I am a regular here, and I can tell you the food never disappoints. My go-to is miso soup, a salmon avocado roll, edamame, and the chocolate lava cake(trust me when I say it’s the best cake I’ve ever had). You can’t beat Honshu!

My absolute FAVORITE&GOTO sushi restaurant for six years now. Everything I have tasted here is FRESH and excellent. The service is wonderful, cocktails are strong, udon is savory/spicy an sushi is fresh and flavorful. Atmosphere is very clean & soothing. Outside seating is available, as well as vegan and veg options. My favorite dish is Kimchee yaki udon Favorite sushi entrée is the spring bag roll, it’s also the cheapest. A must try !

Love this place! I definitely make it here at least once every two weeks. The ambiance, the service and the food are all amazing. I love to order the Nameko Miso Soup, the Sweet Potato Tempura Rolls, and the Vegetable Tempura dishes. I am a Vegetarian, and there are many different options to chose from. I highly recommend Honshu!

Have you ever had one of those days where you’re craving something like sushi, but feel too lazy to go and get it? Yeah, that was me. At the time, I was staying in a corporate apartment nearby and was happy to see Honshu delivered to our high rise. With 2 and 1-year-old boys in tow, I didn’t want to load up the stroller, ready the diaper bag, and start walking everywhere for food.(I traveled with them solo and was tired.) Honshu was fairly speedy to get my sushi rolls to my room.(Thanks for coming up to the 38th floor!) I have no complaints about the tastiness of the food, because it was good. The price wasn’t horrible either.

Honshu could very well be my new fave Japanese restaurant in Jersey City. I usually hit up Teppan, but because the weather has been nicer I’m finally feeling motivated to walk the extra five minutes or so to places that I haven’t tried yet. Honshu was so great that I’ll come back, even if it’s cold. They haven’t been in this location for long, and it’s apparent that the space is brand new. It’s modern and beautifully decorated. I love how the bar is made out of stone, and the blue lighting gives off a super sleek feel. I’m not the biggest sushi eater, so I usually judge a Japanese restaurant off of whatever else they’ll serve me. Although Sushi House in Hoboken has the best selection of ‘non sushi’ items, Honshu can definitely keep up. The’ve got a bunch of tasty sounding appetizer, salad and entrée options. I ended up with gyoza(because when do I not order gyoza) which was perfectly pan seared and stuffed with pork and veggies. For my dinner I went with chicken teriyaki. The portion size was very generous and the sauce was perfectly sweet and delicious. My boyfriend got sort sort of crazy tuna roll(but really, I think that is actually what it was called) and he scarfed it down. We ordered a bottle of pino which was fairly priced at 23 dollars. There was also a pretty massive drink menu with a bunch of cocktail and sake options. Because the restaurant has ample seating and space we didn’t wait long for a table or our food on a Friday night at prime dinner time which is always A+ to me. There was also lots of outdoor seating so I’ll definitely keep that in mind when I’m looking for a place to grab some lunch outside. Zero complaints Honshu, five stars for you!

This review is only for the delivery. Live down the road from this place and it’s super convenient to order from here. The longest I tend to wait is about 30mins max– and that’s on a Fri or Sat night. Now onto the food. I’m a bit of a sushi junkie, and tend to have it often. Honshu is a reliable source for this craving. I eat sushi a lot and love good, quality sushi. This place may not be mind-blowing, but it’s consistently delicious and the variety of signature rolls are good. Tend to order the spicy variety of rolls and have always been satisfied. Good stuff.

This place is a good sushi spot for Jersey City! It’s a large space so they can seat you quickly. The service is definitely slow so don’t expect a quick outing. The food is delicious, though. The tuna pizza appetizer is a must try! I just started eating these for the first time and this version was so tasty. The prices are decent and the quality is really good. They take special orders two days early for rammen. I think just for a limited time. Teresa was our waiter and she was so friendly and made good reccomendations! I would definitely come back here. They serve alcohol and have some quality beer choices to pick from.

What an incredibly pleasant surprise this place was! You can stop reading after the first sentence because I’ll say we are foodies from NY and have dined at a handful of great sushi spots including shuko and bond street(two of our favorites) 5 stars because we had every intention of having a mediocre sushi experience before hitting the road to upstate ny, and in stead, this happened. I asked the bartender if he knew anything about the fresh fish of the day for sashimi and sushi and he gave us a few great recommendations then asked the head chef came out. He asked us a few questions about our sushi preferences after showing us photos of fish caught earlier that day and telling us if their origins and the quality of the fish as well as his preferences. He then proceeded to us all of this fantastic sushi, each one more unique and delicious than the last! Wow! We will definitely be back here, chef Jason is a hidden jem!

