I absolutely love this place and the owners. It’s a small family run pet supply store. Prices are decent and I always buy my dogs toys, food and treats here. Yes, you can probably find better prices at PetSmart, but because it’s a mom and pop store and the service and friendliness cannot be beat, I won’t go anywhere else.

I love this place and am so glad I found it! Why go to Petsmart or Petco when they don’t even tell you what food is actually good for your dog?
My boyfriend and I just recently started going here to get a specialized food for one of our dogs that Angels with Tails only sold. We were pleasantly surprised just during our first visit. A sweet lady, who owns both the pet store and resale shop beside it, is very knowledgeable about what your dogs should and shouldn’t be eating based on their size, breed, and specialties. To test her, I suggested that we needed Canidae for our dog who has a sensitive stomach, which is the furthest thing you should be feeding your dog with that problem. Straight away, she told me not to get that and to get Nutrisca (which is why we were there). She explained why we should be feeding our dog Nutrisca and not Canidae, which no other pet store owner/​worker had felt the need to explain.
After showing up where we could find our dog food, she suggested a few treats/​bones for our dogs to chew on. A great saleswoman and also, again, very knowledgeable about pets. Now we always go here to get our pet needs. :) I would highly recommend this place!

Have to say I’m a bit surprised to be the first review, as this shop appears to have no shortage of loyal customers.
Several years ago my vet suggested I go to Angels With Tails as my dog had skin problems which the vet thought could be food-​related. The owner Peggy asked me several questions to make sure she fully understood the condition, then based on that recommended a brand of food which resolved the skin problem. I have been a customer ever since.
While the food is considerably more expensive than what you will find at the grocery store, one only needs to read the list of ingredients to understand why: good wholesome stuff like cracked barley, oatmeal, flax seed, blueberries, etc. Part of me wonders if I should be eating it too!
Other than the major holidays, you will find Peggy is there 7 days a week, talking with customers about their pets. She’s one of those people who seems to be on a first name basis with everyone who comes through the door.
Do note, however, that she does not accept credit cards (she also doesn’t like folks talking on cell phones while in her shop).
Adjacent to the pet supply store is a resale shop Peggy runs to obtain funds to build a no kill shelter in McHenry County. She accepts both monetary as well as resalable used item donations.
