We always go there for the breakfast ! And I must tell you it’s the best place when you want pancakes and waffles !!! Their home fries are my husband’s favorite. The egg as and sausages are also really good! Overall I’ve always had a great experience from here :)

Food was not anything worth recommending. I attempted to order a shrimp Caesar salad. 10 minutes later they told me it would cost $ 3 a shrimp because it’s jumbo shrimp. What? So I order a chicken Cesar salad. My date ordered a traditional breakfast and ice coffee. Came up to $ 27. Easy to say is probably never go there again.

Came in late night around 1:30. It took about 40 minutes to cook eggs, cornbeef hash and toast… the service depends on who you get. I ended up leaving the food as it was already at room temperature by the time I got it. Still got charged for the drink despite them offering to give it for free. Never again.

A lot of very simple food for you $. I think this place has seen better times, but even as is there are not many better places around Journal Square. I guess there are not many nice places around Journal Square in general :(

Since I was a little kid, I’ve always seen VIP on the corner of Sip and JFK. Over the years, I’ve gone here for quick bites to eat. It’s a no frills diner, old-school looking on the inside and out, that churns out classic diner fare. Like other diners, there’s a daily specials menu and you can get a hardy lunch on the cheap if you order off this menu. It’s an OK option for lunch if you work in the area; I’ve gone here a couple of times with co-workers. I’ll order sandwiches and fries here. The curly fries are really good here. I also liked their spinach pie. When I ate meat, the gyro platter was my jam! It’s very good. The only thing that I don’t order at VIP are breakfast dishes. I’m a fan of breakfast-served-all-day, but I’m not really into the eggs/omelets dishes here. They aren’t bad, but they don’t appeal to my taste buds. The booths are pretty comfortable. The waitresses are friendly and nice. The kitchen churns out the classics. What else can you ask for in a diner?

VIP Diner has been a place where me and my friends go because nothing else is open anymore in jersey City. There’s a lot of the same times like other diners, but the Chicken Parm is a beast. The marinara sauce is used on everything and I really enjoy the servers. Nothing to special just consistent.

I actually really like this place. The waitresses are always insanely hard working, and come back to check on you a few times during your meal. They also don’t wait until your mouth is full of food, like a lot of restaurants do. The food that I’ve had has been pretty good, and depending upon when you come to eat, can be insanely quick to come out. My fiancé is from France, and this was the first diner he has been to, and he loved it. I went in around noon today and ordered an omelet with my best friend, and both of our meals came out quickly, and piping hot. I wish I knew the name of our waitress, because she was very sweet, attentive and working a ton of tables. Kudos to her for keeping a smile doing all that!

The worst experience had in my life especially with the food service. We had order the steak medium done but they made it well done, so we told the server to please check with the chef but the guy never comes back to us… after 20 mins we had ask about the food and find out the manager had cancel our order without letting us know. The lady was so rude that did not even serve us she was loud. I will never go to this place. I m so embarrassed to take my family there. Never this mistake again. The manager should take a class on how to talk to customers for sure.

I rarely make it to Jersey City and even less to Journal Square, but VIP Diner might bring me back more times. There’s nothing really VIP about the(surprise!) Greek-run diner except for the prompt and courteous service we experienced during breakfast. Even our food almost came faster than the time it took for us to go though the large menu. Breakfast was typical diner food. My Corned Beef Hash & Eggs came with home fries and toast for about $ 8. Friends ordered other standard breakfast fare. Even though we all enjoyed our selections, the portions were so generous that none of us could finish. What will definitely keep me coming back is their free parking lot with wide spaces that help prevent door dings. Without that it would be almost impossible to find street parking nearby. Ok, that lot is VIP!

You can get coffee but if you want soy milk the waitress had a trick and she put a scoop of margarine in the coffee instead. It didn’t make sense but we rolled with it.

Food is always good, the coffee keeps coming and I am surely a regular here. The fries are the bomb and Sonia the gyro platter, veggie quesadilla & the 2 eggs subside up are delish! A lot of students, professors and locals come in here… To be honest even their cosmos are pretty good. I love this place

We usually cook our breakfast but we eat in diners from time to time. And today was that time. Just by chance we came in here and ordered omelette and pancakes. The food was delicious. Pancakes were fluffy and soft and omelette was not too salty or sweet although the toast was really toasted or should i say burnt but it’s okay. Then why 3 stars? The answer— service. The lady was friendly and energetic but suuuper slow. I have to ask twice for water and had to get up to get our bill. They should get more waitresses.

I live down the street and can walk to this place easily. I usually order the same things. I’ve had the burgers, short stack pancakes, meat lasagna, penne vodka, and a salad– not all at once, of course. The servers are always nice when I have gone and there’s a host that is usually there. Never have a problem getting seated. It’s a diner, folks. I do miss having fries, cheese and gravy like the one the diner near my college had… but I’m nearly 40 and I probably shouldn’t be anything like that regularly.

This is my local diner and is only a few blocks away. It is open 24⁄7 and has a huge menu that includes almost anything and everything you would think a diner could possibly have. On this particular night, we went pretty basic with the diner food and got the turkey club sandwich and the cheesesteak. The turkey club was delicious, made with thick cut turkey meat, almost like the left over meat on thanksgiving. They give you a variety different breads to choose from for your sandwich as well, white, wheat, rye and one more that I can’t remember. The cheesesteak was also deilcious, served on a deliciously soft portugese roll, it was the perfect compliment to the steak, cheese and onions. I will definitely be coming here much more often after this impressive first impression. I definitely reccommend if you’re in the area.