My go to sushi spot in JC. Everything is always fresh and prepared properly. First started ordering off seamless and other reviews are true, they are always punctual. All of the staff work as a team and there’s a vibe of cohesiveness and attentiveness that shines here. When I walk in I catch the employees smiling! We can sit wherever we want and are free to stay as long as we want. Towels are brought over immediately and menus are handed out. Drink order is taken; it’s as if the servers have ESP to my unspoken dining needs without ever being overbearing. I am obsessed with the service here. Ambiance, check. Service, check. But, you ask, how is the food? Simply the best sushi in Jersey City. It’s a bold statement I’m prepared to make. My favorite is the uni. It’s so sweet and custardy tasting I dream about and crave it nonstop. The fatty tuna is always marbled and watery, very delicious. The salmon here is always consistently good quality. Have tried many rolls, my personal faves are the K roll and fashion roll. Looking forward to trying new items. Non sushi items. Crab and cucumber salad is large enough to share and is light, refreshing and just creamy enough. I’m on the fence of sharing my ultimate fave.. . But. .. It’s the shishito peppers with yuzu salt. Have had and can recommend the stir fry and udon noodles. Miso cod and squash soup are stand out items. I am going to continue coming and look forward to my few times a month I come here. A gem in Jersey City.

Oh Honshu, how I missed you so. I moved away from JC last year and heard that they moved to a new location. Decided to stop in and check it out before meeting with friends in Hoboken that night. Circling for street parking in the area was a pain as always, but we eventually squeezed our way into a spot after ten minutes– lucked out as it was only one block away. First thing to note is how much bigger their space is compared to before! Good for them! Plenty more seats to accommodate more guests in. They also have a full serviced bar now so no more BYOB. Since we had plans to have a drink post-dinner, I didn’t bother checking the drink menu, but I’m sure we’ll return again to meet with friends for a drink here at some point. Very glad that even with the cosmetic makeover, it is still the same old Honshu we knew and loved at their smaller location! We saw some familiar faces as well as some new ones on staff– they were super busy this night, but they were still accommodating and attentive. The food was as consistent as before. And when I say consistent, I mean still delicious. HADTO start with their Signature dish, Spicy Tuna Tartare! I looked around and saw the other tables also starting out with this as well. We all reacted the same way– looove that torched, spicy, saucy goodness! My boyfriend and I have tried Tuna Tartare at other places, but we truly can’t get it like this anywhere else. Happy to be back! As for our main course, I went with the Chirashi, assorted sashimi over sushi rice. My boyfriend went with the Otsu combo, a spicy California roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy tuna roll. Both of our meals came with miso soup– a nice addition, as always. Ended the night with some fried ice cream for dessert. They had matcha green tea as a flavor… Always say yes to matcha green tea. Soooo yummy! Needless to say, we left pleased and full. What more can you ask for? Thank you, Honshu, for yet another amazing dinner. I’ll need to find another excuse to come back soon.

Honshu food is really fresh and they have a friendly staff. I Strongly recommend the Omakase, chefs choice or(tasting). Honshu has 3 price ranges, $ 50, $ 80& $ 100. Jason, always make sure you get the fresh picks of the day for your tasting. They have also started doing Ramen, but you’ll need to make reservations in advance(2 – 3) days in advance. IT“S GOOD!

Came here on a Weds evening around 5:30ish. It was pretty empty cept 1 other table however they did just open for the evening. We were quickly seated. Nice décor and atmosphere. We were greeted by a waiter with warm hand towelettes, which were really nice, so extra brownie points. And he explained it was during happy hour so there was another menu for cheaper sushi for like 2 hours, another bonus. So we honestly did the most basic rolls cause we werent really crazy and the happy hour rolls were cheap. I did the spring warm roll(at least I think that was what it was called) and it was pretty good. Im usually eh about warm sushi, but it was well made. It basically was an eggroll inside a sushi. My SO did like cali rolls, spicy tuna & just tempura. And all were so basic, that you couldn’t really mess it up. However, the spicy tuna was not good. It has a super weird and funky fishy taste as you ate it and bad after taste. But the customer service was so amazing, that I will definitely be returning when I am in a sushi mood so I can actually get a variety of their menu.

The best place in jersey! I come from the city to eat here all the time! You should definitely try the«the chef tasting» the range is between 50 – 100! But totally worth it. Tastes like the fancy Japanese restaurant in the city where I have to make reservations one month in advanced.

Dinner for 2; Tuesday night, after happy hour. Very nice place, probably more for the business professionals than tourists but as tourists we didn’t feel out of place. Generous portions, tasty selections, great spicy tuna rolls(according to the wife). Udon was average. A tad pricey but not outrageous. About 2.5 blocks from the Exchange Place waterfront, not a bad walk.

