I was so shocked at how incredible this little restaurant was. Authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. I went for breakfast with my family and all of our plates looked equally appetizing. I had the steak and eggs plate. Slammin’. Last but not least: OMGTHECOFFEE! If you are Latino, you know how passionate we are about coffee.

Good food, clean place, friendly staff. Which is the same I can say about the heights Spanish restaurants. There are just so many and many people are regulars to there favorite places. My parents and niece like coming here when rumbas a couple blocks up is too crowded. Food is fresh and made to order. And it is very easy on your pocket.

Whenever I need a Spanish home-cooked meal, I come here. Their breakfast and main entrees are fantastic! Hearty and seasoned well!

I’m not sure why this place is rated so highly. The good: The staff were very nice. The place seemed low key and clean. There were lots of local patrons during dinner time yet still plenty of space and no wait to be seated. The Not so great: I really didn’t Love the food. I’ve had much better Puerto Rican food at other joints in Jersey city. I guess I was just expecting much higher quality food for the raving reviews that this place got. I ordered the common dishes from what I saw in the photos other Unilocalers posted. I tried the mofongo with shrimp. I’m not sure why people love this dish. The sauce is super orange looking. It just looks super unnatural. Also ordered the skirt steak which was ok but pretty ordinary. Overall nothing that I would go back to eat again. The prices were very reasonable. $ 40 for both dishes.

I gave this place 5 stars. Just so people can see my review. In reality rhey deserve none! First off the service is horrible, 10mins to get greeted, another 15 to get 3 drinks and 2 empanadas, as we were sitting waiting for our entrees we were greated by two roaches we told the waiter and she just slapped them on the wall as if it was nothing i had to get up and leave.

WHUTTTTT!!! I did not write a review about my favorite place in the WERLD??? I LOVE IT HERE! First — BYOB Second — BYOW(ine) The service is GREAT, the food is BEYOND reasonably priced. I went with the bf, his mom… 41 dollars, people. 3 apps, 3 main w/3 avocado salads = 41 dollars The taste of the food??? *Kisses fingertips* SOFLIPPINGOOD! no matter what you get, it is a done deal and delicious! We ate until we were sad… and we brought food home… and ate the rest. I always get the fried snapper filled with crab meat. Far from healthy, farther from a small dish but somehow never enough. Oh — even the hot, garlic/butter buns they pretty much SHOVE down your throat *looks around* okay… I shove. is ridiculous. And I am not a *baked goods* person. Once I stopped by for breakfast??? Phhhtttt Two words — Fried Cheese *drops mic* This place is stupid good. If you ever go — hit me up, is what I am saying

Amazing food and service. The food and atmosphere is extremely authentic. You’ll forget you’re in Jersey! Extremely homey feeling, and Puerto Rican authentic ambience. The owner of the business is also a really polite, humble and sweet woman who tries her best to please her customers. Favorite Puerto Rican spot for sure

Excellent Puerto Rican Home Cooking. I’ve been here a few times. It’s really a fantastic find. All the food is very well prepared. I’ve had the chicken and the fish. Both, very good. They offer daily specials. Service = 9 Food = 10 Prices = 9

Wait Over a half and hr for some beef and maduros. I just left. No explaining at all on why. Bad business there was only 3 people in there who was finished eating!

Great Puerto Rican spot. They have a rotating menu of daily specials as well as a la carte items. Large portions, great prices, great flavor. If you are ever in the heights, you should stop by. Personal favorite is the pernil. For $ 8, they give you A LOTTT.

PEOPLEALWAYSCOMPLAINING! Anyway, its good food at a great price. I eat breakfast every Saturday morning or so and never had a HUGE issue. People expect 5 Star treatment at a local restaurant, stop being so selective. I enjoy this place and recommend it often.

Cuban sandwich was awesome, but a little concerned with the sanitary factor of this restaurant. I saw one woman take meat out of the pan with her bare fingers and she also touched the empanadas with her bare fingers to see if they were warm. carrots cut straight on the counter(no cutting board). kind of gross, but didn’t stop me from eating my sandwich haha.

Came here here with another couple on a Saturday afternoon… The place was pretty busy but although it was busy service was quick… We ordered a couple of things as an appetizer… We ordered cuchifritos. We got some fried pork, stuffed potatoes, morcillas, and pasteles en hoja it was delicious and very tasty. As entrée I got some rice and beans with steak and sauteed onions, I loved it –it wasn’t greasy like most Latino restaurants, Hubby got some churrasco with mofongo I was so jealous I should of ordered that … I had a few bites and it was made just right. The other couple got pernil w rice and gandules, and arroz con pollo, I didn’t try it but it looked good and they said it was magnificent… Good inexpensive food for the appetizers and entrees along with some natural juices the bill came up to $ 70… Unbelievable, the bill barely comes up to that for 2 people is usually more… When in Jersey City I will definitely come again.

I’ve met the owner, she is really nice and treated us really well when she took care of us. I don’t think she knows how her restaurant is being managed. Again the food is great but if you are looking to have a somewhat quick lunch, look elsewhere.

Been here a few times both take out and dining in. This place definitely has a good variation on their menu along side their daily specials. With so many Latin places to eat on central this is probably one of the better places to go to. I’ve had their empanadas which are decent. Their mofongo is pretty yummy, a little too salty but overall good. I think it’s really the only place I’ve been able to find mofongo on central. If I’m wrong, please tell me cause I would love to try someone else’s as well. I definitely don’t come here enough and would come back to try other plates from their menu. The service is decent. When I did dine in, we may have been a bit rushed, but we had also sat there for more than 2 hours. They do not deliver, great prices, and it’s byob, which is a plus. Overall, pretty good place to come eat.

Awesome little Puerto Rican restaurant. Visited this morning for breakfast and it was well attended. Friendly and fast service. Food is good too. I had the eggs, bacon, and potatoes. The potatoes are cooked with tomatoes in a style different than a diner. It’s actually quite nice. Check it out if you’re in the area. Two doors down from the dreaded JCPA.

This place has come a long way from when it first opened. My boyfriend and I come here at least once a week for dinner. Very good food at very affordable prices. We used to be glued to Sabrosos next door, but find ourselves coming here a lot more now. The staff is also very friendly and attentive, def a plus.

There are tons of Spanish restaurants in the Heights. One on every corner actually! There are a couple of excellent ones in the area and Isla Bonita is one of them. Standard daily menu that every Spanish restaurant has but Isla has a twist. They offer specials that run everyday throughout the week. The baked chicken, white rice, black bean special is the best. Great food, huge quantity, and all for $ 5.50. Service isn’t as bad as every makes it out to be. My only issue is that I don’t speak Spanish and it always seems that I get the one waitress that doesn’t speak a word of English. Oh well, the food is worth it and some of the waitresses are pretty hot– so I deal… :) Have Fun
