I desperately needed a haircut before a trip. I called them for appointment and got one the very next day. Lady on the phone was very courteous, and explained that only an expert stylist was avilable that day(which would cost me $ 80), and asked if I was okay with that. I was and I booked it. When I reached the salon, I was greeted and was asked for refreshment. The salon is small, but very clean and decorated tastefully. My stylist — Gianna started on me exactly on time. She was polite and open, at the same time made jokes to make me comfortable. She really wanted to know what I wanted. My hair was waist length for last 3 years and I wanted to cut it short. After discussion, she suggested me to cut it medium short before going too short, and I agreed. I loved the cut when it was done(long layers, with shorter layers framing my face). You know you get that feeling of a model, when you get out of a salon ;) Other stylists were also very welcoming, and overall the place has a happy vibe. No reason to search for any other place as long as I’m in Jersey. Note: They accept credit cards, but tip is cash only(I read previous reviews).

Had an appt with Jackie. And as a male I can have trouble finding someone who knows how to cut and style thicker, curly/wavy male hair. The cost $ 45(with a range from $ 35 – 50 for men’s cuts depending on the qualification of the staff). This is a small yet efficient salon. I had a great experience, with your cut you get a «shape up» you can use to extent the ½ life of your cut. Over all great experience. Also Jackie’s personality was fantastic and I honestly believe her when she told me she really liked cutting men’s hair, «they always know what they want» … I’ll be back!

Nothing great. Not worth the cost. You can get similar haircuts much cheaper elsewhere.

I was looking to switch to a salon closer to home and came upon Shampoo JC. I just love the ease of booking online, receiving updates via email and text makes everything so much more organized. My first time I came in for balayage and a haircut from Jackie. I loved my cut although the color didn’t turn out to be what I requested. My second time around due to color inconsistency I came to see Gianna although I only got a cut. Gianna is amazing she gave my curls all their bounce back. She’s extremely knowledgable and very sweet. I will be back for all my hair care needs with Gianna!

Jasmarie gave me the best color I’ve ever gotten! She’s incredible at blonde balayage. I went in for traditional foil highlights, but after some discussion about transitioning to balayage, Jasmarie had me thoroughly convinced that switching to balayage was my best option. She didn’t disappoint! I walked out of the salon with insanely gorgeous color and a great long-layered cut. Good to know: they accept credit card for services, but cash tips only!

Francesca is awesome. She cuts and styles just the way u want it. They are little pricey but worth it. The cut includes blow dry as well.

This is my 2nd time at Shampoo. My first visit was with Alec, however, he is no longer working at the salon. My 2nd visit was with Christina. First, I booked an appointment for the consultation and after her feedback I booked an appointment for haircut/highlights. I was really nervous at first but she made me feel very comfortable. She is very pleasant and professional. I cannot thank her enough for such an amazing haircut and color. I have received SO many compliments, from my friends and my coworkers. I highly recommend her! I also want to note that all the staff was very pleasant and the salon has a great atmosphere(great artwork!).

I have been a regular to the salon as I live in the area and it is a pain to travel to the city on weekends for hair appointments. My first a couple experience was good and satisfactory(except for my haircut with Alec, who did an average job, but such arrogant attitude!) My most recent experience was a half-head balayage with Jackie, after which, I do not think I will return. First of all, she got so impatient and agitated when trying to understand what I wanted. Then she ruined my hair(by leaving the bleach for way too long) and it has been taking months for my hair to recover, which never fully did and I had to get haircut to get rid of the coarse hair. Second of all, agree with other reviewers, she was not skillful and gave me patchy, brassy ombré results. It wasn’t really an ombré. She sorta slathered tons of bleach on my head. I will never go back now and Jackie should not take any more clients for the salon.

Jackie is the best. She knows exactly what to do with my thick, unruly hair. She’s been a godsend for me and my hair!

Hudson County Curly Girls! No need to schlep into Manhattan and fork over a car payment for an AWESOME curly hair cut. See Jasmarie at Shampoo JC for the hookup.

