Island Biker Maui

Great shop. I was going to bring my own bike over to Maui, but it’s just too expensive. I called the shop and rented a bike for a week. They gave me a brand new bike to use, and it was spot on perfect. Owner was very helpful and a pleasure to work with.

Bought a Specialized road bike from this shop. They set it up perfect. It rides better than my bike on the mainland. My wife had a bike shipped here and Island Biker also reassembled it for us at a reasonable rate. You can’t really go wrong here.

They tuned my bike for me. From top to bottom, cranks, bottom bracket, cables, Front and rear derailleurs, brakes.
Wrapped the new bar that Andrew suggested I Purchase.
A shorter drop handle bar with the flat top. I did not hesitate to do so. That in itself for me (the wait and think about guy). was a first, I just trusted him immediately.
Well I took it out for a quick shakedown today just 18 miles. All I can say is wow, It shifts so flawlessly and as quiet as a mouse. I had to look a few times to see if it did shift, Dead on.
the handlebars are perfect, I have a riding partner that used to yell out to me coming out from the winery. «bend your arms bend your arms», what is he talking about? it took concentration. I had to lean in to bend my arm un-​comfort-​table. With the shorter bars my arms are now bent while on the top bar the hoods and the drops. I do not have to think about it. the flat top made a wider more comfortable grip way way cool.
I have also never been able to ride comfortably in the drops. (mind you it was only a short trip and I spent only a mile in the drops). I was not painfully stretched and was not wondering is the mile almost over?

Rates were awesome, bike in great condition, owner was super helpful and nice. If I go back to Maui, I’d would definitely rent from here again.
The shop is also super close to the bike path — another plus!

I would give it 3 ½ but not 4 stars. The owner who is usually there was kind of an asshole, he always seemed to have something better to do, or came off as you not knowing what you’re talking about. Because of the location i decided to give this place a shot regardless, and I like the Specialized Allez bikes they rented.
The road bike over all was in great shape, you could tell it was well used, but it was tuned up nicely. The only problem I ran into (which was a major problem) was a back spoke broke and my wheel bent accordingly. I ended up struggling for 24 miles to finish my ride into Hana, but I dont blame the shop for this problem, its just something that can happen and there is no way to prevent.
The price of the bike was $ 50 for the first day and $ 25 for additional, or $ 150 for a week rental. Probably the best deal on the island. Just be prepared to know exactly what you want, your size, pedals etc, and let the dude know or he’ll blow you off like you don’t belong in his store. The other guy who is there sometimes, (scott?) was a really nice guy, so hopefully you see him.
