We went here on a weekday just before noon and got the buffet lunch to go. I was dubious initially because Jonesborough TN isn’t exactly famous for its Chinese take-out, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food seemed freshly prepared, wasn’t greasy, wasn’t oversauced, and tasted good. We had Mushroom Chicken, Broccoli Beef, skewered meat, chow mein, fried rice, and steamed rice. The buffet had a good variety of options and the price was great. They even had some cream-filled puff pastries for dessert. I don’t know if those pastries were made in house, but at least they tasted good and weren’t sickly sweet and greasy like so much of the food I’ve tasted in TN. The host was also very polite and accommodating despite the language barrier. My only criticism would be that the buffet had french fries and jello. Those items don’t belong in a Chinese restaurant. Also, there was no egg in the fried rice and that is usually my favorite part. We will return for the buffet for sure.

No. 1 is mediocre, somewhat consistent, and in a great location. They will freshen up the buffet if you ask and their chicken-on-a-stick is very good. Why can’t these places have HOT chinese mustard? Ordering on the phone is an adventure due to the language barrier unless you get one of the kids(young, elementary school age) to take your oder LOL. UPDATE: so the buffet is only on weekends now. Dang, that sucks. Update to the update. Lunch buffet is back, although scaled down and a shadow if its former self. Despite the convenience, I’ll probably choose the Chinese buffets in JC unless No.1 gets a little mute outside sparkle, shine, and variety.
