This place is fantastic! Love the food but the spaghetti is my favorite. No matter how I try I can’t seem to perfect it the way Greg’s can. My family loves the pizza and I never have a complaint when it is what’s for supper!

A Jersey girl who appreciates good pizza and this place is Delish! My bro and his gf brought it over and it was the first time I tried it. They brought a plain cheese and a sausage. Love how finely ground up the meat is. It was all so, so good! Love it and been craving it since.

Unilocal’s recommendation software filters your results poorly for this location. Greg’s Pizza does have new ownership and is NOTTHESAMEPLACE. Read the hidden reviews at end of the page for a complete picture. FYI. seems there is no way to email Unilocal from a link on their pages.

This pizza place got good reviews and the staff was super friendly. It is mainly take out, although there are some tables outside to eat if you wish. The pizza looked good. We ordered the Greg Special. It was served up hot, but so hot that it drenched the cardboard container and the crust was wet and doughy as a result making it almost impossible to eat. The toppings were finely ground and there was not much sauce. But, what it lacked in sauce it made up for in cheese. Huge amount of cheese on top. The balance was not there and it sat on a spongy crust. I can not recommend this place unfortunately.

Loved this place. Had really good pizza and I saw a bunch of people getting their subs. I would recommend calling ahead of time because they do not have much of a waiting area and the pizza will take 30 – 40 minutes to complete when they are busy. I would definitely go back without a doubt. It was VERY good.

I moved four years ago and I really miss Greg’s Pizza! What I wouldn’t do for a Ham and Mushroom pizza from Gregs right now! Mouth watering! The thick, yummy cheese is out of this world! Can’t wait to go back for a visit so I can have some again!

Greg’s is an icon of what one could call«Old Johnson City,» which sounds funny to anyone who actually lives in Johnson City. When I say OJC, I mean early 1980s. And that’s because that’s as far back as I can remember growing up. So when I made a trip back to my hometown, we cashed in a gift certificate for Greg’s. They’ve been around forever, and it’s been forever(maybe the early 80s) since I’ve had a pie from there. So we got one. They get points for style, since they slice their circular pies into long, rectangular strips. Said strips make it pretty difficult(if not impossible) to eat with your hands, so forks are required gear. They go big on gourmet cheese, which dominates the landscape of the pie, and I suppose suffocates the rather unremarkable remainder of ingredients. I’m not complaining, because it was a nice change from how I normally eat pizza, but can’t say that one of «OJC’s» commercial icons can stand against even the mainstream pizza joints. If you’re looking for a twist in your pie, go for Greg’s — if nothing else to support a locally owned and historic pie shop. It may not be the best pie you ever tasted, but it’ll make you feel good.

Have had their version of pizza since 1977 when my dad was transferred to the South, the pizza is best described as frozen pizza with a ton of cheese. No self respecting pizza maker puts the cheese on top of the toppings, unless you doctor up a frozen pizza. That’s why after eating their pizza about half a dozen times I have never ordered from them again. The best thing they sell is the hot ham & cheese sandwich, I just had it the other day and all though it’s not as good as I remember, it’s better than the pizza. And if the chick from MN, does not like this review well you can just guess what I would say about that.

Greg’s is a Johnson City institution and if you ask around for pizza recommendations, you’ll almost certainly get several people telling you to try Greg’s. One reviewer mentioned that with Greg’s, you either love it, or don’t care for it. There’s not much in between. I concur, and I’m in the latter camp. Greg’s has some of the most disgusting, greasiest pizza I’ve ever eaten. It’s covered in mounds of cheese, so that you can barely taste anything else. I understand why some people like it, but I find it extremely junky. You could get the same sensation by taking large mounds of Velvetta cheese, melting it, and eating it on top of some bread. While I like independent pizza shops, I’d take Papa John’s over Greg’s any day of the week. That said, I do like some of Greg’s other dishes, but it’s certainly one of the last places I’d go for pizza. I’m tempted to give Greg’s one star, but I think that rating should be reserved for pizza that is simply godawful. Greg’s is too greasy and junky for my tastes, but it still tastes OK. 2 stars is about right. Wish I could recommend a great pizza place in Johnson City, but I’ve yet to find one. However, I have heard good things about Scratch Brick Oven.

