If you are out for a late night of drinking and looking for sown thing greasy this is the place! The chicken sandwich is tasty and filling and actually tastes like McChicken. The fried chicken and fries are usually hot and crispy. Their portions are also generous considering the price. Don’t get the beef patty(looks like an empanada) because the filling is absloutly discussing. It tastes like flavored sand inside cardboard.

This place wants so bad to be a prototypical hood chicken spot. Its not, but the fried chicken isn’t too bad(though it lacks the crunch that I desire). My dinner box came with a biscuit(good), coleslaw and mashed potatoes with gravy. The portions of the latter two were small, and they lacked any sort of flavor. Prices aren’t too bad and I like that it’s open til 4AM but I won’t be back unless I’m in Jersey City around that time and starving.

Gross. Ordered the 5 piece ribs with cole slaw, mashed potato and biscuit, and my wife ordered the 2 piece fried chicken with fries and biscuit to go. They forgot my mashed potatoes. The ribs are huge — too big and too tough to be pork — maybe cow? They were inedible with very little meat on them — mostly sinews and fat. The bbq sauce on the ribs tasted like SpaghettiOs sauce. The fries were stale. I live nearby, and they are open late so people go there after the bars close. They leave their trash all over the street. There are literally chicken wing bones, paper plates and napkins every 5 feet down the whole block.

This place took my order and waited till it was done to tell me that they don’t take card. I went to their atm and took money out and they told me that they had sold my meal to someone that had cash.

First things first we will start with service. As I entered I the restaurant I saw the cashier scooping ice cream for two older women. When it came time to pay he tried to up charge them, maybe because it was hot, I’m unsure but charging $ 2 for a cup when the menu says $ 1.48 the women called him out and the cashier just said it changed. The woman contested and got the menu price after 3 minutes. Second while waiting a long time ~15 minutes for my gyro I saw another man come in who got some chicken and asked for a substitution of his drink for a pie which he said he did every time he came in. He understood it was a $ 1 up charge but the cashier again tried to charge him more. $ 2 on top of his meal when the menu shows the price difference as $ 1. The cashier said again ‘it changed’. When I finally got my food I had asked for no onions. There were onions. Also NOSAUCEONMYGYRO! Who serves food like that. On top of that it was bad. Overall bad experience with the service and the food. Won’t be back. I wrote my first review that’s how unhappy I was with this place

Good for late night drunk chicken, other than that, I do not recommend. I highly recommend also getting something made«fresh», as opposed to the fried chicken that has been sitting out for a while. Italian cheesesteak, chicken sandwich and popcorn chicken are all good options. Don’t expect amazing quality, but who cares you should be drunk and just enjoy a nice warm meal when eating this.

If YOU think this is good fried chicken, my soul hurts for you. The only thing this place is, is one of the ONLY places open after the bars are closed. It is drunk food and your body will pay you back in agony the next day. It is not out of the ordinary to witness, start or be involved in some sort of altercation here as the general clientele is a bunch of hood rats mixed with drunken douche bags. Leaving this place is the ultimate walk of shame. I still give it three stars, because what else is going to please my drunkenness at 3:00AM?

I like this place. 1) The fried chicken is good. 2) The mashed potato suck. One point off. 3) The food is cheap. 4) Open late. 5) I will recommend Kennedy’s Fried Chicken nearby. Much better.

Spread throughout downtown Jersey City, there are a few restaurants resisting the recent influx of artisinal dining establishments. Hollywood Fried Chicken is definitely one of the most prominent rebels. To call this place a restaurant is an exaggeration. There may be tables and seats, but it’s not somewhere you want to sit and enjoy your meal, unless its 3:00am in the morning and you’ve been drinking all night. The interior isn’t kept very clean and the fellow patrons can be kind of shady. The food itself is pretty decent. While some people will only eat here as a late-night stop. I can happily say it’s good even when you’re not under the influence. The prices range depending on what you want to order. The walls are covered with tons of meal options. The staff are as nice as can be expected for a place that will actually sell you individual pieces of fried chicken. Most of the conversation with them involves having your order repeated. Environment: 1⁄5 Food: 3⁄5 Price: 5⁄5 Service: 2⁄5 With no Popeyes or KFC restaurants within reasonable walking distance, Hollywood Fried Chicken pretty much as a monopoly on the downtown fried chicken market. We all know it’s bad for us, but if you do have a craving, their food will hit the spot.

