We found a living social deal and decided to try this spot out. The yogurt bhel was very good! Both in taste and quantity. Our main course was just sweet. I order Malai kofta which was good in the beginning but later the nutty, and creamy taste started tasting weird. My friend order dhal makahni which wasn’t so bad. Since there are so many Indian restaurants around I wasn’t so impressed with this one. Service was good, and the ambience was nice also. Just hope they can improve the food.

We’ve dined here in the past, but I don’t think we’ll return. While our prior experiences have been good, tonight’s service was awful. We waited a long time for both our appetizer and our meal. When the meals arrived, my lamb kabobs were completely raw and I don’t mean rare. For the first time in my life, I sent my food back. The waiter said that he’d put the meat back on the grill for five minutes, but it was a full half hour before it arrived. By that time, my husband had finished his meal and I took mine to go. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

We had the worst experience at this restaurant! Who takes 2 hours to serve a meal or anything while being seated! We have ordered food delivery before and the food has always been great. So i brought my parents here when they were visiting and I was so upset because they kept sending out deliveries while we were staring at each other’s faces for 2 hours! I noticed it was not just us, most of tables’ food was late. We were almost going to walk out and food finally arrived. Will never return, word of caution everybody!

The restaurant food quality has improved significantly. The air quality is still lacking but all in all worth it IF you buy the Groupon. The restaurant is BYOB so be sure to bring a bottle. We ordered the shrimp Korma and chicken Chettichand, both dishes were delicious. We also got the peshwari naan(bread) which came stuffed with nuts and raisin, also really delicious. They give you complimentary papad(lentil chips) which he picked up right away with our chutneys; wish he has asked if we wanted to keep the chutneys or if we wanted a refill. They also need some kind of air movement in the restaurant, the air is pretty stagnant.

Had been for lunch… good place to settle up your Indian craving… had the lunch buffet was good though the tandoori chicken was a little hard to chew… rest of the non vegetarian dishes were good…

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Jersey City. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and it was delicious. We have been here a few times and it has always been a tasty meal! This time we ordered the vegetable appetizer platter to start. It was a great assortment of vegetable fritters. The onion rings are my absolute favorite part. For our entrée we split the palak paneer, the chicken tikka and garlic naan. The palak paneer was so fresh! It wasn’t too creamy as many places serve. It was filled with lots of cheese and that’s my favorite. The garlic naan is fluffy and light. The chicken comes out sizzling and make sure to squeeze the fresh lemon wedges on. It adds the best flavor to the meat. The food always comes with a side of rice included. The service is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly and they don’t rush you at all which is nice. I love coming to this restaurant!

I want to love this place. Their food is amazing, albeit a bit on the pricey side. But their delivery service is just awful. Last night it took over 2 hours(and we had to call twice). Unfortunately, that wasn’t just a one off occurrence(perhaps explained by a busy night or lost driver). We keep trying as the food is great(we’ve probably ordered from there 5 or 6 times) and we haven’t found better nearby, but we’ve literally never had it take less 1 hour 15, and that’s usually a ‘good’ day. I guess it would be ok if they said it was going to take so long, but the website always says 45 mins to an hour. So, I think we’re going back on the hunt again, but if the delivery service ever improves, we’ll try again!

Please do not order from Blue Lotus, especially for delivery! Quite frankly, the owner does not put their customer first. We have ordered delivery and pickup over half a dozen times. On average, the delivery was at least an hour to 90 minutes late. I could understand if they have occasional busy nights or have some temporary staffing issues. However, the extend of the delay is systemic and the owner(and employee) is never apologetic or concerned about customers’ displeasure. Calling the them does not seem to help or add any urgency. They seems to treat complaint as annoyance rather than notes for improvement. Nearly two hours for two entrees are not acceptable and a quick look among reviews here confirms this is normal from Blue Lotus. They say customers come to a restaurant for food but return for good services. We would definitely not be back!

