I love hopscotch. Shuffleboard, friendly staff, good beer selection and grub, always worth dropping in.

I had high hopes for this place. It seemed like a very cool atmosphere. It took 45+ minutes for a grilled cheese and it still was not up to snuff. Despite being asked for an accommodation, it appears that it was not honored(for food that was improperly prepared). I unfortunately did not realize this until after I left. Needless to say, I do not think I will return. Good luck if you try otherwise.

There was no one here on Saturday around 3pm, but my boyfriend and I had a great time. We played connect 4, and we had a few good craft beers. Their cheese plate was also plentiful, too. We have also ordered out their grilled cheese, which is delicious.

I’ve always had a great time here, so I’ve always wondered where the average rating is coming from. I usually come for drinks and order a few appetizers. For quick bites — the fire wings are just that, and the short rib poutine is impressive. They have an excellent beer selection, and they also have dart boards and board games that anyone can use. I’ve been here when they’ve had live music, and they also have a trivia night. It’s never been crowded when I’ve gone, service has always been very friendly, and there’s not much more to say! If you’re in the Exchange Place area, it’s a quick hop(pun intended?) and is definitely worth it.

Just tried the new pumpkin coffee, it is awesome. The owner is always attentive with me and my husband as well as the servers and bartenders

This place sucks, and that’s why it is always empty. The staff is always in a bad mood, and the place just feels cheap and dead.

We have been coming here on and off for about a year. Service was always«okay» as was the food/drinks(though good beer selection). We had high hopes as the place is large and we were once told they were looking forward to Premier League season to bring in soccer fans. Even selling us on «we’re going to have an Irish breakfast». We returned more for American football as they never opened early enough for soccer fans. Service has been consistently slow but not in the«we’re busy» sort of way, more like out of sight out of mind way. Last week however will be our last visit until the attitude of the«owner» changes and food is safely made. Ordered wings as we do every visit and noticed something was«off» and the chicken was very chewy. Immediately realized with better lighting that the chicken was NOTCOOKED fully, not even close. The waitress was incredibly kind and apologized, taking an additional order. We recognize these things happen to all restaurants. However, the«owner» came by and stated this is how the wings are supposed to be and stood by this, not apologizing nor showing any concern. HopsScotch — we are not idiots, we eat your wings 1x a month or more during football season and also know undercooked meat. Your lack of consideration by your owner has lost our business until you show otherwise via reviews and otherwise that you actually care about your customer, specifically FOODSAFETY. Individual who ate said 1.5 sad wings, did end up with nausea. Yes, they were are supposed to be that way. Don’t worry the HopsScotch traditional sauce will hide the bacteria from growing.

Great beer selection and they offer flights. Connect 4 at every table. Believe they have darts and other bar games but I didn’t partake. Didn’t try the food. Service wasn’t the friendliest but OK. I came here with just my roomie but I think this place is best for larger groups. It was surprisingly deserted on a Friday evening so might actually be a great venue to bring a group of friends.

HopsScotch is a place I used to go to once in awhile back when I lived in Jersey City. It’s a prototypical craft beer bar with a good number of taps and a bar menu. It was always a good option but I was never crazy about it either at the same time. One of the main reasons is the layout of the space. It’s too big and cavernous without it getting packed. This leaves the vibe of the place dead, think like a hotel bar. If you come here with a few friends for food that isn’t as big a deal, but if you’re coming just to drink or alone then it doesn’t work as well as other places nearby. Maybe that isn’t a fair critique as it’s only based on a few visits, but that’s just my opinion. Service was pretty good though; even though not every single person is a beer expert they are at least pleasant. Tap lines were definitely clean here which is a big place. They had London Pride on tap too which didn’t hurt. The variety was good for a beer bar(20+ taps) but still it didn’t quite stand out. Again if you’re looking for a beer bar this will work. Happy hour specials are good and they also have events sometimes too. Just don’t expect Rattle N Hum.

Generally, a great business model: board games, etc. available; Large beer menu, many complete unknowns! Food was fair … bar-like in general, so fills the void. A bit on the pricey side though, particularly the craft beers. Great for a big, fun group.

I have lived in JC a few years and never came to hopscotch. From outside this place looks a bit like chain, but it is not. It’s got a local sports bar with a side of dive feel to it. Every table even has a Connect Four or Jenga game on the table. But my friend I went there to have a few of their many beers and some snacks for a day out and about. The beer selection was massive — one of the biggest I have seen in JC — and the good was great. We went during a slow time, so it’s hard to tell it’s usual vibe but their events board was full and seems like it keeps it social there.

Hopscotch seems like a great time, I just don’t think that I came in at the right time. Let me elaborate– It was a Saturday night at around 11:30ish. I had a few friends visiting my new place and we were looking to go out and get our drank and dance on. I’d heard the name HopsScotch thrown around a few times, but had never been before and decided to venture over with the group. Hops is a massive space and appears to be newly renovated. Drinks are 3 dollars off after ten, there is ample seating and every table has connect four(whatttaa blast from the past). Yet, amidst all of this awesomeness the bar was completely vacant on a Saturday night. I’m talking like really deserted… as in the 5 of us were the only patrons in the bar. Cheap gin and tonic and connect four were definitely able to hold my attention for a bit but after a while we were ready to head somewhere more lively. I’ll venture to guess that HopsScotch is an ideal setting for a happy hour, bar food fixe or Sunday game day. I’m sure I’ll be here often during football season, and I’m already planning on coming in for the Southern Tier tap takeover in a few weeks. Just don’t expect me to see here on a weekend night– wayyyy too snooze worthy.