I pretty much agree with B Nicole G on everything she typed. A «Greasy Greg’s» is completely unique and you either LOVEIT or you don’t. Obviously most people LOVEIT, and I certainly can be counted among those that absolutely get a craving for Greg’s on a regular basis. Been a dedicated«Greg Head» since moving to Johnson City in 1977. Never ever had anything less than a spectacular and unique pizza time and time again… and for the ones don’t like the pizza(God Bless Them) their Ham Sandwich is a major treat as well. That said and living in Boone’s Creek I must admit that I have really taken to Simm’s Pizza as well… just so much closer and EXCELLENT in it’s own right… Can’t go wrong with either PLUS they are locally owned and both Mom and Pop AWESOME. By the way I must give myself a little shout out for just kinda ripping off the«Dead Head» deal and applying to a «Greg Head.» :) Peace

I make it a point to visit Gregg’s pizza when I am in town visiting. I always order a large pizza just for myself. Super greasy and cheesy. Recommend you not eat this pizza if you have high cholesterol. Comfort pizza mmm mmm good.

OK Stop! I can’t believe the natives have not reviewed Greg’s. What the frell is wrong with you people? *sigh* OK, here is the deal. Greg’s is an institution in the Tri-Cities. This place is where fat folks go to get fatter(that is a compliment, believe me.) and a joint half-backers* snub with a vengence. Mike Cunningham, the owner, is a good family friend and I can remember going into Greg’s when I was knee high to a june bug to get carry-out pizzas and Mike was always there… he is still always there. He’ll never retire… I hope. Seriously, Tim, your review is poor and lacking. Bad Unilocal form, sir. Bad Unilocal form indeed. So let me fill in the blanks for ya: Greg’s is NOT a sit down pizzeria. Its a Take-Away Joint. End of Story. There are only 8 chairs against the window for folks to sit while they are waiting if their pizza is not ready when they come in, which it will be within 5 – 10 mins of their arrival. The staff is *gasp* HELLABUSY, not ambivalent. They are up to their little red hats in making pizzas so get over yourself if they don’t stop to chat with someone who is, it seems from your review, pretty snarky at best. NOONE can pronounce my last name(accept for Mike) so when I order anything, anywhere, I give a ‘to-go’ name… Cooper, actually… easy to say and easy to pick out. But, if you can’t be nice to the staff to begin with, then no staff is gonna be nice to you in return. Next, there is no such thing as «light cheese» on a volcano pizza. They simply can’t do it. I don’t know why you think that a 5 lbs pizza is gonna be able to have«light cheese» but it would be a mess if they didn’t put enough cheese on the toppings to hold them in place. My advice(other than never going back to Greg’s) is don’t order the volcano. Simple as that. You know what, forget it, Tim. You just don’t know what you are talking about. Folks, Greg’s is a thin crust, provolone cheese gobbin’, oil down your sleeve drippin’, heart-attack in a bite givin’ mess and I love every single pie I get there. I come from ATLANTAGEORGIA for pizza this good and I miss it when I’m not home. I’ve even had my mother ship(freeze-dry) a Greg’s Pizza to me when I was sick once… THAT is how good this place is. So if you don’t like it. Fine. Don’t go. If you are afraid of getting messy, fine, don’t order it. If you are on a diet, for God’s sake, do not enter the door. But, please… give the devil his dues. A pizzeria that’s been around since before the Nixon administration can’t be all that bad. As a matter of fact it is that DAMNGOOD! Now get up out of that chair, Tim, so I can chat with Mike. *Halfbacker– a person who has migrated to a warm costal state, such a Florida or Alabama, from a Northern, colder state only to choose to return North and stops ‘half-way back’ in Tennessee to reside instead of returning to their home state.

I’ve tried Greg’s Volcano pizza 3 times now. Time to Unilocal! It’s mediocre pizza at best… The staff is ambivalent at best. I always ask for«very light cheese» yet the slab of crappy cheese is ¾ «think… ok for some, NOT for me… They can’t seem to get that. I went in for a takeout pizza. Ordered and paid and sat down in the ONLY chair in the place. Pizza guy says, «what’s your last name?» I say, «you won’t be able to pronounce it.» Pizza man looks at me like I just stepped off the Mars rover and says, «what?» So I tell him my last name which isn’t something like ‘Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious’ but isn’t «Smith or Jones» either… Pizza man say’s, «what kind of name is that?» I answered the only way I knew how… «a customers name» Johnson City Needs a GOOD pizza place… I’ve tried everyone I could find and am still looking…