I had dinner at Blue Lotus Last night with 7 other friends from work. Since this was the first time many of us were dining on Indian cuisine we decided to order family style. We shared the: 1. Shrimp mango curry 2. Garlic naan 3. Chicken tandoori 4. Butter chicken 5. Biyrani rice 6. Palak paneer 7. Navratina korma 8. Lamb vindaloo 9. Butter naan Everything was delicious, and my personal favorite was the lamb vindaloo. It was the spiciest dish on the table, and it paired well with the Malbec I was sipping on.(BYOB) my second favorite was the butter chicken, but next time I’ll request they make it spicier. Service was excellent. Dining room is well decorated creating a warm welcoming ambiance. I most definitely plan on visiting this quaint establishment again.

Generally ok with the place. Had some decent lunches and dinners. Better than average Indian fare… Not worth the trip, but if you are from around, worth stopping by.

Did not taste the food, so cant comment on that but they need better management. I placed an order for delivery through the Unilocal app. The order was placed around 8:15PM, when we called at 9:10 they said it would take 10 more minutes. Around 9:45 I called again and was told that the food had still not left, so I wanted to cancel the order, but the manager refused to do so. He resisted for over 15 mins. I had to eventually hang up on him. The food was sent inspiteof requesting to cancel. When I called back to get a refund for the canceled order a few days later, he started arguing again, saying he remembered me and they had to throw away the food because of me, it wasn’t their fault and I should expect such delays on the weekend. Two hours to deliver 2 entrees and an appetizer is absurd.

Unfortunately I have to update this review with a recent negative experience I had ordering delivery. We ordered at 7pm on a Friday night. Called around 8:20 when food was still not here. They assured us it was«on the way.» Called again around 8:45, same thing. Offered a 25% discount and resisted when we asked to cancel the order. 9:15 rolls around, we’ve already eaten something else, we call to cancel and they finally agree to cancel our order. Then the buzzer rings! The delivery guy then offers a 20% discount(huh?) and we tell him to please refund our money. So I get if you are busy, its a Friday night, but over 2 hours for delivery is never acceptable. The worst part was lying to us, saying it’s on the way when clearly it was not. I won’t be ordering from here again, even though the food was good when I’ve had it in the past.

I wish I could give this place more stars. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this to someone who is craving Indian food or is wanting to try Indian food for the first time… because this is not what it is supposed to taste like. Definitely from a North Indians perspective, they missed the mark on the North Indian food. I can’t speak for the South Indian dishes(dosas etc) because we didn’t try any of it. The most basic North Indian dish, dal tadka aka black daal aka lentils, had no flavour, was WAY too thick, and was just very disappointing. If you can’t do a classic dish right, then we have problems. The mango lassi, which also a very basic drink, was also way too thick. The only dishes that were semi decent were the tandoori chicken and the biryani. Especially since Jersey City is known to have good quality indian food, this definitely was not up to par.

They were nice enough to allow us to sit in for food though the were closing in 40 min. I will say that there are better indian spots but this was pretty good. I had the chicken cheetinad which was pretty good. Chicken was a bit dry but the best part was the plentiful and delicious coconut curry sauce it’s served with. I also some of the eggplant dish which name escapes me. Again didn’t care for the eggplant, which I don’t like anyway but the ginger sauce it came with was great. The buttered naan was also great,. Delicious and hot. The wait staff were nice throughout giving us extra rice and refilling our water. The setting is like most indian cuisine spots, dimly lit bit spacious. The food came out fairly quick and was very hot. I can’t speak for the delivery, but eating in here was solid. Not the best but very good.

