Awesome diamond in one of the dodgier sections of Johnstown. Staff is friendly and attentive, food is quality home cookin’. Can’t go wrong with sandwiches or salads, and the fried chicken balls are divine!

Great food and wonderful friendly service A large selection of sandwiches. Daily specials, homemade soups and the best desserts in town. Love it! Just had my birthday there…

Phoenix was definitely good enough that I’d come again. I stopped in for lunch and immediately appreciated the surprisingly clean and quiet setting. The staff was friendly and prompt. I ordered the Friday special mushroom soup(pretty good), and the pirohi(very tasty, if that’s your style).

I spent New Years here with a few friends. We ordered wings and Moscow Mule’s… It was awesome! The wings were crispy and fresh and smothered in a delicious sauce called the westy. The Moscow Mule’s were served in big copper mugs and were made with Tito’s Handmade vodka. They were really good also. To top the night off the owners provided complimentary sausages, hotdogs, a vegetable platter, desserts and a glass of champagne to see in the New Year. What more could you ask for?!

I ate at the Phoenix I read the reviews and I was pretty disappointed the one review souldn’t can yeah that was a big let down then. The chicken balls are not what they were cut up to be I think mine might have been just a little undercooked the waiter was pretty good but it took a while to come back to check on things I’ll try again on another day and see how it turns out

Not the fanciest place I’ve ever eaten. Monday and Saturday they have Chicken Balls. Huge ball of stuffing with chicken mixed in served over mashed potatoes with gravy over the top. Comfort food!

Love the Phoenix! The food can best be described as bar meets homemade. Some of my favorites are(obvi) the chicken ball — which I prefer to thanksgiving(don’t tell my fam), homemade Mac n cheese and lobster bisque on Fridays, and my husband likes the Cuban. Prices are great and usually a draft beer special or two! We’ve happened to be there during Sam Adams giveaways — bonus! Service is great… Dave is the owner and manager… food can be a little slow but that’s because his wife is in the back making much of it from scratch! Atmosphere some describe as divey — I describe as historic. One of the first hotels in the area made for miners and steelworkers. Well kept — original tin ceilings and they always decorate for the season. Family friendly. Bonus: They cater and their menu is amazing. Also, the Phoenix has a food truck and they frequent local events with their famous chicken balls and DEEPFRIEDCORNONTHECOB with butter and Parmesan cheese — perfection.

Dave and his staff are the most hospitable hosts in town. When we want to eat wing, this is the first place we think of. The décor is retro and walking in there just feels like home.

5 stars for food, 3 stars for atmosphere… Pulled pork nachos were delicious! My friend ordered the wings, and they were also delicious. Honestly, this place has some really great food. Pleasantly surprised, as I was unsure bc the atmosphere is slightly drab. I would highly recommend! Got to love those diamond in the ruffs! Oh… and BTW… GETTHEMOSCOWMULE!

Great food and good service. I have eaten here a lot and have never had a compliant. The wings are the best in town and the chicken noodle soup is one of the best I have had.

I work close to the Phoenix so it’s a go to for lunch. Service can be slow, if you are eating in but the take out is always great. I recommend the chicken ball! I cannot say I have had anything bad from here. A personal favorite is the banana cream cake. All in all one of my favorite places for lunc

Excellent wings and friendly service. I met Dave who is an owner of the restaurant and he was very friendly. These are the best wings I’ve had in Johnstown. They are huge, cheap and they have many distinct and unique flavors that are delicious. They have a sampler of 16 wings for $ 12 that gives you two of each flavor. I loved all the flavors so much I couldn’t pick a favorite. The rest of their bar food looked really good as well and sandwiches looked pretty big. I Highly recommend.

The place isn’t much to look at from the outside, and you might have a hard time actually finding it. The décor is basic and has been around for a while. I was reminded of some of the cantinas we’ve visited in Spain and Italy. The food is down-home cooking; I strongly recommend their chicken meatball, which is the size of a softball, in an excellent gravy. It’s only available on certain days. Our boys chowed down on the Snicker pie for dessert, yum! The service was perfectly fine and the prices quite reasonable. If we are ever in Johnstown again, we’ll be heading over to the Phoenix for a home-style meal.

The Phoenix is one of my favorite places in Johnstown. In fact when we dined there today, it was 9:00pm on a Saturday night. I had started my morning at 4:00am in Buxton, NC and the promise of chicken ball Saturday kept me going. The inside is reminiscent of old hometown bars in the hay day of Johnstown but with a clean modern feel. The food is always amazing. The most amazing pulled pork and the chicken balls are something you will laugh at the name, taste, then fall madly in love with. Dave and Colette the owners are awesome and work super hard. I love that I can get a tonic water with lime as my drink and it’s as normal as a soda! Also. The desserts are bombastic! Baileys Irish cream cake will change your life!

Great hometown feel, always a nice crowd, and the owner’s often make you feel like you’re the only guests in the establishment. The price on the food is an amazing deal and cannot be beat. Also a great location with ample parking. My only regret was not coming here earlier!

A great mix of bar food and home cooking. Everything from wings to home made meatloaf. Best wings in town. Relaxing and casual.

Great place. I was here tonight with a big group and all of the staff were super friendly and attentive. The food was great(especially the wings and pizza). They entire bill for the 30 of us that were there was extremely reasonable. Overall atmosphere is clean, fun and just an overall great place to go.

Slow service, but above average revolving selection of homemade soups including an awesome seafood bisque on Fridays, and a changing menu of homemade desserts. Good sandwiches and weekly dinner specials including Wednesday Mexican night.