This place definitely will keep you coming back. Their apps are fantastic, we had repeats of the fried octopus, and the oysters are served so crafty, with a sauce of their own. The sushi was okay. The apps and the drinks killed it! Mr. Q and Lychee martini were delish. Sitting by the water sipping on a nice martini eating oysters… Can’t get better than that

So I’ve ordered from Honshu a couple of more times after my first review and decided to upgrade their rating to 5 stars. Why? Well, they’ve upped their seamless game by continuously staying within the estimated time for pickup/delivery. Second, I realized that they have some pretty fresh raw seafood– and give a generous amount in their rolls! The Maki deluxe is a two-mealer for me. Eat half for lunch, save half for dinner. Honshu has become my go-to whenever I order out for lunch(I usually pack). A mid-point between healthy and indulgence: d

Honshu has always been my go to for my Seamless sushi, why its taken me this long to try it out in person is beyond me. They have a swanky new location right off of Greene Street that is quite spacious with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Aside from the obvious, there are quite a few perks of dining at the actual restaurant rather than ordering in. For one, they have complimentary green tea(win!) and they have a slightly different variation of the menu. Honshu offers a «High 5» appetizer menu that offers various appetizers for just 5 dollars. We started our meal off with the fried baby squid and the chicken wings. I was expecting a tiny portion considering the price but in terms of appetizers it was pretty generous. The baby squid came out first, each were hot and crisp and beautifully displayed. Each piece was seasoned to perfection and had a very thin and slight crispy coating — make sure you give it a spritz of lemon for the burst of additional flavor. Wings were solid, My favorite roll of the night was the XX. I have to give it to Honshu they really know how to please the eye, their plating is just simply beautiful — almost to beautiful to eat, almost. I’m pretty upset that I can’t remember the name of the roll, but I can at least describe it. at first glance it looked like a large piece of squid. But upon further inspection stuffed inside each sliced calamari ring there was a small sushi roll — what?! Drizzled on top was spicy mayo and tobiko, must try! The chewiness from the squid in combination with the sushi roll was just great. To top off the meal we went with the matcha crème brûlée. It was beautiful and the matcha and custard flavor were married beautifully, but it would have been so much better if it were served at at least room temperature. The custard was chilled and as a result was extremely thick tasting.

*Delivery* I ordered Honshu from Unilocal on a Thursday for lunch for a group of 7 people. The order was placed around 11:30am and it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. 5 stars for the lunch specials! I got the salmon special and it tastes as good as it looks. The fish was unbelievably fresh and I loved the fact that there was sushi and a roll. *Note to the wasabi sensitive, there is wasabi in the middle of the sushi, so be sure to request it without wasabi if you don’t like it! The ginger dressing for the salad was also very good. I liked how they put it in it’s own little container so it wouldn’t spill over the bag. As for everyone else’s order, the main entrée of the rolls were correct and none were missing(thank god). The only tiny mistake they made was giving a miso soup side instead of a salad side for one of the orders. I’ll definitely be ordering again!

*spicy tuna tartare appetizer(so good!!! Our favorite appetizer. It tastes different than how they originally made it; the sauce tastes spicier; regardless the tuna itself is delicious!) *chilean seabass(OMG!!! AMAZE-BALLS! they said it was a half hour wait for this dish. It didn’t feel like a half hour but it doesn’t really matter. The fish was perfectly cooked. Flakey, soft, sweet and salty and anything and everything you’d expect in seabass. The bok choy was a nice compliment to the fish on this plate. And thank god this dish comes with a bowl of rice because this girl cannot live without her rice. I can eat this all day!!) This newly designed Honshu is great. I love the open and modern layout. The bar is super cute. Lighting is great. The outdoor patio is nice but you don’t have much of a view. Food is the same but the service for some reason is not as good as I remember from the original Honshu. Let’s talk about the bathroom. The toilet paper is like 10 feet away from the toilet and it’s BEHIND the toilet. Wtf! Change the mount to put the paper right next to me on the wall. My short arms can’t reach and you think«handicapped» people who use this toilet can reach the paper?! omg. haha. Anyway, I’m glad the expanded their space. Will be back to get some more of the seabass and tuna tartare!

This place moved from 31 Montgomery St to a much bigger and more beautiful spot. This was my go to sushi restaurant in Jersey City and still is it’s the same management and employees that still run the business. The ambiance of the new Honshu is beautiful. They have a nice size bar with a TV and the dining area is much bigger then the previous spot. And now they have outdoor seating which is a nice option. The staff is always friendly and the sushi is always fresh. Do to the nice lunch specials they draw Big lunch crowds during the week. I love the spicy tuna tartare, it’s one of their signature appetizers. The only thing I miss about this place that the old Honshu had, is BYOB. No more BYOB it’s a bummer but definitely not a big deal because their sushi is that delicious. It is pretty tough to park around there too.
