the staff earlier was really nice and friendly, but recently noticed lot of change in staff and with very bad attitude

This place is cheap but with a no hygiene. I took a combo meal here yesterday and found a stapler pin in food. It stuck in my throat and somehow I managed to take it out. On reporting it to the guy at counter, he saw the pin and throw it in trash and sad sorry. After some argue, he said he will dispose the remaining dish but I observed and they continued to server it to other people. It was ugly treatment by staff and no care for customers. Once I found long hair in the meal and it was similar treatment.

This spot has some of the best South Indian food I have ever had. I love indian food but I am usually eating it alone which is why I appreciate the buffet weigh style of this spot. Also for a little Indian place in the mall food court, it goes way beyond expectations. The Dosas are amazing and he service is just greAt. They will always give you a sample of something too. Menu is constantly changing so you will never get bored! Summary of favorites: dosa, chili paneer, chaat, yogurt rice, coconut chutney, eggplant, curry eggs

I come here for their dosas but it takes too long(ten minutes) and my friends are already done with their food by the time I sit down to eat. So it’s just awkward but otherwise i come here for the dosas and I enjoy them

Not the fanciest place but if you desperately need a dosa they will provide you one affordable and with a smile!

The buffet by pound is over priced and easily adds up to around 10 $ per person with Nan bread. Ordered Kara Dosa which was horribly spicy and just has raw chilli powder inside the dosa. they are operating in USA where ppl dont usually consume spicy food, they should atleast add a note that the item is spicy

Really tasty! I don’t know what half the things were that I put in my thali, but it was all delicious. There are signs describing the dishes, but some do not include English translations. There are definitely some options that you wouldn’t see at your typical Indian restaurant. I love the idea of Indian thalis where you get little portions of multiple dishes, but this is even better since you get to pick what you want. I had to ask for raita. I don’t think I was charged extra for it. This place is managed by the people who do Taste of India. Right now the only Thali location is this one. It costs $ 6.29 a pound. I put the wrong price on my photo.

bad bad bad. Avoid. Stomach is upset, food was too oily. Better off with Sbarros across from there.

Food is over priced and i ordered a meal at 740PM; it was served to me ice cold. I don’t give it the absolute bottom rating because the spices were good.

I am super obsessed with the Onion and Chili Uttapam from here. It is blazing hot, like 2 beverages hot, but it’s the kind of fire that you can’t stop eating. Sooo good, excited to be on my way to have one now.

Wow, I never thought I’d be this excited to write a review for a food court establishment, so here goes: Recently, I’ve grown to appreciate South Indian food which tends to be vegetarian and incorporates lentils, spices, and coconut. While I am still a meat-eater, over the years, I’ve found myself gravitating toward places that can make delicious, varied vegetarian meals, because in some ways that is more challenging and more healthy for me. Perhaps because of the labor involved in making some of the dishes, South Indian food in NYC is pricier than other Pak-Indian styles, so, with that in mind, getting a meal for under $ 10 that is filling and consists of so many awesome flavours is exciting for me. It is $ 2.99/0.5lb, but the food is «light» — it’s not like you’re getting a dense piece of lasagna which weighs 2 pouns. I think they mix up the dishes in the buffet, but I have enjoyed the sambal(the soup), chickpea salad, a butternut squash dish, the coconut chutney etc.

Alrightttt! Finally a place in the food court that I can rely on to eat when I go shopping. As a vegetarian, food court dining can be a depressing experience. Well Thali makes me want to go to Newport, which is hard to do. Thali is South Indian food buffet style and you pay by weight like many other establishments. It wouldn’t make sense for them to allow to keep serving yourself like lunch specials at other indian restaurants. Those lunch specials belong to dine-in restaurants that use the«All– you-can-eat» as a promotion to get people inside and come for dinner later on and this is THEFOODCOURT at a MALL. Besides that, I love indian food but most of it is too spicy for me. HOWEVER, Thali has so many options that are not spicy and mild… which by the way I CANNEVERFIND anywhere when it comes to indian food, even if they say it is mild ITISNOT. I have not found that to be a problem here and that makes me so happy. They have a lot of variety and I have been able to eat indian food that I would have never tried otherwise. Since you serve yourself you are able to try a little bit of everything if you want. The girls that work there are soooo niceeee too, they are always willing to answer my questions. Also!, Dosas made to order.

They get two stars one for for the nice demeanor and the other was for the Channa Marsala. I didn’t like this place. They didn’t have regular rice for the dishes, they didn’t seem to have a good selection and the their foods I had were not very good. To the point that I now have to go get a different lunch from somewhere else. one other note. the«Buffet» is charged by the pound and you cannot come back for seconds. as you can at many Indian restaurants.

I’ve recently started eating Indian food more often, and was delighted to find Thali in Newport Centre Mall. I started off with it’s affiliate restaurant — Taste of India — which has excellent food too. But Thali has more of a variety. And they have lots of veg choices, which is right up my alley. In addition to its very deliciously pungent, spicy and appetizing offerings, I’m addicted to two of their desserts — gulub jaman, which are spongy cakes(that look like doughnut holes) soaked in sweet, rose-scented syrup, and vermicelli payasum, which is a South Indian dessert featuring vermicelli, cardamom(whole!!), sugar, cashews, raisins, ghee, boiled milk, and almonds(ingredients vary.) It’s served warm, and is fantastic. Their drinks are good as well; I enjoy the cool refreshing pomegranate juice that has coconut, basil in it, and the mango lassi. It’s tempting to want to taste everything Thali offers; however, as you add more items to your tray, keep in mind that the price of your meal will go up, as it’s weighed by the pound. Still, it’s worth it, because the mall offers way too many fast-food chains. Many of the spices in Indian food are healthy. If you like Indian food, give Thali a go; it’ll be worth your while!

It’s food court food, so have a low expectation. There. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I can move on to the review. There are two Indian food outlets next to each other in the food court at the Newport Center. I don’t know why they do that, perhaps it’s because one is vegetarian and one is not. Thali is the vegetarian one and it’s a buffet, meaning that you load up your tray and it’s weighed at the end. A decent portion — see my picture — is about $ 8. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with vegetarian! This is some seriously scrumptious and high flavor food. I can’t even begin to remember the names of the dishes, but there was a corn salad one and a cold chick pea salad and a hot chick pea stew and a rice dish and a noodle dish. The only one I remember is the paneer, which is a spiced cheese. I know, it sounds odd. But try it. If you like food that isn’t boring, you’ll like Thali! Tip: These are all rather drippy oily sauces so if you get them on your shirt, they are a major pain in the checkbook to get out. Eat very carefully!
