I visited the Big Island the week before Thanksgiving and I’m lucky to have found this massage place. I tried the Lomi Lomi modality. It was very relaxing. It had the familiarity of Swedish massage but also incorporates more movements and stretching. The breeze and the sounds from the ocean was a real plus. My massage therapist, Cami, was great. She made sure I was comfortable when I got there and before she started. This would be a good place for a first-time massage. I tend to chat while receiving my massage and she was fun to chat with. All-in-all, she was very professional. Booking by telephone is easy. They’ve a dedicated receptionist for scheduling. The establishment is on the second floor of the shopping village at the address listed. Yes, they accepted credit cards when I went.

Cami gave me a 90 minute Lomi Lomi massage & it was total bliss. The view of the bay, sound of the waves & smell of the ocean, made me feel like I was down on the beach… but w/o the sand getting in the way! This place is a gem.

This was great find on Unilocal! They had appointments available for two of us with little notice. The service was great and would return again. They didn’t get 5 stars because I didn’t realize until I had left we did not receive the 10% discount I was told about when I booked the appointments. ***UPDATE *** They realized the mistake, called me, and refunded the discount! What a great business and I HIGHLY recommend them! Mahalo

The best feature of this massage place is the view that it offers from its massage rooms. Looking out to the ocean and getting a massage done to the sound of the waves with no other music. Now coming to the real deal. The massage therapists were average. Not great. I had the prenatal massage which was god but my husband’s hot stone massage was just okay. There are places that offer better massages. This place is in Kona shopping village and it’s literally a two room massage place. So although the views outside are brilliant, you can expect a lot of commotion right when you enter and exit. There is a lot of hustle bustle and shops playing music etc. Despite great efforts to make it quiet, you can hear loud sounds and music etc during your massage session. It’s also a little pricey for the kind of studio that they have and the place around. It’s a good try for those wanting a massage experience close to the ocean.

called on a Sunday and got booked for a 60min Kona finest massage($ 79 plus tax) with Maki Mizoguchi, who was just outstanding! The room was right be the Ocean, listening to waves while getting a fab massage, true bliss. I tipped well because i recognize a great massage therapist and overall experience was professional, soothing and blissful. I am tempted to go back but i am only here for a week:)

This place was only a few min walking distance from out hotel, so the location was great. Because I previously read other reviews about the place being hidden on the second floor, I knew what to look for, so it was not difficult at all to find the place. We arrived on that floor about 10 min earlier than our appointment(glad that they accommodated our last minute request) and were already greeted nicely from one of the therapists from the get go. Inside the massage room, they opened up the windows and you could totally hear the sound of the waves, which was relaxing. A couple of brief times, I could hear people outside, but 99.9% of the time, the sound of the waves was loud enough that I did not hear anything else. The therapists were super nice and friendly to accommodate out requests. «Keep me honest, ok?,» said one therapist. The long-haired male therapist(I forgot his name) found so many of my pressure points and repeated and focused his movements until I had no more knots! So both my husband and I came out feeling so much better than when we came in. The place is not the typical«spa feel» that you find in other places(dark colored walls, low lighting, etc) but that did not affect our experiences at all since the quality of the massage and just the feeling of being in nature and by the water were super amazing. Oh, and not sure when they changed this, but they definitely take credit cards.

My husband and I found A Ala Massage through online reviews and we are so glad we did. There are lots of options for places to go but to be right near the ocean, the reviews on great masseuses and being in Kona sold us. We have had many massages but these people know how to do it. We were all kinked up from our flights from San Diego and were in need of massages. Rickie and Angel took fabulous care of us… More than a therapeutic massage. What can we say. BESTMASSAGESEVER. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment. They are very accommodating from the booking person on the phone to the therapists. A little hard to find. North of Kona restaurant where the hotel used to be and upstairs. You will be happy you called. I believe it is also called Oceanfront Massage.

We had a wonderful couple’s massage this week. You truly can hear the ocean and feel the ocean breeze while being massaged. It was so very nice and we will definitely go back when we return to the Big Island. Don’t be turned off by the building the massage studio is housed in. It’s in need of a little polishing(which had no influence on the experience of the actual massage!).

