my family enjoyed several items from the menu at different times during our stay as the menu changes every day! so fresh and tasty and fun to try a different style of cooking! nice to experience and would love to eat here every day. her desserts are great also, try the coconut rolls and you will be back for sure. the owner is a nice, beautiful, talented lady who aims to provide excellent service. one of our favorites if you want to avoid the run of the mill, usual fare. she charges by the weight so just try a little bit to see what are your favorites.

Aloha! FOB’s means«Fresh off Da Boat». I think you should not think about fishermens boat, because they don’t offer so much fish. Personally I think they ment da boat, which arrived here from Polynesia and carried the most important things to survive. It would make a lot of sense. We found this place, when we were looking for traditional Hawaiian cuisine. And this place offers really really good Hawaiian– Polynesian food influenced mostly with Samoa. They serve ulu, taro, lamb, cabbage, green(cooking) banana, shrimp, turkey tail, pork belly, cassava, pork sausage, oxtail soup and so on and so on. Some items(ulu) is seasonal or many times they are«sold out». It’s usually sign of freshness. Everything I tried was good. Not a single complaint.(I was there again today, just to check and I ordered little bit of everything to take away again, so I can analyze food with my wife). The food there is EXCELLENT and you will miss a lot if you don’t go there. I wrote to few of local Unilocalers to check it out, so soon we can see more reviews. For food I was ready to give 5* immediately, but then, I was thinking about few controversys. For example they sell great Samoan chili sauce, but for bistro they use Tabasco(so if you want to buy sauce you don’t know how it tastes). Or they advertise on shirts beer from Samoa, but they don’t sell any, or they serve take away in polystyrene boxes. Or I just care too much and want them to be the best … Yes, they have huge potential and I believe, they can make it one day in Unilocal 100!!! Let’s see and I wish them they will. The food is really good! I would be definitely back and hopefully you too! Mahalo for reading this.

Found this sweet Deli across street from Salvation Army. Lamb ribs are fabulous. Recommend Lu Pulu(taro and island corned beef with coconut cream) highly! Owner is a delight. Get the samoan cocao and rice for dessert. As they say– better to fall in chocolate than love!

It’s a great place with a nice owner. I highly recommend it if you are looking for Polynesian food. She told me that if the taro leaf dish is not cooked well it will make your throat and ears itch. My throat and ears were itching from the time that I had the food for about an hour. It was well worth it though! :)

Wow! This little place is fresh, delicious and friendly. My hubby and I love local foods and this place has it all! Food is fresh daily and full of flavor. I suggest trying Palusami and the NZ bangers… so good. There is a small seating area so best to order to go and head down to the nearby park or beach to enjoy. The owner serves until everything’s gone OR7pm rolls around so get here early.

This restaurant was everything I wished for… and more! It’s a cute, tidy little shop in an unassuming strip mall(these seem to be common in Kona), but the food – OMG, out of this world good. This place has a lot of islander food it was difficult to find elsewhere, even in Hawaii. No loco moco/fried ono here, but instead you have dishes like taro leaves with corned beef, lamb ribs, big-island grass fed corned beef and cabbage, vermicelli with chicken, spicy fish ceviche in coconut milk and oxtail soup. They don’t have the entire printed menu every day but the chef still has a wide variety of dishes available daily. She was very helpful in explaining all the ingredients and how everything was prepared! And to top it off, you can pair a side of taro with coconut milk with any and/or all of the above. Everything is in steam trays behind the counter and sold by the pound. I couldn’t decide what to get, so I tried a little bit of everything. And my favorite was… everything! Seriously, everything was that good. If I had to pick a favorite though it would have to be the oxtail soup. The broth looked clear but tasted nice and creamy, it had plenty of leaves and veggie goodness, and the tails melted in your mouth.

When I went in they were out of Panipopo, but I was able to order a variety of other things. Great food. Especially the crispy roast pork. I’ll have to make it back to try the panipopo!
