Stopped by the Blackbird Market, again, for their outrageous Caesar salad! It simply rocks. Boosted the bar by ordering their fried flounder sandwich… it’s a killer! Great light cornmeal dredging, not heavy and overpowering. Their Caesar is becoming a weekly habit for me.

We just moved to John’s Island and I am so glad this place is just down the road. We’ve gotten lunch and dinners to go several times and each time the meals are EXCELLENT! Love this place! Friendly people, fresh veggies, meats, shrimp etc. Whoever is cooking the meals knows what they are doing!

Stopped in for lunch after walking to dog on Kiawah. Great lowkey spot with an excellent selection of produce and regional products. We enjoyed a casual lunch in the picnic tables outside, everything we had was delicious. Ham, honeycrisp apple, and Brie panini with housemade Dijon was recommended and greatly enjoyed. Also ordered pulled pork bbq sandwich with a side of mac n cheese. Everything was awesome and super fresh. Along with great customer service, we will definitely be back soon(to try the fried chicken!)

We periodically stop for items such as gumbo, collards, tomatoes to take home– and we always enjoy these items. But, this review is for the restaurant component. We, in Charleston, are plenty spoiled with numerous great choices of places to eat. I will put Blackbird’s up against any of the other restaurants in the area. Granted, you must be into the food and not care so much for atmosphere, but the food cannot be beat. And, for the most part, we are talking about lunch(although recently they have expanded to evening hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). Food is super fresh and definitely farm to table. Incredible veggie plates. Sandwiches on fresh bread and delicious. When they do offer seafood, it too is fresh and well done. Prices very fair for the quality. Bottom line, I will take sitting outside, using plastic utensils and eating out of corrugated trays for the quality of this food all day long.

Second and last time I’ll be back. 1. Prices are higher than any place off Johns Island. 2. Service is lousy. This time, when I finally got waited on, in the middle of my order he took a phone call, not just a quick call. He was on for quite a while when his other line rang. He was on with both calls tracking people and info down. By the time he got off I was ready to leave, but then he turned to finish my order. As I was talking he took another call. I was literally out the door when my husband called me back in saying that he got off and is finishing our order. He never even apologized, just dumped the stuff with the cashier and walked away. Absolute last time I will enter their doors. They are definitely not that special!

If you’re local, you probably already know about the blackbird market. But if you’re traveling in the Lowcountry like us, you might not. You need to go into the blackbird market and get you some of that. We are eating the shrimp gumbo and the cat fish sandwich right now, with some fried zucchini, and some macaroni and cheese, and it seems to represent the platonic ideal of all of those dishes. Five stars. (Upon further review … we got a quart of the she-crab soup and an heirloom tomato pie to take with us on the road, and we just heated it up in our motel room in Rocky Mount on our way back to frozen Maine. It’s the bomb. Rock and roll …)

If you like fresh seafood you must stop by and get some oysters and shrimp for your next cookout. Everything here seems to be fresh.

Unfortunate that we didn’t even get to try it, but I was too annoyed that we were in there for 5 minutes with 3 people behind the counter that did not say 1 word to us, not even a hello. I’m sorry but I will never even give it a try. Rude.

Picked up some picnic supplies, on the way to the beach. Drooling over the fresh fish and shrimp on display, too bad we couldn’t take that with!

My parents have live in Seabrook for over 10 years, and we have been visiting several times a year. Wow how have things changed. I have lived in Colorado and upstate New York and have missed the local market(not farmer market) but small grocery that focuses on good quality fresh products. This place does. Fresh local veggies, bread, seafood, and more. The prices are also really good. My 11 year old daughter wont let me pass by without stopping.

Blackbird Market is a little off the beaten path if you live in the core Charleston city limits. Located on Johns Island near the Sunrise Bistro and soon to be defunked Piggly Wiggly, this market is worth the extra 10 mile drive. Fresh cheese, gnocchi, ravioli, meats, fish, fruit, fresh baked bread, local lotion and soap makers, nuts, spices and much more. The staff have a true warm and winning spirit to help and educate you on complete wellness. Fruits and vegetables are all local so get them quick and often. I picked up some jack and dill blend cheese, squash and tomatoes and came close to some fresh gnocchi. They are open until 7PM most evenings so head on over after work and say hi and pick up some fresh produce.

Saw their sign for fresh shrimp., stopped in glad I did. Not only did I get the best price on shrimp, but also got fresh baked bread for dinner. There is no place better for those on kiawah island.

Local seafood, vegetables, and products that are fresh. Can’t argue with that.