I’m not the biggest on fired chicken, but my girlfriend is so we ended up here. The place isn’t very clean or attractive but it’s going to be hard to find better fried chicken around here. In places like this I look for value above all. If I’m not paying for experience I want bang for the buck. The menu has a ton of value meals. More than just chicken as well(burgers, sandwiches). You have plenty of sides to choose from as well. There’s macaroni salad, potato salad, slaw, biscuits, mac n cheese, the list goes on and on. If you have an off beat craving, you’ll find it. The chicken is much better than expected. Unique flavoring, good skin, and freshly prepared. The biscuits are like cake. You could easily burn through three of em. The sides go on for days so you’ll find one you love. Great value, great food. Sober or drunk.(Probably put more money on being drunk though.)

This time, I went sober. This is risky, since I had a great experience when I was drunk. What if this place actually sucked and it was just the alcohol talking? Turns out, that’s not the case. I came here at midnight with four of my male friends after raging at Electric Zoo. We were starving. We looked at thr menu and we decided to split a dinner bucket: 18 pieces of chicken, 4 biscuits, mash potatoes and potato salad. That’s what it said on the menu at least. Thr guy actually gave us a choice of potato salad, macaroni salad or cole slaw. We took so long deciding that he gave us both the macaroni salad and cole slaw. We also waited like 10 – 15 minutes for our order because it was so big. They didnt have enough pieces left to fill our order immediately. I was ok with that. After all, we get a fresh batch of chicken! We got back to my apartment, whipped out the food and watched Scrubs. It was the perfect ending to an awesome day. The chicken was AH-MAZING. It might have been better when I was sober. The chicken is juicy, well seasoned and the skin was crispy. Pure heaven. The biscuits were really good as well. I was a little less than happy when they forgot my biscuit last time, so I was hoping this wouldn’t repeat. Thankfully it didn’t. I’m not a fan of cole slaw or macaroni salad, but the guys loved it. They also loved the chicken and biscuits. The mash was good as well. Looks kind of cheap but doesn’t taste like that at all. Oh and this costs us $ 25 total, including tax. It was a great deal! For $ 5 a person, we had a delicious late night meal. Overall, great food and will certainly be back again!

Is it as good as Popeye’s or KFC… no way! But it’s great late night drunk food. Don’t eat sober.

Finally made it here with a belly full of booze — finally gets it’s upgrade from 3 to 4 stars! Gotta say, it was much better and woke up with no hangover. Thanks Hollywood Chicken!

Every neighborhood’s got a spot where you sheepishly go in to grab a bite after a night of drinks… This is my spot. Plus, there’s no other fried chicken place in downtown! Okay, so according to my husband, if you want the biscuit(not the roll), you have to order the combo and explicitly tell them«biscuit.» Otherwise you’ll get home and find out you have a roll :) It’s fried chicken, when it’s fresh, it’s good. When it’s not, you’ll eat it and say what the heck? There’s a glass front so no hiding that you love Hollywood! :)

Sadly, this is one of the only places open late at night. CASHONLY! Atmosphere: This place is infested with random drunks, and ghetto people looking to get their fried chicken fix. Food: I got the 2 piece meal with mashed potatoes and a drink. Food is REALLY cheap, but you get what you pay for. The chicken is small and flavorless. The skin is at least nice and crispy, but it still tastes like garbage. The mashed potatoes come in a small cup used for raita at indian stores(like 4 spoonfuls) thankfully its small, b/c it tastes like my little cousin made them(she’s 3 and likes to eat glue). They tasted really starchy and nasty and like actual glue. GOFORTHEFRIESINSTEAD. After eating, I was happy to be finished, but still hungry, not only does it taste bad, but it still doesn’t satisfy any craving or hunger you have. I WASSOBER at the time, so I was actually able to taste the disappointment the chicken felt while iit was being cooked…

Went here for some late night drunchies after a weeknight excursion to Barcade right around the block. Got some fried chicken and fries around 130am and it was pretty solid from what I remember. Definitely satisfied my late night cravings but of course I paid for it the next day… Wasn’t too long of the wait and the fellow clientele of Hollywood Chicken definitely helped the wait speed by.
