Not awful. …but nothing like I was used to living in SoCal. Just seems a little on the bland side for Mexican.

Food was good but service was superb. Thank you to the young lady who waited on me. She was knowledgeable and courteous.

This place is fantastic if you are craving Mexican food. The service is friendly and fast, drinks are good, the free chips are served with two different types of salsa. We eat here at least once a month. They had great specials for Cinco do Mayo, they have a full bar with seating separate from the restaurant side in case you want to escape the noise of babies(no offense to the babies!). They even have a very small outdoor seating area on the sidewalk(2 tables). Located just off I5-easy on/easy off, in downtown Kalama. Go ahead, go, try anything, it’s all good!

I wanted this to be better than it was. No black beans — they were out. What??? You can’t run out of black beans! The service was friendly but the food was a bit lacking.

I travel from Seattle every week and catch this place when ever can. The food is great and the service s amazingly! I can’t say enough good things about this place. if you are driving by and are hungry, I highly recommend Playa Azul. Make sure you meet Ruben the owner. The spirit of the place is his love of Mexican food and amazing service.

When we moved here we went here for lunch. Wow it was great and the manager once I told him about my food allergies to tomatoes give me recommendations and offered to create something. I’ve been back many times and now the staff know me so they will tell me I can’t have something because it may have been marinated in tomato. People are great, food is wonderful, even our out of town visitors are impressed.

I waited to be greeted at the front door for over 5 minutes. There was no one in the restaurant on a weekend during lunch time. That gave a red flag right away. After waiting for a long time I decided to take my business some where else, because I did not want to wait any longer. I won’t be going back to this establishment.

Not worth it. Stopped here on our way home from road trippin. Ok Mexican food. Would never eat here again just based on the food and price. Waiter just walked us to the table and hardly greeted us. Hostess lady was attentive and friendly. No drink menu either. Guess the waiter assumed since we were in Washington we couldn’t understand him talking shit on us in Spanish.(he got upset I was questioning the drinks/brand of tequilas)

This is my favorite mexican food place. You would not think of Kalama as a bastion of international foods, but between this place and the chinese place next door it is where I head to if I have to eat out in Cowlitz County. Great salsa, chips and entrees.

We ate here for lunch after cycling 50 miles from Portland on day one of our trip up to Seattle. I was desperate for some food, so anything would have been fine, but this little Mexican place was an excellent surprise. It was pretty empty when we got there, so the owner or manager got us chips as soon as we rolled up to one of the outside tables. They were still hot — yum! The salsas were also delish. I got two beef tacos with rice and beans and my boyfriend got shrimp enchiladas. Both dishes were delicious… great portions and really yummy, hot, fresh food. I’m not sure if I’ll ever roll through Kalama again, but if I did, I would certainly stop by Playa for lunch or dinner.

The regulars are ordering Mango margaritas… Too full to try one but next time! We will keep this place on radar when we travel back to Portland, OR.

Random discovery worked out great! Very good food for a small, small town place… good drinks and food at a very resonable price, and huge portions! I’m the type of person to eat all my food no matter what and usually don’t have a problem, but it was a challenge — even after spending a day hiking and driving around Mt. Rainier with no lunch! Hit the spot… gf was very pleased as well. one con — we should not have sat in the bar next to 8 college girls who obviously had not sense of noise level or respect for those around them… could barely hear servers or ourselves talking! I’d stop in again if I ever make it back…

My buddy Bill frequents Playa all the time, so when I was out and about on Father’s Day and ready to head back home from Mount St Helens, I plugged Playa into my GPS and off we went. Once seated, I’m presented with Chips and two salsas(red and green). Both had the right amount of heat. The Green was my favorite. I enjoyed the chunkiness of it. I had the«Fathers Day Special» about $ 9 which was 10 prawns sauteed with Mushrooms and Onions and served in a cream sauce. Rice, Beans and Tortillas accompanied the dish. I did not see this on the regular menu, although an identical chicken version was present for about $ 13. The prawns were flavorful, not overcooked. The crème sauce was lip smacking good. Overall the meal was enjoyable. I would definitely go back.

Expecting to eat at a top notch restaurant in small town America is probably not going to happen. This is a very, very small town. Folks need to rate restaurants according to location as well as food. This Mexican food restaurant may not be fancy but it’s certainly a great place to have a good meal with friendly people for a great price. The food is excellent.

We stopped in here for lunch while passing through. Looked a tad run down from the outside, and like it was a bar. You do enter through the bar from the street — but they have restaurant seating in the back! We were very pleased with our meal. Portions were HUGE. We got the super burrito — chicken. Easily fed both of us! The chips were warm and crispy. salsa was okay. Not a lot of flavor, and pretty runny? Very mild. All and all we had a good dining experience and will definitely return if we’re ever in BFE again. :)

My favorite Mexican restaurant! The Pollo la crema is different than other restaurants but generous in chicken, creamy and flavorful. The Pico de Gallo is also fabulous and the flan. OMG!!! They’ll make whatever you ask for, but they have a Campachana that is not listed on the menu. I prefer mine chilled with hot sauce. Absolutely fabulous and very friendly staff!

Amy makes a MEAN margarita, and the food is great! Shrimp taquitos aren’t on the menu, but ask about them! They’re SOOGOOD!
