Had the Locomoco. Much better than I expected. Lots of food too. Cohorts both had the burger w fries and really liked it. Valerie said the bun was brushed on top with a garlic butter making it very tasty. Lady that took our order was friendly and offered extra condiments with a smile

Ambiance sucks and so does the food. I think if you eat here, the breakfast is probably the only thing that worth going for. And take it to go.

Quick stop for an EXCELLENT loco moco and tasty freeze cone. Substituted noodles for rice Mac-not a great choice but still good. The loco moco itself was delicious and filling.

It was bad, very bad. My daughter bit into Saran Wrap and they gave me attitude when I asked for a refund. To be fair, the hamburger and fries was ono.

Ordered cheeseburger & fries, it was very good, tasty, & moist burger. The fries was great, the way I like it, crispy not greasy, & no salt. With a small soda under $ 11. Portion of both fries & burger patty generous.

I was very disappointed. We went for the kalbi plate recently. They gave a very small portion. Last time, it was 2 large kalbi and 2 medium. This time, 2 small kalbi placed on top of 2 of the bone section. IMO, the bone section of kalbi shouldn’t even be served. We won’t be back.

I drove by this business several times while I was working in Kahului, but never got a chance to try out this place until today. Plantation Grindz… what a cool name, and whenever I see«GRINDZ», it’s gonna really catch my eye. Lol! After finishing a few jobs in Kihei & Kahului, I remembered this place & decided to stop on by to try some of their grindz. Plantation Grindz is a small«shack type drive-inn» where you order up at the counter, wait for your food, then pick up your food at the counter, and find an open seat at one of the picnic tables outside. They mostly specialize in Filipino food, & local plate lunches. For today, I decided on ordering one of their specials which was the Meatloaf. It came with a very large scoop of white rice, one scoop of mac salad, and 3 slices of meatloaf in a gravy. What can I say about the grub — the meatloaf had a lot of filler… didn’t taste too much meat. The gravy was not a brown gravy… it was on the lighter color very unusual… but not bad. The mac salad was did not have any taste, but I am not a fan of mayonnaise anyways, so I just took a few small bites just for taste. They don’t serve brown rice, only white rice. Overall, food was just average… nothing to write home about. I should have tried the Filipino instead… As for the service… Yikes! Can I say poor! After I had placed my food order, when I saw my order ready, I saw it sit on the counter for a very long time, as the girl who took my order proceeded to help two other people(who came after me). The two people who came after me, ended up getting their food before me, and bear in mind my food was ready, but just sitting on the counter in the back, with no one addressing my order. When I finally got my order, the girl tells be they ran out of forks, so she gave me a spoon to eat my plate lunch with. I didn’t want to complain, as I had to get something into my stomach quick, as I had to catch my plane home. As I sat down to eat, one of the guys in the back noticed this, and calls out — «Hey Uncle, did the girl give you a spoon to ear?» I tell him«yes», as she said that you had run out of forks. He then hooks me up with a fork, and says«Sometimes people don’t take the time to look, before they speak»…true, so true… Lol! I love to support a local business… and this place is still worth it for another shot. Hopefully they will get more training for their staff on «customer service», that way the customers would have a better dining experience when coming here.

I went to Plantation Grindz to fulfill my craving for a good halohalo. My first stop was to Shave Ice Café just a football field away in the Kahului shoping center. Which I’ve heard rave reviews about. Unfortunately they were closed. I went to Plantation Grindz assuming they’d know about the serious halohalo competition across the street and figured they must do a pretty good job too. Ive heard about their«Barney» which is a honeydew flavored halohalo. I assumed a regular halohalo would do the trick! WRONG! I grew up knowing halohalo as a cup filled with yummy surprises. This halohalo was like having a granola bar when your craving for a chocolate cake. It does nothing for your craving! Don’t waste your time. I’ve never been there for the food. But if they can do halohalo right, I’m afraid they won’t do food right. They’re lucky I can’t give negative stars. So i guess the only reason they get 1 star or even a minute of my time reviewing this place is because I got my halohalo in faster time than I would’ve got my Terri sandwich and french fries from Dairy Queen… =(BRINGBACKDAIRYQUEEN!

Ordered Kalbi and chili pepper chicken and a large sprite. total came out to $ 25.00. I asked for a cup of ice water to which the teenage cashier replied«We don’t have any water cups, we forgot to go to Costco». I told him to charge me for a cup so I could have some Ice water. He asked me what size and I told him large. He proceeded to try and charge me $ 2.75 for a cup. I told him to charge me $.25 for a cup. He just stood there with a moronic look on his face and said«I would have to go ask how much the cups cost». I told him they were gonna lose $ 25 worth of business over a cup. Again he just stood there and did nothing like he couldn’t care less. I took my money back and left. It seems this place needs to figure out how to control it’s teenage cashiers. I don’t care if this kid was the owners son or a relative. Bottom line, he was an idiot. Ice water should be available to paying customers. it’s not my fault you forgot to go to Costco. Don’t penalize me for your incompetence. There are certain expectations of any restaurant. This kind of thing makes me think these people have no idea of what they are doing.

Bad service food was horrible, I don’t understand why the kalbi plate was so oily it had no taste & I seriously felt sick after eating it. The service was a freaking joke & the had little kids working in the back. I won’t be going back

Best kalbi I’ve had on Maui!!! Generous portion and they cook to order! We’ve gotten it twice and both times it was great! We’ll definitely be coming back here!

