We found this place on a Saturday in between the 2 farmer markets in Waimea/Kamuela. You can’t miss the smoke or the racks of rotating meat on the north side of the street. Its 10 $ now at end of 2015 for a big styrofoam plate lunch of half a chicken or beef or pork ribs(plus mac n rice). We thought the chicken(super crunchy and still juicy) was better than the ribs, and they were both pretty good. I think most of the people who get food here are locals because all you get is one fork and one napkin and nowhere to eat. If you’re a tourist — I’d head back towards the western farmers market and look for the park on the north side of the street — it has picnic tables and a potty. For 10 $ you do get a huge amount of food, so if you’re a tourist with no way to store leftovers… and you find the park… you’ll probably find someone who can use the leftovers. Almost forgot if you do find yourself in the vicinity on a Saturday… do not miss the sidewalk vendors at the KTA shopping mall. The KTA lot is a hoot on Saturdays, and they have a potty behind the cowboy.

This is an island experience. Outdoor make-shift grill with 6 giant spears of whole chickens being roasted right by the highway. The chicken skin is so crunchy and savory while the meat is juicy and tender. Tastiest chicken, ever. and the mac salad is way better than at any restos here. Hands-down, the only lunch plate on the Big Island you MUST try. Rain or shine. Mahalo

I had so been looking forward… Didn’t live up to the hype. good but not great. Had both the chicken and the ribs — greasy, salty and saucy … If you are looking for that, you will love this :-)

Not a southern BBQ and there is nothing wrong with that. This is the place where Locals eat. Meet simply seasoned and cooked over wood. Pork ribs are super have a very Bacon flavor to them if you ask me. and the empanadas are very good to. Only word of advise is go early as they do run out of food just remember the early eater smiles while the late eater has the grumbly tummy

These guys are fantastic. The chicken was incredibly juicy and we(all 8 of us) couldn’t get enough(although, that’s not a problem because the portions are huge). This is a great popup to make time for on your visit to the North Shore.

If you see GJs sign and his HULIHULI Grill Turning anywhere on Hawaii Island you have found the right place to stop for Lunch. I love the fall off the bones Chicken and my son never passes up a chance for the ribs. Even if we are not hungry just the smell can change our minds and we often stop and take it home for dinner later! Also do not forget to check out what extras he might have on the table always different but always authentic homemade GOOD!!! GREAT Mochi if he has it !

And Hawi maintains its great food streak! Oh. My. God. I have never had chicken like this. The skin is wonderfully flavorful and perfectly crispy. The meat is tender, moist, and tastes great. It is cooked PERFECTLY and falls easily off the bone. It has fantastic barbeque flavor without being overly smoky, and whatever spices they use in the rub are incredible. This is easily the best chicken I’ve ever had. Better than fried chicken, better than normal BBQ, one of the best things I’ve ever had. To make this place even better, they give a lot of food for the very reasonable price of $ 9. It’s fast, and they also have ribs that I can’t wait to try. If you see GJ’s, STOPIMMEDIATELY and get some chicken. You will thank me.