A really cute and small eatery that’s tastefully designed, Blue Lotus highlights some of the typical Northern Indian cuisine that you’d expect, but they also have some unique regional dishes that are not as common. Husband and I along with his three cousins came here during the July 4th holiday weekend, and we loved everything about the place. The food was impeccably prepared, with a honest and refined flavor profile unlike I’ve ever had. The spices were fresh and pungent and the consistency of the sauces was smooth and rich without being artery-clogging heavy. Our favorites were the lamb rogan josh, with a tangy tomato base, and the Aloo Gobi, but everything was delicious. Naan was really good, but be forewarned that it is a La carte and you will want to order 2 – 3 pieces to sop up all that yummy sauce. The plating was simple yet elegant. I love the white minimal geometric bowls, and the white tablecloths. It matches the overall neutral décor with ornate wall sconces and an equally intricate entrance wall piece. There’s also a small little fountain near the side of the entrance that was enchanting and soothing. Service was prompt but not rushed. Everybody was so nice and hospitable; I just wanted to get to know them even more. :) If I’m ever in the area again, I would definitely come back to enjoy the food, and would strongly suggest you to do the same.

I was a bit hesitant to order delivery based on all the terrible reviews I saw online however I decided to risk it and just eat a snack if I got hungry waiting for it. Turns out I didn’t need to have such low expectations. My food came within an hour and was still warm! Here’s the breakdown: Chicken Tikka Masala($ 15) — Creamy and tomato-ey as it should be with generous chunks of chicken(served with rice) Butter Chicken($ 15) — Spicy with peppers and the sauce has a slight kick to it(served with rice) Garlic Naan($ 4) — Probably would’ve been better fresh but the taste was still delicious It would’ve been nice if they had an option to order naan with the chicken dishes instead of rice(for people that prefer naan). Quite frankly I don’t know that I’ll be going back too often based on the prices but the food was definitely good. When my next craving for Indian food hits, Blue Lotus will definitely be a contender.

My weak digestive system has always held me back from straight up nose diving into all the delicious creamy spices that makes up so much of Indian food. It was with much skepticism and downright fear that I ventured to Blue Lotus after it first opened to put my body to the test again. To my surprise, no disastrous aftermath, no heartburn or worse. The lamb, chicken, and spinach dishes are always amazing, of course being the CARBovore that I am, my favorite still being the soft fragrant naan. Do expect the food to take a long time to come out because they had told me everything is made to order, but trust me, well worth your wait. I’ve been here about 5 times now, and find that the service was better when it first opened compared to more recent months. Bottom line — Highly recommended Indian restaurant in downtown JC, the food takes about 40 minutes to come out but well worth the wait.

I came back here for a long lunch with one of my former coworker friend last week and I have to say their lunch line up was much better in terms of value than their dinner selections. I had a Palak Chicken combo for $ 9.95 I felt really got my money’s worth. I was not expecting the portion to be almost the same as the dinner size. In the end I left really full with still spinach cream left because was simply too much to finish it all. This is definitely one of the best spot for Indian food within downtown JC, a bit unfortunately it’s not located closer to waterfront otherwise would be coming in much more often :) Very freshly baked naan and I found the dessert with the lunch to be really quite delicious compared to most of the Indian buffet I’ve tried Great service as with last time although both times I’ve been here there hasn’t been many people in the restaurant itself, I guess they mostly get their orders to go or delivery being in a residential neighborhood that is a block away from Hamilton Park. Highly recommended if you’re in the area and never tried the place I think you won’t be disappointed.

Great little Indian café! Loved it here. Food is amazing and full of flavor. Ordered spicy shrimp appetizer which we ate with a wheat style roti pancake. The shrimp was tender and moist — the roti was a nice contrasting texture. Garlic Nan was a nice compliment to the curry. The Nan was puffy, flaky and slightly buttery. My Spicy Lamb dish was very good, i liked the curry so much i consumed every last drop of curry and used the nan to sop up any left over curry in the bowl! Great new spot I found in jersey city. This was a small place with just 10 tables. Only negative was the service was slow seeing the place wasn’t that busy however this could be the standard for this establishment. The taste of the food more than made up for the delay.
