this is a review of the happy bento, which is the home delivery side of the business. ordered two of each featured entrée this past week(lemon chicken, teri steak, chicken adobo and curry) and one of each featured add-on salad(bruschetta salad and mandarin salad). the first night one of us had the mandarin chicken salad. greens were fresh and the dressing was very tasty, so i was really looking forward to the next night’s dinner. on the second night, two of us shared the curry because the portion was very large. also shared the bruschetta salad. the curry was quite good, but the bruschetta salad was way too garlicky and acidic from an overuse of balsamic vinegar. the next night one of us tried the lemon chicken. while the presentation was appetizing, the entrée was so lemony and salty that it was truly inedible. the accompanying turmeric-infused rice and veggies were fine. the other of us tried the teri steak. nothing special, but edible. the accompanying okinawan sweet potato sticks were overcooked and dry. today for lunch one of us tried the adobo chicken. like the lemon chicken, it was over-the-top salty. i really couldn’t take another bite. the website and backgrounds of the owner and chef were impressive, so i took a chance and ordered, but i will not be ordering again unless they give me my next order for free to make up for all that meals i had to discard.

Our office created a 5-week fitness challenge using pedometers. Those who qualified on a weekly basis were entered into a bowl and 5 winners were chosen from that bowl at the end of the challenge. The prizes were 4 weeks of salad from Salad Envy every Friday. I was one of the winners and OHBYGOLLY! I picked a different salad every week and every single one was ooh so tasty. I’m thinking of just ordering it for myself every Friday! Week 1: Tiger Princess: the shrimp, even if they were cooked prior to delivery, were so scrumptuous and had that little crunch of goodness telling you that it was perfectly cooked. Avocado — i didn’t realize they meant they use a whole avocado. there was so much avo!!! yum! I could hardly finish the whole bowl but it was so delicious and guilt-free that I just went for it. Week 2: Komodo Dragon — i’m not a meat eater but thought I’d try it since it looked good and if I didn’t like it, well I didnt’ pay for it… Took a bit and couldn’t put it down. The blend of walnuts and the teri flavor mixed with the feta will just blow your mind! Week 3: Indonesian Curry bowl: I love exotic flavors but this blew my socks off. There are lots of deep green veggies that I didn’t think were going to be tasty but was I wrong. By themselves they were delicious but with that roasted tomato sambal it made it 10x better. The potatoes and almonds give it an interesting and flavorful twist. Week 4: …haven’t decided what i’m going to have yet but can’t wait. If you’re thinking of trying their service, it’s well worth getting a few friends in the office to try it. You won’t be hungry the rest of the day and you’ll know you can eat the whole thing and not feel guilty for enjoying it. Forget about that greasy bowl of plate lunch — go for Salad Envy instead… and they deliver it to you too!!! Thanks Salad Envy!!!

Salad Envy is a new healthy food delivery service from Kailua that brings together a master of food creation and a nutritionist. The offerings are created by Christian from Buzz’s/Lucy’s/CaterToMe family and fame. They have about 12 – 15 salad options to begin and they are all delicious and can be customized. We tested 9 of them the other day at my office and everyone was impressed not only with the flavor, but with the size of each salad. The plan to expand their offerings in the coming months. Check out their site and try out the service. You won’t be disappointed.