Don’t be fooled by the 3 stars — this place is pretty good. I’ve been a few times and would come back again. It’s not terrible, but it needs work to get a 4th star. PROS — Games galore! — Shuffle board, Darts, Connect Four, Jenga, Monopoly, etc. — Big Beer Selection — Lots of tables/lots of standing room — Several TVs to watch sports — Food is decent CONS — Service was not so great. Not many people were there, but our server was too busy talking to the bartender to get us our check. We walked over to him to ask for it. Then he never even came to pick it up. Had to walk over to him again to hand it to him. Really bad service on his part. — Half of the beers I asked to try weren’t available. The first two I asked about they didn’t have. — Food is only decent If they can fix 2 of the 3 cons, this place would get 4 stars. It’s got lots of TVs so a good place to catch a sports game and hang with friends. I’ll go to any bar that has shuffle board/darts/jenga!

I’ve been here 3 times, and the past 2 times the service has been noticeably disorganized. I really like this place overall. I like the homey atmosphere, the huge tap selection and the price point of the food and beer. However, I think whoever manages this place is missing the mark on organizing and scheduling their staff. I went here last night(a Friday at around 7:30) and there seemed to be only one waitress for the entire bar area. The place wasn’t exactly packed, but it was still pretty busy and I felt so bad for our waitress. With the exception of a couple food runners she really had no help, so it took forever to get our food and drinks. Last time I was here on a Wednesday night with a friend. It took forever for our waiter to take our order, and then our main dishes came out before our appetizer. Luckily they were easy going about just canceling the appetizer, but it was still disappointing. Bottom line… don’t go here if you’re in a rush! Next time I’ll plan to just sit at the bar.

The HopsScotch pub focuses on specialty beers, so don’t go in looking for a Bud Light or even a Stella Artois. But you should know they do also have wine, and some hard liquor drinks. The space is oddly located inside a building lobby shared with a Five Guys Burger and Fries, which is good if you want a post-drinking Bacon Burger. The pub space itself is unfortunately laid out quite poorly, making it difficult to navigate or do the traditional Jersey«loop» around the entire bar. Service was really good, though the wait staff just needs a bit more education about the massive beer menu.

I’ve been here twice and think it’s okay in terms of variety of beer and quality of food. The food I’ve had(tots and short rib poutine) was very good and the service I received. What wasn’t great the second time I went was when I ordered an IPA that said it was a 12 ounce pour and it was served in Chimay goblet, expertly poured exactly to the 25CL line. Which is all fine and good, but 65CL is only 8.45 ounces. I’ve had plenty of beers served in that quantity, I’ve been to Belgium, I’ve seen beers offered as an 8+ oz. pour. I spoke to my waiter about it and he talked to the manager, who told him to tell me I was wrong, that the glass held 12 ounces. Okay, if you fill it to the very top, I agree you could probably get 12 ounces in there, but when it’s filled EXACTLY to the line on the glass itself that is 25CL, I don’t agree that I’ve been served a 12 ounce pour. I used to drink a lot of Delirium tremens, frequently advertised and served as a 25CL serving so I’m familiar with the glass and the size. I spoke to the manager and she again told me I was wrong and I asked her to show me a 12 ounce pour in a goblet. To her credit, she did pour a bottle of Chimay(which is slightly over 11 ounces) into the glass and although it fit, it filled it to the rim. My comment was that if my original beer had been served that way, i wouldn’t have said anything. But when you have the measurements on the glass itself and the beer is poured expertly to that measurement line, please don’t tell me I’m wrong and that 8.45 ounces of beer and a half an inch of head is a 12 ounce pour. It’s not. And please don’t tell me I’m wrong because I’m not stupid and even though America isn’t on the metric system, I drink enough beer to know what 25CL is. Like I said, she did subsequently give me a 12 ounce pour and I appreciate that, but the whole process of jumping through hoops just to get what was printed on the menu left a bad taste in my mouth, metaphorically, since the beer was great. Plus, I’m not going to pay $ 7 for 8 ounces of IPA, even if it is Ballast Point. I would not go back, but don’t let my negative experience stop you from trying it.

Went here for a casual lunch with a business partner. I’ve been here before with a group of friends for a happy hour but this was my first time trying the food. Not bad! I ordered the oven dried tomato grilled cheese with a side of sweet potato fries. The grilled cheese was awesome. The touch of pesto combined with the smoked Brie was sooo good. The sweet potato fries complemented it really well. My business partner ordered the BLAT(savory thick cut of bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, spicy aioli). Sounds crazy good, right? Well apparently it was. She basically fawned over her sandwich after every two or three bites. I was about to grab it out of her hand haha. We both got sides with our dishes – she ordered the salad and said it was good. The ambiance is pretty casual and a good place for a happy hour. Just started a new job and I’ve been invited to a few happy hours here already but haven’t had the chance to go yet so I’m not sure what those are like just yet. Saw a connect four game board on one of the tables. I assume there’s other game boards lying around somewhere. Good way to keep groups entertained while boozing a bit. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a boozy lunch by any means. But next time, I will definitely have to try a beer to pair with my meal(I got my eye on the delirium noel). OOOOH and the hopsscotch burger(roasted garlic, Carmelites onions, hopsscotch beer cheese sauce) sounds divine!

Food poisoning alert! What has happened, change of crew in the kitchen? I go here rather often as it is so close to where I stay when in NYC, as I did yesterday. Staff still nice and friendly, splendid beer selection but the food. Yuk! Got fish and chips that was like a wet towel. Changed it to a Caesar and the F&C was removed from my tab without any fuzz. Sallad was ok, barely. The sardelles are suposed to be in the dressing, not on the side of the plate. Spent the rest of the night bent over the toilette.

Darts, board games and shuffleboard. Need I go on? A very chill atmosphere with games, that’s all I ever ask for. Decent beer selection & waiters were very friendly. A place I would def come back to when I’m in JC.