This is one of the best saloons in New Jersey… Unilocal gives some offers on the salon but does not mention that it is only for the first time users and this creates a confusion. I went there the second time but still the person on the desk was so sweet that she considered it and gave me the off as a good gesture… Totally recommend the salon not sure about Unilocal though. Francesca was the one who did my hair cut and color and I’m in love with my hair… now she is going to be my permanent stylist… Must try.

I was trying to find a local salon that could give NYC quality service. Since Shampoo JC had the most number of reviews on Unilocal,I decided to walk in and have a consultation with whoever was available — which turned out to be FRANCESCA. She was very nice and I felt like she really understood what I wanted done, so I decided to take a chance with this salon. However, she wasn’t available til a couple of weeks out and I couldn’t wait that long. She assured me that JACKIE was more than capable of taking care of me and that she(Francesca) will be there on the day of my appointment to make sure Jackie knows and understands what she and I have talked about and agreed on. A week later(3⁄29), I was back for my appointment. Francesca was NOT in the salon. I was disappointed but thought that if Jackie was as great as Francesca said she was then I have no problem explaining what I want done again. I sit in the chair and showed Jackie photos of the cut I wanted and the color that I wanted. I told her that I wanted a long bob, and pointed a few inches below my collarbone to show her how long I want my hair to be. All through this she was nodding yes, and even said, «I know exactly what you want.» She then cut my hair in chunks and joked that she was done with the cut. I thought it was distasteful but just smiled. She then proceeded to cut off more chunks of hair(I thought she was done) and then — EVENMORE hair! This was when I asked her what she was doing. ONEHALFOFMYHAIRWASTHERIGHTLENGTHBUTTHEOTHERWASCHINLENGTH! She looked surprised that I was panicking. And then it slowly dawned on her that she cut off WAYTOOMUCH. She apologized of course, but the apology can’t really make me feel better. I didn’t have a choice but to have her continue and finish the cut(I’m not walking out with half short, half long, choppy hair) but to be honest, I just wanted to get out of there. I’m not one to make a scene but this is the first time in my entire life that I felt so upset/frustrated/disappointed/agitated about a haircut especially when: 1. I showed a photo of the length and color that I wanted. 2. I told her I wanted a LONG bob(how anyone can misunderstand this is beyond me) 3. I pointed with my finger exactly how long I want it, even saying it should be a couple of inches BELOWTHECOLLARBONE. Then Jackie had the audacity to say that it was a MISCOMMUNICATION. I don’t know what else I could’ve done to be any clearer! She then asked me to still let her color my hair. I refused because I simply CANNOTTRUST her anymore. This is when the floor manager walked up and apologized, asking if I would let the owner fix my hair, or they will give me a complimentary service when I come back, etc. Yes, I understand that they are trying to fix things but I am SOUPSET and I HATETHECUT so much(TOOSHORT and LAYERSARECHOPPY) that I WOULDN’T DARECOMEBACK. I really wanted to like Shampoo JC. I liked Francesca. Maybe if she was the one doing my hair, I would’ve been singing praises instead. Oh and I’d also like to mention that one of the girls in the salon(the one with silver/grey hair) was telling Jackie in a VERYANNOYED voice, «She’s done. Just let her go.»(note that Jackie still needed to «polish» the cut) She probably thinks I didn’t hear her. To me that just speaks volumes of how she treats clients. At least Jackie sounded like she was sorry and was trying to fix it. Though it still doesn’t change the fact that EACHTIME I look in the mirror and see this HORRIBLE cut, I will be reminded of this AWFUL experience. Needless to say, I will NEVER step foot in there again.

I recently got a haircut at Shampoo JC. Jackie did a pretty good job with my haircut. I liked how she had an idea about the kind of haircut I wanted. The place is neat and tidy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back.

