After reading the reviews I was expecting more. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. The service was really slow though friendly. The food was so so. Far Below Sam’s Chowder House in Half Moon Bay. I got the Fish and Chips, good batter, the fish servings could have been thicker. It’s also set back a bit from the road on the East side of Highway 1 so don’t expect spectacular views.

Reading many of the comments I decided to try them out. All I can say it’s it was very disappointing. The food was greasy and not fresh. The taco special came with 3 tacos with pulled pork inside but nothing else. Within 5 mins the tacos were a mess. Tacos can be made so easily and pretty hard to screw up The burger my brother had was undercooked giving him the most foul gas. I would not recommend this place. Seems run down

My partner loves diner food, and while I’d rather eat at River’s End(more of a special occasion place), Ocean Cove is a perfectly reasonable diner. The service is friendly and attentive, if a little confused here and there. It felt like there were legit regulars in there, if you want the less tourist feel. The ocean view patio is super nice, making it a must stop lunch place.

Ate there last Friday night. Intended to eat elsewhere Saturday night, but the only other restaurant option in the immediate area was closed for a private event, so we went back Saturday. Great food, great prices, good service. Menu certainly worth back to back visits. One thing that is different is they have you seat yourself, and it really doesn’t appear that tables have an assigned waiter. It put me off, but it works. Our orders were taken in reasonable time, and food arrived in a timely fashion. 3 men waiting tables on a packed Friday night, 2 men on a much quieter Saturday night. On Saturday my wife was amused by a woman who appears to work there, whose entire job seems to be telling the waiters when customers need something. Waiter coming out of the kitchen area with food is told a customer needs tartar sauce, which he gets after delivering food, but if she works there, my wife wondered why she just didn’t get the items requested since she was doing nothing else and the waiters were slammed and it would have been faster for her to do it. Maybe she is just a customer/groupie? Saturday night they had a guy playing guitar and singing, all songs I had never heard before, including one with F-bombs in the lyrics. No kids there Saturday(unlike Friday) so no big issue, but given that they had turned all the TVs off while this guy sang… during the baseball playoffs… I could have lived without that. But I came there to eat, not be entertained, and they did not disappoint with the food.

We visited twice in one weekend, mainly because there isn’t a lot of choices for inexpensive dining in the area. The first time everything was really delicious, but took forever to appear. We had the house salad, cod tacos, clam chowder and the seafood linguini, all very nice but not too expensive. The second time everything showed up fast, but didn’t taste that great. The fries and deepfried prawns were over salted. The shrimp louie was okay but very little shrimp. It isn’t bad, just not that great.

Three yesses to the fish and chips. We had the cod and chips. The crispy battered fish lightly layered on golden-brown fries was a great meal to have outside on the windy porch overlooking the bluffs off highway 1. We had to get a blanket to stay out there, but it was a lovely meal. It’s a bit pricey at $ 14.50 for fish and chips. Wish they had a warmer out there to keep us toasty while admiring the beautiful view. The tacos left a little bit to be desired. If you must sit inside because you didn’t dress warmly or because you didn’t somehow bring a queen-sized anthropologie blanket for your whole crew, the bar inside has the best view of the bay. The meal, the view, the service all were great. Wouldn’t hesitate to stop here again.

Came here after exploring the coast and going to Fort Ross. The food and drinks were yummy and the staff was friendly. Will definitely come here again. I ordered the Cod Tacos and they were good.

Just the place to stop by to refuel after a long camping trip. It’s homey, inviting and their menu has all the comfort foods that will load you up with carbs in no time. I recommend the fish and chips as well as the chicken fettuccine alfredo. They also have PBR on tap, so good! The bar has a nice ocean view. Honestly, this restaurant feels like it could be right out of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. It probably hasn’t been updated since the 90’s is what I’m trying to say. Old school atmosphere and good bites. Family friendly and lots of free parking! Great for groups. Patio seating available. Not sure if it’s dog friendly, I’d call and check, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is dog friendly.

We stayed in the Ocean Cove Lodge, and this was the only restaurant within miles — and there’s no reason to go anywhere else! Food is good, and service is good, although slower when 20+ campers invade to watch a basketball game on the multiple big screen TVs(it’s a bar after all)… We also returned the next evening for dinner. When the hostess informed us on Saturday evening that they will be slow due to the crowds, I expected a long wait, but despite the packed rowdy crowd the food was delivered much faster than expected — drinks took a while longer. The Calamari strips is definitely highly recommended, as is the cod fish and chips, house salad and fried prawns. Sunday evening was much quieter since the campers didn’t have a game to watch, and the service and food remained fast, fresh, and highly recommended. For the only restaurant within miles this could be a disaster since they have a somewhat captive audience, but the price, quality and service remains affordable, good and efficient! The view from the bar is also exceptional — if the fog is not rolling in… Definitely recommended if you’re in the area!

Get the salmon cakes! Yum. Brian makes a mean top shelf margarita too. The seafood Alfredo pasta was the best I ever had! The best restaurant in the area by far! We drove 15 miles out of our way and we are so glad we did! Brian is so nice and service was quick!!!

First, you should know about the Margaritaaaaaaaas. Ask for a top shelf margarita, $ 9, made by Brian. Best ever. As for the food, this place should have a sign out front that says«SERIOUSLYSURPRISINGLYGOOD.» It deserves some hype. The seafood Alfredo pasta and the fish and chips: EXCELLENT. Tender and flavorful. And then the staff: adorable, charming, and fun. The hotel staff is sweet. And there is an ocean view!

Great place to drink. Really. I mean it’s a really really great place to drink. Super friendly locals, The staff is funny, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Ask for Tami! She’s knows endless bar jokes. They have one of the very first, hand made social hot tubs in California. The view speaks for itself. If you love ocean hiking, this place is Highly recommended for a weekend getaway.

