It’s the only bbq option around in my book. Great pairings on thier sandwiches. Expertly smoked meat. Decent beer prices to boot.

FANTASTIC food! We drove 40min to get there, and were a little skeptical once seeing the décor, but the food was amazing! Also very friendly service and fair prices.

Most standard BBQ places bore me. The same old chopped up pulled pork, beans, and slaw, etc. Hokie Smokie was different. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much but I was very pleasantly surprised. The pork was moist and not chopped to death. It was the way pulled pork should be. The sides were also great but the pulled pork is definitely the best in the area. Also the brisket bites are incredible. I’m familiar with all of the BBQ joints in the tri-cities and this place is by far the best. Ridgewood is exempt because it’s a different style

This great little restaurant has the best barbecue in the Tri-Cities region. The service is good, the brisket is excellent, and the stuffed potatoes are as good as you’ll find anywhere. The meat is smoked perfectly, too.(At least that’s been my experience every time that I’ve been there.) Highly recommended!

I was very impressed with Hokey Smokey. I chose the Rivalry from the menu which included a choice of three– pork, chicken, and brisket(possibly more). I ended up getting only pork and an extra helping of brisket. Both the pork and brisket were very tender, and along with some great bbq sauce made for a great meal! I will definitely be back

I had the smothered ribeye and collard greens on my first visit and love it! We also had the smoked wings andfried hem tomatoes as appetizers — fantastic! We had no room left for dessert but it sounded very tempting. The staff is very friendly and it was a wonderful first experience.

Our food was cold and dry. We tried ribs, brisket, pulled country ham and smoked sausage, fried corn, fried okra and cole slaw. Sausage and corn were best. The ribs, brisket and country ham were dry even with sauce. We told the waitress who said«I’m sorry,» but offered no remedy even though we ordered the more expensive menu items. I do not recommend. Oh and the price for this meal for 2 people was $ 42.

Nothing special here. The pulled country ham and brisket were both served cold. The sausage was good, not great.

I had the brisket, which was okay, but it was really the sauce that made it decent at all. I tried a bite without the sauce, and it was quite dry. I must admit, I’m comparing every BBQ I have these days to arguably the best BBQ in the country at Oklahoma Joe’s in Kansas City. It’s almost not fair. Anyway, back to Hokie Smokie. My mac & cheese wasn’t even hot, it was lukewarm at best. Green beans were pretty good. Garlic bread was good, but I’m not sure why garlic bread was served with BBQ. All in all, this place was okay, and I might come back to try the ribs, but, eh…

Went for lunch special pulled pork sandwich With Mac and cheese side Mac cheese awful … No taste, cold and tasted like Kraft macaroni from box Pulled pork ok, sandwich to heady to eat with sauce dumped on it… Sauce on side or squeeze bottle would have been nice. Waitress never came back to ask of I wanted more sauce… Nothing to write home about… Go next door to jersey mikes for better sandwich

Loved this place. Great service super friendly people through out the entire staff. We started with BBQ egg rolls and I could have gone home happy just having eaten those. Potatoes are giant. I mean foot ball size. Share them. Beer is cold. Must go here.

Had barbecue here a few days ago. Pretty decent crowd. Enjoyed it but not really anything special. I have to admit the lunch prices are decent. $ 6.99 for a drink, BBQ sandwich and fries. That isn’t so bad!

Went tonight for the first time. The cowboy beans where very dry. The macaroni was a dried up brick. The wings where terrible and I didn’t know I would only get 9 miniature wings for $ 8.99. Will not go back that’s for sure.

Off the hook!!! Have been going to this place since it opened and it just keeps getting better. The passion to please is evident in everything they do. If you love BBQ and feel that it is a food group… you gotta try Hokie Smokie!!!

Great alternative to the Red Pig, which has recently gone downhill. The staff is very friendly and the food is always good. Quick, delicious and reasonably priced.

Food was ok brisket wasn’t as tender as I’d like it to be but tasted ok with bbq sauce. Mac and cheese was good but green beans just didn’t do it for me… great service.

Best BBQ in town, by far! Pulled Pork BBQ was smoked, tender and moist! Perfection! Collard greens were off the chart too! There should be no question in your mind. You DO want to eat here!!!

Heard reviews so we tried it. They were out of chicken, ribs, and some sides. I asked for fried potatos which they were out of?(A kroger is 1000 or so feet away) service was nice but slow. Wife tried the sausage which she didnt like. No flavor other than the smothered veggies with it. I tried the sampler with three meats. The country ham was good the brisket and pulled pork were both drowned in sauce so heavily i dont think the meat really mattered. Decent priced but not the hype that ive heard on here

We have friends who vitually worship this place. Well, being a carnivore, they talked me into giving it a try … and they are right! There isn’t a dish on their menu that isn’t to die for. From meat, smoked out back, to their side dishes, there is something for everyone. The business is family owned and operated, the waitstaff seem to be having a great time, and their specials really are special. The food is so good it is worth the drive from Asheville just to eat there.