Went there at about 9:30 on a very rainy day so as expected the place was pretty empty. Besides us there were maybe 2 – 3 other booths with people in it, all small parties, all had been there before we got there so there was no reason to provide such bad service. There was no one to greet us or lead us to a table, after a couple of minutes the waitress tells us to pick any booth on a certain side of the restaurant and we did, hands us the menu and says she’ll come in a second. It was maybe 10 minutes before the person I was with had to practically yell to get the girl’s attention because she never even bothered to look our way even when serving the people directly behind us… Strike one. Took a while to get the food, and when we did she never bother to come and ask if we needed anything, any refills, anything at all… Nothing. Yet she did ask everyone around us even holding conversations and constantly asking how they were doing yet we were always overlooked. Some 10 – 15 minutes after we finished our meal we kept trying to get her attention to no avail. Finally had to call out to her to get the check, to which she replied that she’d be there in a second. 10, 15, 20mins and still nothing yet the place was still practically empty, we see she starts talking to another customer that’s sitting on the counter and had to call out to her again. Very rude the whole time as she kept giving us an attitude, I understand it’s not an easy job but when you have to call out to her(loudly) just to get the waiters attention and even then being ignored it simply becomes a problem. The food was ok, they do give a lot and price isn’t bad either but wouldn’t go back if it means having to deal with poor service.

V.I.P. Diner is V.I.P. SERVICE: From the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave, customer attention and service is superb! Whether it was our server or another, everyone joined in to make sure your dining experience is spot on… FOOD: I ordered the mousaka, a Greek dish of layered potato, eggplant and a spicy, beef sauce… yumm! We also ordered the Philly Sammie and it was scrumptious. . PARKING: There is a huge parking lot and our truck was easily accomodated. We were also appreciative cuz after gorging ourselves. We needed to walk off some of that delicious food and we were allowed to park our truck here for an extended period of time! (U have no idea how monumental that is when ur in a big rig, and especially in the inner city where parking is tight and a premium) WEWERETREATEDLIKEROYALTY !!

So my Western Omelet today came with the option of pancakes on the side instead of toast, and that instantly made the world a better place. Service was sweet and dinery. Our waters were always kept full without needing to ask, and that good ol black diner coffee wasn’t bad. The huge parking lot is a big selling point and makes VIP a good eats option in the diner department.

24 hour diner… near 1&9 and JFK Blvd. And JSQ. Perfect if you need somewhere to eat in the middle of the night, or somewhere to take a leak. Wha? I don’t pee in bushes or into anything that isn’t made of porcelain. Here. Have my man card. As for the food, isn’t bad… wasn’t Gordon Ramsay either, but it always get’s the job done. Extensive menu… private parking is decent depending on what time you go… but again, this is the kinda place I go to after leaving NYC at 4AM. Clean restrooms.

I rarely give out 1 stars. But this place was terrible the steak was raw. The mashed potatoe gravy was sour… spoiled. The waitress didn’t know her alcohol beverages. Took us 4 times to repeate what we want. Main course came 1st then the sides after I was ½ way done with my dish. Manager said this is not a 5 star restaurant this is a place to get food less than $ 20. Which means his food quality it good at all.

As a Jerseyan, I found this place just barely reaching par as far as Diners go. There was a lot of us and it was around midnight during the weekend of Halloween. The waitress was very friendly and got all of our orders correct. Food came out in a decent amount of time but a little slower than what I find to be typical Diner speed. Food really was just average judging from the quality of my dish alone. We got a plethora of different items on the menu and I ended up ordering disco fries but substituted the regular fries with curly fries. My gf got the Mozzarella sticks and they were average too. From what I gathered from my friends, everything ended up in the average range(in Diner standards) except the wings. Those were apparently EXCEPTIONAL so order those if you end up here. Other than that, it’s a fairly typical Diner with no real standout selection.

I’ve had been here a few times since the 1980s. Used to like the French onion soup and pasta dishes. It was enough for me until I started driving and figured out VIP isn’t the best diner in jersey city. Miss America on west side is probably the worse diner ever and this place isn’t too far behind. Just typical food. The coffee is atrocious. Breakfast is too oily and only would taste good after a long night of hard alcohol and beer chasers. Plenty of parking and 24 hours are pluses. During high school there was a waitress with bright orange hair who worked the night shift in the front smoking area. We used to call her Carrot Top because she had a pretty awful attitude to anyone who wasn’t a regular. She also didn’t like a bunch of loud teenagers messing around during her shift. We were sad when we heard she died. I certainly hope this place would improve with the future changes in the journal square area. I would frequent it most definitely. RIP carrot top

The good old VIP Diner that is honestly anything but VIP. This is definitely not the worst diner but it can really use some updating on all levels. When you’re competing with other diners in the area, its really hard to WANT to go to VIP. I’ve been here several times and honestly its never been more than a 2 star rating, perhaps 3 because I’ve never had bad service. Its actually been the opposite, I’ve always had great service here. On my last visit, our waitress, was absolutely sweet and very attentive. The food was okay and its always just been okay. I ordered their Hickory burger which comes with bbq sauce, Canadian bacon, and cheddar cheese. First off, I ordered it medium hand it was overcooked, which made the burger dry. Then there was no BBQ sauce on the burger. I had to ask for it which I got on the side. It’s the little things, come on. it’s not that hard to get wrong. This is more of a last resort or if you live close enough and really don’t have that much of an option. At least its 24 hours!
