Liquor store and deli combined in one?! YESPLEASE! One stop shop. I have tried many of the sandwiches on the menu and they were all delicious. The guys who run the place are super friendly and know all the regulars. If you are ever in the heights, you should stop by and visit this place.

I love this place! Great breakfast and lunch sandwiches at a good price. One stop shop for liquor and food. Their lunch sandwiches comes with pickles and chips. All the sandwiches are delicious, can’t go wrong with whatever you decide to order. They also have prepared foods that you can purchase by weight.

Stopped by tonight, I love the spaghetti with broccoli rabe, I had their eggplant tonight, heated it up and it was delicious. The rice pudding is excellent, I have to get it anytime I stop in.

I get my coffee there every work day and because i work nearby i go back for seconds! I also buy at lest 2 bottles of wine a week. Their prices are pretty reasonable. Craig, Mike, Angelo are always willing to help if you have any questions or would like a suggestion. Their sandwiches, hot food and soups are some of the best you’ll find on Central Avenue. They also have a wide variety of beers to choose from as well as liquor.

This place is not what you expect. It is not the most glamorous place, but the food is great! It’s fun going here, and the guys who work there are a blast to chat with.

Neighborhood gem! I’ve had the GodFather and Michael J Fox sandwiches –excellent. Egg sandwiches on those mornings I needed ‘em hit the spot in a way you need a greasy sandwich too. From the hot counter, I was really impressed w/the fried shrimp and chicken cutlets… from the cold counter the potato salads, beets, and broccoli rab are solid. Those items are on their own not all mixed together. They also make their own cold cuts on premises they don’t do thumans or boars head. All in all great place and they guys behind the counter are always a trip. Beer and wine selection is good too.

The deli section is good, I just wish they wore gloves when they made my food and handled money with the customer before me, who knows where those dollar bills have been?

Podewitz is the shizz. It has been in Jersey City since the beginning of time– well, since I was in diapers. You want mutz. Podewitz has mutz. You want a sandwich that isn’t going to empty your wallet, Podewitz has those. Low on wine? Step on in. Need some coffee while you’re fixing your car? Come on over. Breakfast sandwich? Bingo. Olives? Olive oil? Great case of pre-made goods. There is nothing this place cannot do well. This is a gem on Central Ave. So if you’re in the hood, stop on over. It’s old school, the dude who runs it is a nice italian gentleman. He also makes good coffee.

From the outside this place looks like your standard Jersey City liquor store, but as soon as you enter you see a slamming deli section, a refrigerated section with goodies like greek yogurt and somewhat fancy cheese, and of course the wine and liquor section. The sandwich selection is impressive, and they have good bagels(but I don’t like the cream cheese they use on their bagels because it tastes funny). Most impressive are their wine prices which are a buck or two cheaper than most other liquor stores in the area.

Good food, good service, and good prices. I always come here for their cod, salmon and sides. Podewitz is the place to go for fresh and delicious food at a reasonable price.

The deli is very attractive on the outside and inside, however, they do not wear gloves when slicing your cold cuts. They touch the money and refuse to wear gloves. Very unheathly and unsanitary conditions. «Don’t judge a book by its cover»

I just ate out Sharon Stone. Now before you get all Basic Instinct on me with an ice pick and start yelling, «That old hag» let me just state that Sharon Stone is a sandwich. And what a sandwich it is: chicken on a French roll, with swiss cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, and all drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Add a bag of chips and a pickle slice and you’re good to go. And all this is $ 5.75. Awesome? Yes it is. Jealous? Yes you are. There is a huge sandwich board that hangs above the counter, and all the sandwiches are named after celebrities. You’ve got your Robert DeNiro, which consists of lots of Italian meats. You’ve got your Madonna, which consists of swiss cheese and turkey, I believe. And you’ve got your Denzel Washington, which is nothing but ham. From the outside it does look like your basic liquor store, because plastered on the windows are loads of pictures of beers, wines and liquers. But when you walk in, oh man oh man is it like nirvana. Now I’m from JC and there are a bunch of great, little Italian places around here, like Second Street Deli and Renata’s. But when it comes to getting your food to go, and fresh food at that, I may have to put Podewitz at the top. The fact that I can get fresh sandwiches, rice pudding, egg salad, pasta, meatballs, stuffed shells AND a bottle of Jameson’s puts it over the top. And the fact that I can have beauties like Oprah and Sharon Stone in my mouth for long periods of time.