I had the chili pepper chicken. It was cooked to order, which took about 15 minutes. The menu and ordering was not very user friendly. The staff did not seem very organized. The chicken was crisp and spicy and pretty good. Mac salad was bland and was mostly mayo and noodles. I’ll give it some time and try again.

On a business trip was just driving around scrounging for food when I came upon this place. I saw the sign that they just had their grand opening on may 20th2014 so I figured I would give them a try. The place seemed newly renovated and clean. There are a few benches outside to sit on and I am not sure about other seating. It seemed more like a place for take out. I ordered 2 side order lumpia for around 3.68 I think might be less. They had two types of lumpia, banana and pork vegetable, I ordered the pork veg and it wasn’t overly greasy and had a good mix of pork and veg. Not a bad place for lumpia and I guess I will have to try one of their plates on another visit but for now not bad.

Went here on Saturday, ordered the Loco Moco. Waited a little while for my plate, knowing they are new, I was ok with the wait. Have to admit, I was impressed. The buffet looked ok. But wasn’t interested with the menu at that time. Will go back.

Well I «was» in line to try it out but these kids walked right up to the window and started talking to their friends working behind the counter and ordered. This was extremely rude of all parties so I cant rate the food just the service. No I wont be back.

Had to try this place out, since they made some nice renovations to the place. The parking lot entrance is off of Lono Avenue, so good thing we saw that, or else we may have driven the wrong way off of Vevau Street. Stalls angled, so you have to enter from Lono, or if you’re a typical dickhead Maui driver, you can enter anywhere you want, act like you’re correct and stare at the other driver who is paying attention and flex your Maui wings!!! Kind of confusing as to where to order, as they had 3 windows opened, but only one of them manned. No signs saying«order here» or «pick up» or even«phone orders.» After making sure I wasn’t cutting in line, since there were several people waiting, I approached the center window, where I could view their hot line. Ordered two 2-choice plates, which cost something like $ 8.49 or $ 8.99. Chose half white rice and half chow fun. 1st choice — Kalbi ribs and teriyaki chicken. Kalbi was tasty and tender and the portion was pretty good for the price. Teriyaki chicken did not have any flavor. It’s like they soaked it for about a minute, just for the color, baked it and pau! 2 pieces of bone-in thighs, so not bad, except we couldn’t finish because it was tasteless. Chow fun was not bad, I’ve had better. Okay portion of noodles, though. 2nd choice — Pork adobo and teriyaki chicken. Pork adobo was okay — I’ve had better, but serving was pretty good sized. Again, the 2 pieces of teriyaki chicken was tasteless and disappointing. 3rd choice — bowl of chili and rice I love good homemade chili and this bowl was homemade. The taste was pretty darn good, I must admit, and not bad size for about $ 3.50. Wish they served chili dogs, but that may come later.(If the owner is reading this, you should go to Costco, buy their new all beef regular sized hot dogs and serve chili dogs! Those hot dogs with your chili will be a hot seller! The young guy at the window was friendly and attentive, but can’t say the same about the 2 teenaged girls who helped fill the orders and drinks. I agree with Mitzi’s review about the teenagers working there. Unfortunately, it looks like they may be family, so it may not be that easy to replace them.(If the owner is reading this, you should go to Costco and solicit their food court employees to come work for you! Those employees will be a hot seller!) There was one girl there who I asked if they had chopsticks, which she responded they did. As she filled a couple of drinks in front of me, I asked her if I could have 2 pair, as I waited patiently with my food. She made the drinks, positively acknowledged me, then walked away. As I watched her, she went on to do other things instead of handing me chopsticks. I asked the other young girl there for chopsticks, which she finally grabbed right from the side of the soda fountain. Good thing the other gal wasn’t chewing gum, since it seemed like doing more than one thing at a time was extremely difficult! All in all, not an altogether bad experience for a new business, and I understand the kinks part, but don’t count on me filling the tip jars here! Then again, I HATETIPJARS!!! They have other items to purchase, including chicken Katsu, which have to be made fresh instead of served on the hot line. I may have to repeat to see how their Katsu is, since I rate heavily on this alone! Will keep you updated!

This place, located at the place formerly known as Treats ‘n Sweets, has been purchased by a new owner and renovated into what is now known as Plantation Grindz. They just opened about a week ago but it seems they have built up quite a reputation! I’ve only been there twice so far but both times had very long lines! I was lucky that my order didn’t seem to require a long wait but others weren’t as such. Being a new business, it seems they have some kinks to work out as to what system works best for them to serve their customers in the most efficient way possible. The employees, while slightly flustered with the crowd, did seem courteous and eager to help. There is a breakfast and lunch menu. To clarify, this is an entirely new business; it is not Treats ‘n Sweets with a new name and look. They serve plates with one or two choice entrees that come with fried rice(or chow fun if you come for lunch which is after 10:30pm). When the place was Treats ‘n Sweets I was obsessed with their chow fun so I was pretty excited to see this place also served chow fun. The first time I went, they ran out. I was informed that it was one of their best selling items. Hopefully they make more after figuring out their hot items! I finally got to try it today and it was pretty damn awesome. Very flavorful and a good-sized portion for a reasonable price(unlike Sam Satos). I will definitely be returning often since I live right up the street and am looking forward to trying more items on the menu. The owner is also very friendly and was open to suggestions as to what else he could add to his menu to satisfy the local crowd. Once they work out the start-up kinks and expand their menu, I will give this place five stars.
