Don’t be scared. Go ahead and make the turn and drive to the top of the hill for a savory and yummy BBQ treat! The only reason I am not giving this a 5 star is because i didn’t get to try the ribs… they were sold out. We had brisket and pulled pork sliders with two versions of slaw(regular and spicey). Both were delicious but if I only had money to by one or the other I would go for the brisket and spicey slaw. If you find yourself North Shore, I highly recommend visiting HIBBQ. Oh and the have horses and a breath taking view of the Pacific for your dining backdrop!

So the first day my family and I try to eat there their grill is down. So we try the next day and have to sit in the hot sun while they make us wait in line for 15 minutes, while they are not doing anything. And then they tell us they have ran out of their rib plate and their pineapple sausage plate. Which also means they ran out of their everything plate. So that left us with just the pulled pork or the brisket plate. We ask for four brisket plates and the lady at the counter acts shocked and tells us she only has enough for 3. This all happens two hours after they opened. If I could give this place less than one star I would. TERRIBLE customer service! Absolutely no Aloha here

Do yourself a favor and drive up that questionable looking road. Not only is the food good, but the location is an experience within itslelf. Atop a hill in Kahuku, Hawaii is the Hi-BBQ truck that overlooks miles of beautiful Hawaiian countryside. Get some grub bbq from the friendly and beautiful Kate, and as you watch the horses grazing in the nearby field, you will trip out on what a score this is.

This unassuming food truck was just wonderful. Fall off the bone ribs, brisket although just a little bit fatty very very good. The coleslaw very spicy wonderful. We ordered the combination plate which gave us coleslaw beans with some bacon a rib brisket and the pulled pork. You can walk just a few yards away to some benches and have a wonderful view of Turtlebay at the North Shore. Worth the drive.

I have been to a lot of places, Texas BBQ, Kansas City BBQ, Memphis BBQ, Ohio BBQ, South Carolina BBQ. This was really good, really good. Very Tender, the taste is kind of like a Sweet Texas BBQ mixed with Memphis with an addition of a Hawaii twist. I have a hard time putting my finger on it. The apple wood gives it an amazing flavor. I really find that the sea salt around here really makes things taste better in Hawaii. You can buy it by the lb if you get there early. The pulled pork plate was $ 13.00, you get a half lb bbq with a good helping of rice and a scoop of coleslaw and bread.

Oh my! Nothing not to like! Don’t be discouraged by the drive up the hill. A freebie with this place, the spectacular view. The pulled pork, melts in your mouth. Let’s not forget the slight burnt edges. The pineapple sausage different but scrumptious! The rib a slight sweet flavor which couldn’t quite figure out the spice. Oh almost forgot the beans. I never knew sweet beans could be so good.

AWESOME! Just off the beaten path, which is one of the things that makes HI-BBQ so awesome. Situated atop a hill overlooking the ocean and countryside, the view is matched only by the savory melt-in-your-mouth flavors of their smoked BBQ. They give generous portions with delicious sides that’ll leave you feeling totally satisfied. This place is the newest addition to my short list if favorite food-stops. Oh… And the people are SUPER friendly. And did I mention the horses?(See pics.)

Don’t be put off by the small signs leading you off the highway. It’s worth it. You drive through wild landscape of rocks and scrubland. At the top of the drive it opens up to what looks like a ranch with horses and a big open rodeo area. You’re at the foot of the big Kahuku windmills. There is the HI-BBQ food truck where you can get brisket, ribs, pulled pork, or an everything plate. Plates range from $ 13-$ 25. Owners really welcome feedback. Food is really tasty. Plates come with rice, beans and slaw. Great change from the long lines at the shrimp trucks.