BESTMASSAGEEVER! My husband and I came to the Big Island for our honeymoon and got the couples wedding massage. Chaz and Shelly were our massage therapists and were both excellent. Although we are staying at the Hilton Waikaloa, we opted to look for an alternative for a seaside massage as the hilton does not currently offer one. We were not disappointed! All though the location seems a little strange at first, we were instantly comforted when we walked into our massage room and saw/heard the waves crashing on the shore. We have both had massages all over the world and both agreed the quality of the massage here far exceeded anywhere else we have been. The staff is also wonderful and clearly cares about their customers happiness. We plan to return on our next trip to the big island. Trade in the over-rated hotel spas for this incredible experience at A Ala Hawaii Massage!

My husband surprised me with a couples massage here for an early Christmas gift. It was a little hard to find because iPhone maps takes you to the Scandinavian Ice stand down the street, so we were a little worried about being late for the appointment. No one answered the phone the first time, and the second call went to some woman who was not located in the massage parlour. So that’s my only critique of this place is to get the administrative act together. Otherwise, when we arrived, we found Ricky and Hillary waiting with big smiles and aloha. The view of the ocean from the cozy room and the mishmash décor made me feel transported to another nation. My husband preferred a woman, so I got on Ricky’s table and found his body work to be one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Which is saying a lot since I’m very very judgmental about my massages.

Go here for sunburn treatment! Had a decent(no blisters) sunburn and since it was the second day, it felt like a lava field breaking up every time I flexed my back. Forget the hotel/resort spas — this place was perfect! For an hour, just my back, lay face down and was painted with a very cold(yay!) mixture of aloe, frankincense, lavender and other natural oil mixture(smelled awesome) then a layer of spiderweb texture gauze, and another cold coat. Then layer of plastic wrap to protect, and cold towels soaked in ice water(ah!). Massage on legs, feet, hands and head. The ice towels were changed every 10 minutes as they warned(awesome). Then remove all very gently and sponged clean but smelling great. Wish I had this for every sunburn. Loved the sound of crashing waves and breeze from open window facing the bay. No music necessary — this is the true Hawaiian experience. Good to know: — Park in Public Pay Parking near church($ 10, 2 hours 9⁄2014). — Card or cash. Booked online no problem, just used the same card from my reservation! — Shop afterward at Crazy Shirts across the street for«sun rash» shirts and shorts. UV protectant, great for snorkeling and save your backside! — Hydrate afterwards at the Kona Market stalls, for a coconut with the top chopped off, drink the milk right with a straw!

Got a massage there from a very nice girl, and I have zero complaints about her. She knew her muscles, advised some stretches for my hip flexors, etc. But my husband got a middle aged man and basically ran out of there before his time ran out. The guy did not know what deep tissue massage was, did not manipulate any muscles, just kind of pulled his skin around and asked him to breathe in and out at the oddest times. We both get deep tissue massages on a regular basis, because we are very physically active, so we know when a ‘masseuse’ is full of crap.

This place is tucked upstairs, just steps north from the historic Kona Inn Restaurant, down the quaint walkway that meanders between shops on the makai(ocean) side of Alii Drive. Its well worth the find! Nykol gives the greatest massage on the Kona side of the Big Island(and I’ve been to a dozen different people) and you will feel 10 years younger afterwards! If you truly need a powerful push then let her go to it, she is a sweet petite woman but strong! But take your time, soak in the ambience, as the ocean waves lull you into serenity, and the scent of foliage below the open window and occasional gleeful laughter of children playing on the lawn outside remind you there is a world outside. It took me years to stumble across this rare place, tiny but adequate for a rub, the only down side is the bathroom is outside down the hall.(Not surprising in Kona, often the norm, even for some restaurants.)

I feel the need to explain my rating in a bit more detail because I’m leaning a bit towards a 4-star rating. The massage I received was actually very good and my neck(which is a problem for me) felt amazingly better when I was done. I removed a star because I feel that the website for this business really misrepresents it’s location and amenities. They bill themselves as an ‘oceanfront therapeutic massage and day spa’ where you can ‘Feel the ocean breeze and listen to the hypnotic rhythm of the ocean’(actual quotes from website). In actuality it was really difficult to find this business because it’s located in the upper story of a ramshackle strip-mall on busy Ali’i drive in Kailua-Kona. When we finally found the business(after receiving bad directions) I was pretty dismayed at it’s appearance. The inside is a tiny apartment with a tiny kitchenette which doubles as sitting area. Next to the kitchenette is a small massage room with a window. This window is your source of ‘ocean breeze’ and your ‘rhythm of the ocean’ will also include the sounds of people outside, music, and tennis players from the busy restaurants and hotels below. Note: Does not accept credit cards. Bring cash.
