Modern Sage is a gem in Jersey City. A great gift/​wellness shop with unique & beautiful items as well as a calming atmosphere. The owner really welcomes you, educates you on supplements and offers classes in meditation and alternative healing. I like going for JC Fridays to see the art and meet friendly people. You’d be missing out if you didn’t go!

i have gotten the best massage ever in my long history of getting massages from Paolo. He really gets into the nooks & crannies in a way no one ever has. Before this massage, I found it easier to just walk in to various oriental massage places to avoid the stress of having to schedule ahead with someone who wasn’t available when I needed an appt. However, it is so easy to book by e-​mailing Leah or as I leave that I’ve become a regular client. Recently, I wasn’t able to come when Paolo was available and got a massage from Mariah. She also gave me a wonderful massage, and is tied with Paolo for best massage ever. It’s also a beautiful, soothing environment. It’s handy to be able to pick up a gift or toiletry item from the carefully curated natural products Leah stocks in the store.

I can’t recommend Modern Sage highly enough! I had one of the best massages of my life here. It was incredibly relaxing, therapeutic, and rejuvenating. The staff is knowledgeable, experienced, friendly, intuitive and helpful. The prices are fantastic and there’s lots of great things to buy in the shop. I look forward to my next appointment.

For some reason I normally only write reviews for doctors offices and restaurants, but last night I had a massage with James at Modern Sage and it was hands down the best massage of my life. Massages are tough, too hard, too soft, too short, too long … its just tricky. I usually only go when the tension builds up in my shoulders so badly that I can’t sit at my desk without being uncomfortable. I scheduled it last week, told the owner (very sweet woman) I preferred a female tech but she convinced me to go to James. Well I’m SO glad I did. It was an hour of bliss, I feel amazing today, my knots are gone, I’m just a little sore (in a good way) — the music was perfect, the price was right and its a block from my apartment. Doesn’t get any better. I’ll definitely be back on the regular! HIGHLY recommended!

I saw on Facebook that Modern Sage was having a meditation class so I decided to do something for myself and go check it out. I was a little apprehensive because I had never taken a meditation class before but I showed up right after work and the owner Leah was very friendly and understanding of those of us first timers. This particular class was a special Tibetan Singing Bowl self healing class and they actually placed one of the bowls on my solar plexus to allow for the vibrations to resonate through the body. I really enjoyed it and will probably go back for another class. On the way out I bought some lavender/​patchouli candles, a mint spray for the breath and some raw food flax seed crackers which are really tasty! It feels good to support a local business that is open, friendly and helps us feel better!
