Manteca, Joe Dell Armi’s new restaurant at the old MAE location opened its doors tonight for a much anticipated Kickoff Party and it totally delivered. Those of us who attended were treated to a crafted cocktail menu of Dave’s Grade B Maple Syrup Old Fashioned;Katie’s Sailor Jerry Hot Apple Cider; Hot&Dirty Vodka Martini w/Pepper Infused Vodka; French 75 w/Gin & Fresh Meyer Lemon. There were several beers(yum that Breckenridge) and red/white wines as well. A small taste of the menu provided a window into some seriously delicious eats to come. The roasted garlic cannelini bean salad was creamy and cool while the Fennel Pollen Porchetta Ciabatta Sliders, deconstructed, were well seasoned with a wonderful balance provided by fennel to what is usually a savory dish, making it substantial and delicious. Marbled hazelnut cookies w/rock salt satisfied the sweet tooth. Exposed brick, open kitchen, giant(always feels repurposed wood/cement?) bar, ambient lighting and open glass doors made for an inviting locale. The atmosphere was warm and festive with a familiar yet new vibe. Much of the original staff is there… friendly, happy, familiar faces clearly excited about being there and this new venture they are embarking on. That sentiment was mirrored in the faces of the patrons who were looking forward to reclaiming/claiming that corner stool or table in this much needed neighborhood bistro. They are hoping to be open fully by Thanksgiving. Deets for upcoming events available on their Facebook page.
