I only been here to try the custard cup. They are absolutely dreamy. Cheap, right amount of sweetness. Small local bakery that you got to support cause they make the custard cup homemade and staff is friendly

It’s like they can read my mind! Okay, maybe not but they probably figured out that new customers would most likely walk in looking for some of their famous egg tarts. This place was recommended to me by one of my Instagram followers from Boston. Neptune supposedly makes «the best» egg tarts. Are they the best… are they?! Well…
…I must admit – the egg tarts here are pretty darn good. In fact, I may go as far as to say that these are among the best I have ever had. The custard is rich and sweet to a point where you could still eat two, three, or four more. They are smaller than the ones you can get from Portuguese bakeries, though. What I like best about the egg tarts here is the fact that the edges are a bit thick and crispy. Most of the ones I’ve eaten previously are soft, but these buck the trend.
I underestimated this place because of the location; the building itself (on the corner of Neptune and JFK) doesn’t really stand out. The inside is the same thing; it’s just a basic bakery that sells an assortment of pastries, doughnuts, and a few Filipino products. The staff are kind and welcoming. Overall, I do think the egg tarts here deserve some praise. Are they truly «the best?» I’ll let you decide for yourself. Personally, I don’t mind coming back for another dozen.

Typical NJ bakery. Friendly staff. Good coffee and wide choices of pastries. If you come here, first thing to order is the custard. Always the custard. Order. The. Custard.

The best tarts! Can you open up a branch in New York City? Please??? My brother who’s usually in NJ was the one who introduced me to their tarts. They’re all good. My favorite is the coconut. Yum. I can eat 5 in one seating. The good part is they’re open 24h. They’re a must try. Addicting!

My rating is just for the empanada. Not enough seasoning and way too much hugely chopped green pepper. I was getting a chunk with every bite. The ladies are very nice though.

Egg. Tarts. I don’t know what else they serve, all I know is their egg tarts are highly addictive and seriously delicious… Oh and they’re 24 hrs so yeh egg tarts are available whenever

This place used to be a whole lot better, the only thing ill say is that their custard cups are sooooo good.

CONS OF THE STORE
I didn’t give them a 5 because their customer service is veryyyy inattentive, will ignore you and they have a $ 10 min for you to use a card. They also. Keep the pastry sat room temperature which personallyilike mystuff chilled.

I’m new to the area from Detroit and, like always, went searching on Unilocal for great places to try!
When I saw the listing for Neptune’s, there was nothing but love and adoration for the custard cups, which originally sounded so disgusting to me since I’ve never heard of it before.
Buttt when my boyfriend and I went in, I had a change of heart and decided to go ahead and try a custard cup when I purchased my orejas (palmeritas).
When I first bit into it, it was room temperature and wasn’t go great so I only took a bite and put it back in the bag so I could jump into my oreja. (Which was pretty good, not fresh and slightly hard, but still had great flavor and not too sweet)
But then, after putting it in the fridge for a few hours, I tried again… It was amazing (so was the left over oreja that I let chill with it). The crust was perfect and flaky. The custard was the perfect level of sweet and the mixture was amazing. I instantly wished i had gotten more (since then I have gone and got multiple at a time).
I can’t wait to take family to. Try it.

Like everyone else, I love their egg tarts! They’re always fresh and delicious. I’m not there often, but when I do, I try to make a pit stop for their tarts. If you’re lucky, you can get the tarts fresh out of the oven Unfortunately, I haven’t tried anything else from there. I’ll try to next time… maybe! Best of all, they are open ²⁴⁄₇.

This bakery is open 24 hours which is a huge plus considering the nearby places. I usually get sandwiches and pastries. I have never had any issues and the food is always fresh. I would recommend this bakery to anyone who lives in the area.

Egg custards are better than what I used to have in HK and Macau. Just super yummy and always freshly baked everyday. Keep it up!

First time I had the custard cups, they were awesome. I had a coworker bring them in.
I then decided my wife would like them and I bought two dozen. We ate some and then when we got to one, she spit one out and found bugs in them! No lie!

Sure, they have other pastries, rolls, bagels, cakes, coffee, sandwiches, drinks. Just about everything any other deli has.
But did I mention Custard Cups !!! Sure … you or I could make them any time of the day. But that takes time and effort. Buy them here and put the time and effort into eating them.

Childhood favorite! Custard cups is the way to go! The custard isn’t too sweet, but it also isn’t too bland. Plus the bakery’s open ²⁴⁄₇!

This is my very well kept secret, thanks to my cousins who live in the area. This is one of the best Portuguese custard tarts I’ve EVER had here in the U.S.
Everything is absolutely perfect about these custards, from the flavor to the texture. Words cannot describe how scrumptious and delightful they are! I always look forward to having this whenever I’m visiting the area!

Why does this place has to be so far from me? Maybe that’s why the tarts taste so much more delicious because of the extra effort I have to put in to get them.
The tarts are a dollar each but it’s worth it because of the yummy custard goodness and the crust is soft and the edges have a crunch but it doesn’t fall apart like other tarts I’ve tasted. This tart is definitely crumb free.
The flans here are good too and they come in cute little foil cups. I also bought a Filipino style empanada but I have yet to try it.

Are their baked products good here? Yes, and that includes the cannolis and cheesecake I’ve tried here randomly a few times.
BUT you go here for their egg custard cups. These must have crack in them because they are sooooo additively good. Whenever someone brings a bunch to a party I attend, they get destroyed, eaten, and disappeared from sight. You must try these custard cups, they are…

Thought I reviewed this place a while ago. Guess not. Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the custard cups… maybe because I’ve tried a great deal of them or something… I dunno… but the cannolis?