Last-minute urge to head for a one-night stay at the coast led us to Ocean Cove Bar & Grill and while it’s not a «fauncy» place, it is clean, everything works, and it is affordable. We had a small fridge, coffee maker, lamps, and two beds in our room. All together perfect for sleeping from our Midnight arrival to our 9 am departure. The beds in our room seemed a bit older and one was very bouncy, but that did not keep us from getting a good night’s sleep. And the motel owner/operator, I’m assuming that is who he is, Tim is really nice and helpful with suggestions on where to go for the day. So, in a nutshell, it represents good value. We will be back.

If you remember the Salt Point Lodge & Grill(and its owner) of years past, Ocean Cove Bar & Grill is a re-do of the best moments, while avoiding the miserable experiences provided by a subsequent owner. Thankfully, original owner has repurchased and made huge changes; hence the new name. As of 7⁄14 they’re also serving breakfast at 9am. Restaurant, bar and patio all have full-on views. The high points: Delicious breakfast, homemade biscuits, strong dark-roast coffee, attentive service, clean, remodeled dining room, $ 5 Bloody Mary, ocean view. Repeat: $ 5 Bloody Mary. Generous pour, with freshly made mix. And, with a million dollar view. Our eggs & potatoes breakfast, around $ 7, was excellent. Easily the best breakfast, at a great price, in 30 miles. If you’re there on Sunday morning, there’s a farmer’s market from 10am-noon at nearby Fort Ross School.

One night, while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway, my grandparents decided we would just stop at a random place along the coast. Ocean Cove Lodge happened to make the list because they also had a restaurant and they really are situated right in front of a cove.(We saw a whale!!) For dinner, I ordered the beer battered prawns with fries and cole slaw. That was some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had; I’m not even kidding. Everything about that meal was pretty perfect, and they even gave me a nice cup of ranch in which to dip my fries — yay! For $ 14.50, I’d be hard pressed to find a better meal elsewhere. I mean, it’s the West Coast — the seafood is amazing! Eat it! Pair the meal with an Anchor Steam beer and you are set. Can I just go back and eat this all the time? Maybe they’ll let me work there and they can just pay me with shrimp. Our waiter was lovely and super friendly. You could tell that some of the people there were regulars and their conversations were very lively; I like places with that sense of community and where people know you on a first name basis. You would think, even with the conversations, that service would be slow, but I didn’t find that to be the case at all. Our glasses were always topped off, if someone had finished their beer, they were quickly asked if they would like another, and our food was promptly brought to the table. Not too quickly, though, because you could tell it was freshly made, but the wait wasn’t oh-my-god-I-am-so-hungry-what-is-taking-so-long. This place is hard to miss if you are driving on the coast and I highly recommend you stop on by — the shrimp alone are worth the visit.

Freaking WOW. While camping up at Salt Point State Park, husband and I decided we didn’t want to eat hot dogs for lunch AND dinner, and set out to find someplace decent and manageably-priced along the coast. In my previous travels up and down Highway 1, I’d passed this place a dozen times, and always wondered if it was any good. Folks, it was so good I want to come back and stay at the lodge just so I can eat there again. Now, our wait was long. I’ll give the complainers that. But it was 100% worth the wait. I had the grilled cod sandwich, husband had the cod po’boy. Both were AWESOME. I’m not lying, or even exaggerating, when I say it was the best fish sandwich I ever had. It was the cod itself that did it — flaky, fresh, seasoned beautifully, and plenty of it! Their fries were tasty, and their ranch(my favorite fry-dipper) was either exceptionally fancy or homemade, and either way it was delicious. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder, and I’ll say this — I’m typically against rosemary in a clam chowder. Either I just don’t usually like it, or I’ve rarely seen it done well, I’m not sure. This? Was done PERFECTLY. It was so good, I finished the whole thing before most of it had even cooled properly. I raved about the meal all through it, and then all the way back to camp, and then to our friends once we got back. That is how much I liked that lunch. We stopped in for breakfast the next morning on our way home. Breakfast? Was just as good. Eggs were absolutely delicious, potatoes were fried, but fried well and super tasty, and their biscuits and gravy? Smoky, spicy and heavenly. The gravy was HOT, hotter than I usually can stand(I’m really really sensitive to spicy foods, to the point that I call things«too spicy» that many other people call, «pretty mild») — and I still finished it. Because it was that good. The atmosphere is casual and cozy, and the view of the ocean is fantastic. I sort-of wish I could give the place six stars.

We decided to stop and have dinner at the Ocean Cove Lodge, Bar & Grill on 07÷06÷14 since we had a great visit there the month before. We were craving their calamari again! We went on a Sunday evening after all the weekenders were gone. The patrons were all pleasant and talkative. The bartender/waitress was very kind, attentive and somewhat quit. We sat at the bar and ordered dinner. The bar has a fabulous view of the ocean. They also have a great assortment of beer and yes they have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale(yummy). I ordered the calamari for an appetizer and as last time it was fabulous! I followed it up with their rib eye steak and I got a salad. The rib eye was fried and it was not the best I have had, but it was good. Their salad was fresh. I looked around at other people’s food and it all looked so good. If you’re looking for a good burger, fries, fish and chips, salmon, good selection of beer and good people then you are looking to stop here.

This is a great find along this part of the coast. The ocean view from the bar is outstanding. The menu has a lot of variety, on the light side plus regular entrees. Also, many dinner specials were offered. We had Salmon Fish & Chips. Delicious beer crust with moist fish inside. We shared a yummy chocolate cake ala mode for dessert. Prices were reasonable. Good service and friendly.
