidden. A fellow Unilocaler pointed out that the kitchen is viewable from the dining area so no gimmicks here. Watching the lamb chub swirl in front of the heat lamp makes your mouth water(pause). The menu is printed on plain white paper, stuffed in document protectors, kinda janky, they can do better. I am looking forward to trying some of the other offerings. The staff/owners are friendly and really seem to be more concerned that you enjoy your food than just serving you food. I like that. See you next week

QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY!!! This is now My favorite Mediterranean Spot!!! I came here before and I had their amazing Gyro. Let’s just say their veggies are very earthy and fresh! You can taste the leaves in the gyro. Even their salad tasted like home grown leaves. The Pita was moist and soft and the meat was a tasty flavor. Today was not a disappointment either. I ordered their Hummus and the mix was blended so well that it made the chickpea flavor pop. It was also served chilled at the perfect cool temperature. I also ordered their Lamb Souvlaki and oh my god this place knows how to make amazing food. The flavor is very tasty and not oily. The yellow rice was soft and not overcooked. The pepper and onions tasted a little caramelized in the dish was crunchy and not burned. The side sauce of the lamb enhanced the flavor even though the flavor of the dish is already good as it is. Even the Greek salad sauce was the perfect consistency. The husband(who apparently is a culinary chef) and wife owners of this place are very nice and happy people. They’re very welcoming and always smiling. Gotta love a family owned restaurant like this.

We’d not eaten here for awhile, had actually backed way because of the inconsistent quality encountered with this restaurant. But recently, we decided to give it another try, so we placed an order for delivery, choosing Baba Ghanouj appetizer(Alice likes their version, goes for $ 5.99), Adana Kebab($ 14.95), a Gyro($ 7.25), and a Spanikopita appetizer($ 5.99). Just as we’d encountered several times before, they were out of a standard menu item — this time it was Baba Ghanouj — Yeap, Baba Ghanouj! So, a substitution was made for another dip — not sure what it was, didn’t get the name, but it was red & pureed, and was awful. I found two possibilities for what this dip was, perhaps either Kopanisti(feta and roasted red peppers) or Taramosalata(yogurt and mullet roe), if not one of these, then I simply don’t know, but I know I don’t like it. The Spanikopita was nice, as was the Gyro, though it remains rather dry in comparison with other versions, though the extra Tzatziki(cost 60 cents) helped. The Adan Kebab was considerably overcooked, and is considerably overpriced — not a dish I’ll try again. These are nice folks, but the food experience always seems to be hit or miss. We might try again, but with similar, more consistent places much closer by, probably not.

I tried to visit this restaurant TWICE while driving between Washington DC and Atlanta, GA. Both trips, the sign said it was open at 11 am. Both trips, I arrived at 11:15 am to a CLOSED restaurant. Unilocal says they open at 11 am. Their answer machine says they open at 11 am. Their website says they open at 11 am. Am I missing something? So today I arrived at 11:30 am, and they were actually open. But clearly, they were unprepared for service. I sat down and ordered the Mezze Platter appetizer, and my partner ordered the Greek salad. The owner shortly told me that they had no Falafel! That’s like a burger place not having burgers! His reasoning? «We just opened, I only make fresh Falafel for dinner service, and I’m training someone.» Um. No — you are supposed to be open at 11 am — READYTOGO. That means you get there at 10:30 am to PREP and TRAIN your new employee. And Falafel for the dinner service only? That’s just absurd! We watched him opening several cans of «things» as he was prepping, which wasn’t comforting. The Greek Salad was mostly iceberg lettuce. And the portions were RIDICULOUSLY small. We’re hungry. Uh. It sucks because I really wanted to love this place. The owners seem lovely. I wish they’d get it together. On the plus side: The Hummus and Baba was pretty good…

Very good. For now I only went twice, and twice, the people there were so friendly like you are part of their family. You can see them cooking and not hiding in the back of the restaurant. Seems a small thing but when I go to a country specific place(italian, french, turkish, etc…), I like to know that people related to that country are cooking the meal. Not only the food is usually better /more authentic, but you can talk with them and learn a lot. I only tasted the gyro for now but I plan to try a lot more food with time esp, the home made Baklava. The neat thing is that they have some tables outside which is handy when the good weather is back. Give it a try, you shouldn’t be disappointed.
