Great little park and playground adjacent to gorgeous Gull Lake. Mini-zip line, swings, nice play structure — my kids loved it, even toward the end of a long day touring around the mountains. Clean bathrooms! It’s across a driveway from the June Lake sheriff’s office, community center, and library, and a bonus thrift shop(unfortunately with limited hours), so you could take care of a lot of needs in one spot!

This lake is the tits. You don’t deserve to fish if you can’t pull a few out of Gull.

This lake is fun for a quick day trip. We come here to picnic, play on the swing sets, paddle boat, and do a little fishing. The marina is really cute with tons of stuff to look at. The view is beautiful and the little chipmunks are cute to watch. The only negatives this is a no dog park, so people like us with dogs are stuck leaving the pooches at home. It’s a clean, beautiful place to have lunch do some easy activities then head out.

So you’ve been staying in or near Mammoth Lakes for a few days, have enjoyed fishing, but would really like to have some fun without all of the roughing it. Your solution? Gull Lake. Located between Mammoth and Lee Vining, the City of June Lake is a cute little skiing town just off the 395. The road that goes from the 395 to the City of June Lake is called the June Lake Loop, and it passes four lakes. Gull Lake is the second one you’ll come across if you enter the loop at its south entrance. The lake is big enough to boat in, but there’s also a swimming area and a tiny shore. Fishing can be hit or miss from near the parking lot, but if you’ve got a bunch of kids with you, it’s a lot easier to keep them occupied on the nearby play equipment while you fish from the shore. You can also boat-fish or try your luck fishing from the reeds on the northwestern shore. If you are fishing from near the parking lot, you’re going to miss having any trees to shelter you from the sun, but the added bonus is that if it starts raining you can pack up your car in two minutes. Also, the park is a nice place to have a picnic without worrying about those massive black ants. We’ve shore-fished from the southeastern shore as well without much luck. The terrain is more rugged here, but the water is also deeper, so you won’t lose as much gear in the rocks and weeds.