I will definitely recommend this salon 100% BTW it’s not only of those salons that your appointment is at 3 and three hours later you are still there. I had a great haircut with the owner Jasmarie last week. My best friend gets her hair cut here, so I took her recommendation for the salon. I saw a lot of Unilocalers said that Jasmarie is great with curly hair, so I scheduled an appointment with her. I normally get my haircut and highlights on the UES, but I was just looking to get a haircut so I tried here bc it’s local. I have really thick, long, wavy/curly hair, that I wear both curly and straight. Jasmarie went over with me how much length I wanted off, if I want to be able to blow dry straight, the kind of layers I wanted and she was also super gentle, and so nice and professional. My hair feels so much lighter now, and looks great both curly and straight. She even complimented my highlights from my UES guy, which I thought was great– she wasn’t like you must come to me for highlights too, which I appreciated. I will definitely get my hair cuts by Jasmarie in the future. Also, it was $ 70 for haircut/blowout, which is comparable or cheaper than other places in the city.

Alec is amazing! I’ve had a previous balayage before and could never get the exact color I was wanting, so this was my first time at ShampooJC and it beyond exceeded my expectations! I showed Alec a previous photo of my hair and told him what I didn’t like and what I was hoping for; I wanted my lights to be a little more subtle and warmer for the winter season. Alec understood immediately. He was meticulous with the process and knew exactly what color would compliment my skintone. Also, I have to say this was the first blowout in my life that I LOVED, and it lasted for a few days! I felt like I walked out of a hair commercial, it looks SOGOOD! Also want to add, the entire staff is very sweet and easy to schedule appts with. The salon is small but impeccably clean and organized. Thanks Alec for making me feel beautiful!

For a guy who has been searching for a hair stylist for the last 9 years, I have finally found my stylist. That being said, I randomly Unilocaled Shampoo JC. I was assigned to Rachel and she is the ONLY person who has listened to me and cut my hair how she said she would. She did an amazing job and I will continue to get my haircut with her as long as I’m in JC. The search has now ended for a stylist!

I’ve been here twice now: once for getting my highlights redone and once for a hair cut. I bought the Unilocal deal online, which is well worth the purchase. I really love this salon. It’s a bit on the smaller side, but it’s very neat and well kept. The art on the walls is from a local artist and it’s very unique. When you walk in, they offer you a beer, coffee or water right away. The wait is usually about 2 – 5 minutes if you have an appointment made. I haven’t been here without one and I highly recommend you book in advance. I can’t remember who did my highlights, but Alec was the one who cut my hair. My highlights took a long time to get redone. My roots were visible when I got them redone, they were probably already 2 – 3 inches grown by the point. It thought getting my roots redone would be all I needed, but instead my whole head had to be redone. That took roughly two hours to do. At first, I wasn’t happy with the color. I thought it was too light. The highlights I got the first time were in an NY salon and they were only 2 shades lighter than my natural hair color. It blended in well with my hair. When I got my highlights redone here, I would say they were 3 – 4 shades lighter than my natural hair color. It scared me at first honestly. But the next day, I fell in love with it. I also think it’s much brighter in the salon. The light was beaming down on my highlights, so they ended up looking more blonde than they were. My haircut was much shorter time wise. It only took about 40 – 50 minutes from washing my hair to blow drying my hair. It was a fairly quick process. Alec paid a lot of attention to what I was looking for and made sure I felt comfortable with the cut and the length along the way. I really love my hair cut! Overall, I had two very pleasant experiences here. I do think the prices are a bit high here, but the experience is well-worth the price. I’ll certainly be back here in another few months for a haircut!

I have very short hair & most stylist when trying to blow-out/style my hair either make it look like a helmet, an artichoke, or a 90 yr old womens style… no offence to the 90yr olds rockin their style. just not for me quite yet. Anyway, these three looks are not ever the style I ask for when consulting with the stylist. But last week I made an appointment at Shampoo, I saw Gianna. She KILLEDIT! Not only did she understand the look I wanted but my hair came out better than expected. So not only did my hair look amazing, the blow-out lasted 3 days(with some help from dry shampoo), I had an awesome conversation with her as well. I looked good on the outside… felt great on the inside. For sure will be going back!