A friend took me here and at first I thought we were turning down a private driveway. Upon first look, it’s location appears to be sketchy. Keep driving up the dirt road and you’ll find yourself at a horse arena, grazing fields, and BBQ. The view alone is worth the drive. We came on a cloudy day but the view, even when cloudy… Five stars! Four options: brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, or a combo of all three. I had the brisket(it’s been so long!) And my friend had the ribs. The sides were white rice laid under the protein, coleslaw, and baked beans. The beans were awesome with hearty bits of bacon. The coleslaw had apples. Which turned out well for me, since I decided to go with the spicy option. My friend got the normal style. White rice was white rice. I didn’t touch it. The brisket was a hearty serving! There was some fatty parts, but I like that in BBQ. It seemed like a dry rub was used. The only disappointment was it seemed the BBQ method they prefer is propane. I’m not a fan of the gassy afterflavor(thus the 4 out of 5). Maybe they’ll branch out and experiment with wood or charcoal? I can only hope! My friends ribs were too fatty for her. She picked the meat she could off and handed me the bones to knaw on. Which I happily did! That sauce they uses is amazing! Kinda sweet but not too sweet. I felt like there was maybe some Korean BBQ flavoring in there, too. Whatever it is, it’s nummy! Good BBQ. Horses munching on grass in a field. Wide open space on top of a large hill with a view of green and ocean. What’s not to like? Worth the time and drive. I’ll go back again with my other friends. Thanks for making a country girl feel at home on this island!

Literally the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten. The pulled pork was amazing. Even my 3 year old loved it. The ribs fell off the bone. The bone was so tender I even chewed through some of it. The brisket was very tender and the outside had just the right amount of crisp. Also the location is so obscure but man it’s also part of the show. Its surrounded by a wind farm and 2 beautiful horses on top of a hill overlooking the ocean. Can’t say enough.

I pass by this truck weekly and decided to stop and try it out. Smoked brisket shredded and served up Philly cheese steak style, it was ok I’d order it again a little pricey I think though, but 4 stars because that smoked brisket in my opinion was done up right and tasty.

I’ve been putting off writing a review on this place as the only thing that’s been consistent, was inconsistency. I always hope things like this are growing pains, and really getting used to running a successful food truck or restaurant. With that being said… The food. Overall, the brisket is best. I will consider the ribs again when the cook starts making his own sauce. I’m too harsh a judge in pulled pork since you can get it all over the island done very well. With all meats I’ve got,(the first time I went I got the combo plate to try all three, then sampled each individually, now only get the brisket) the portion size and quality vary. A few times I’ve been disappointed, a few times I was satisfied, and once I was amazed. I do like how they don’t cook the meat with a sauce on. You really get the full smoked flavor that way, but I am looking forward to a sauce! Sides have all been basic. Nothing really standing out there. I would say the spicy slaw is where I lean between that and the regular. No bathrooms, and it is an odd location, but if you are in the area, well worth it for the cool placement near the windmills, horses, and ocean view. Plenty of parking as well as the truck is in a big, open, field

Happened upon this place during a drive around the island. We had already eaten BBQ at Uncle Bobo’s but we love BBQ and are on a quest to find the best on the island. We were happy to find this place. It is basically a ranch/rodeo auditorium with amazing views of the Koolau mountains, wind farm, and coastline. Absolutely beautiful. The food was a little pricey. We got the everything plate. Next time I would get it without white rice. It came with 1 rib, 4 pieces of brisket, and about ½ cup of pulled pork. The brisket was my favorite and I wished they had more ribs. I might just get brisket next time, it was moist and peppery. The lady who runs the rodeo venue, who is the mother of the food truck owner, is so nice and helpful.

The family and I had driven past the BBQ signs a few times and finally decided to entertain our curiosity. Wow… First of all, if you ever wanted to see the wind turbines up close you deffinately get to see how massive one is on your drive up. When we got to the top and parked we were surprised to see a rodeo with barrel racing! Horses everywhere! Super cool. We checked out the BBQ truck and I saw they had brisket… yumm… the kids inhaled it and I have to say it was really good. We will absolutely be stopping here again.

A Texan size slice of heaven up at North Shore. Where the horses roam free, the view spectacular, and the smell of their Pulled Pork Plate brought us to our knees. Great customer service!!! The entire crew are happy and passionate about their food. If you like a little kick have the Sriracha Cole Slaw. *Secret Menu: Hawaiian sweet rolls heavily stuffed with pulled pork topped with Sriracha cole slaw!!!

If you’re on the North Shore heading toward Kahuku and you’re craving something different from all those Shrimp Truck places, you know like maybe some BBQ, try Hi-BBQ! The beef brisket is WINNAS! It’s comes with rice, cole slaw(original or spicy sriracha), and bake beans. A good size portion of food and oooh that beef brisket is so moist and tender! It’s definitely a place to return and eat some good barbecue. A suggestion is to come early on the weekends, they’ll sell out of their beef brisket by 1 or 2 p.m.
