We stopped in here while headed to Waipio Valley and boy am I happy we did. Two adults and four kids aged 12, 12, 14&17. One caesar, one burger, one pulled pork sandwich, one brisket sandwich, one cuban and another salad of which I cannot remember the type. I thought the food was great all around. The brisket sandwich was heartily disliked by one boy as it tasted, in his words; ‘nothing like pulled pork’. Yeah, that really happened and it WAS a great sandwich. I loved my cuban! Everything was great and I wished I’d saved room for dessert.

Delish cubano sandwich and pulled pork BBQ! Relaxed, quaint & cute atmosphere with friendly and quick staff. Nice Sauvignon Blanc as well. Lots of food on the plate, couldn’t eat it all! The bread was fresh and crusty yummy! Worth a stop on the way through town.

Nice quant country feel restaurant. Good quality food. I had the fish and chips with the catch of the day(spear fish). Amazing!!! Super buttery fish, nice light crunchy batter. The fries were not very fresh however. My friend(a local resident) swears by the pulled pork sand which with house made barbecue sauce topped with a giant fried onion ring. Great stop if your in the area.

Went here with GF and her college friend. Food was decent, but I expected more. Specialty drink was okay. The food wasn’t as flavorful as I would have liked… especially the brisket. It’s definitely worth checking out as individual tastes vary, but I’ve had waaay better BBQ. Oh, and on that sampler we had, they were out of sausage so we doubled up unfortunately on the briskets.

I like the rustic décor as we entered in. I lived in Texas for 3 years and I miss the BBQ. I understand that it won’t compare but it does the job at feeding your bbq cravings. The food was fast especially because we were on lunch. Got the sampler with the cornbread and beans. The beans were underwhelming and the cornbread small and somewhat dry. The meats were tasty and the BBQ sauces had good flavor. The brisket was decent but the ribs felt dry. It was pricey for the amount $ 25 for the plate. The onion rings were delicious. Overall it was a decent lunch… Will come here again but not a regular lunch spot for me

Never done this before but haven’t even been here yet and have to give 1 star because of the 17 $ sandwich? Really? Is this at the four seasons? Why do these businesses always try and rip us off!

The BBQ sampler is HUGE! Enough for 2 if not 3. The pineapple tea was yummy, yummy. As it was evening and raining being seated by the front windows was very chilly.

Thank goodness for this delicious place!!! Staying at the Hapuna Prince was not the best for eating well and this place is soooooo good especially for being so close! How yummy is this place? We came twice and for us that’s a miracle. The bbq is some of the best we have ever had including Texas! Seriously the best. And to make things even more calorically challenging they have a banana cream pie that you will swoon over. I saw a chocolate cake on the menu but I just couldn’t take the plunge and keep my weight intact. Holy moly was everything absolutely tops in flavor!!! You cannot go wrong eating here. You simply can’t. Post some pics when you come here so I can have a nice flashback ok?

We came here for lunch after hiking Waipio Valley, so we were pretty hungry. It was surprisingly crowded(I overheard one of the waitresses tell another customer it was the busiest she’d ever seen it) so we waited about 10 minutes for a table. The first waitress we had was very nice, promptly filled our water mason jars and took our orders. My husband ordered the sampler and she told him they were out of ribs and chicken, but would give him extra everything else to make up for it, which is perfectly fine. I am giving this three stars for everything else. After taking our order we didn’t see that waitress again. Instead, our food was brought to us the the bartender. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere else, and her attitude reflected it. She dropped off our food and left without a word. We never got a water refill, and we weren’t checked on again until she brought the bill. The food was good, but I would recommend finding a different place to eat if it’s busy. Or maybe stick to carry out.

We’ve been on the Big Island for 3 weeks, and this by far is our favorite place to eat. It’s worth the drive to Waimea from Kona or Hilo to eat at The Fish & The Hog. We ordered a Beef Brisket plate and a Pulled Pork plate. We travel extensively, and this by far is our favorite BBQ in the world. The meat was perfectly smoked and cooked. Everything tasted superb, from the home-brewed iced tea, to the Paniolo BBQ sauce, and the sweet-and-spicy baked beans. The servings are VERY generous. The restaurant/bar is casual Hawaiian with high open-beamed ceilings, skylight, ceiling fans, and weathered hardwood floors. Service was courteous and welcoming. Do NOT miss this place if you’re passing through Waimea.

Quaint little place. Known for it’s smoked meats. Our waiter was a sweet young man who was very thoughtful when I asked him about gluten free options. Hubby and I shared the sampler platter. The beef and ribs were my favorite, unfortunately the pulled pork was very dry and tasteless. The potato salad was good and hubby said the Caesar salad was very good. I ordered one of their signature versions of a Cosmo but they were out of their special mix, bummer. The sampler plate was a perfect size for us to share. The food was fair, but I am not craving a return anytime soon. The server was a sweetheart.

While driving to the Hilo side from Hawi, we passed The Fish and the Hog and it looked super cute! So on our way home, we decided to stop by this place and grab some dinner. The restaurant: super cute spot off the main road! There’s 2 entrances to get into the restaurant, the back or the front, either one you will find you’re way in. If you walk in from the front, there’s a full bar to the right, there’s a left side and a right side of the restaurant. When we got seated, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the table, but the waitress said all the other spots were reserved. Ok fine. But then 5 minutes of sitting there the waitress asked if we wanted to move to the section I wanted before. i asked if she was sure that was ok, and she said it was fine. Ok sweet! But as it turns out, she wasn’t doing it because I requested it first, she offered the table because a party of 4 walked in after us and needed a table. So she moved us to accommodate them… thanks. What we ordered: — Pulled pork nachos — BBQ Sampler with crackseed BBQ sauce(two sides we ordered were the beans and the onion rings) — orange cream soda(free with Unilocal check in) — bill was around $ 40 I just wasn’t a huge fan of their BBQ. The sampler had brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, and ribs. I think I like the saucy kinda BBQ better, not the dry rub kind. My mom and I thought the brisket was a little overcooked. The nachos were not anything special to write home about. Overall, our experience was ok. I wasn’t too big of a fan of the crackseed bbq sauce either.

4th Star for the food. Formerly Huli Sue’s Bar & Grill… now known as The Fish and the Hog Market Café sitting in the middle of sleepy Kamuela town serves exactly what their name projects= fish, pork= BBQ style. The food(we tried the BBQ sampler– $ 25) served enough food for taste amongst 3 of us. It included 2 sides(cole slaw, onion rings) and we ordered 2 extra sides, baked beans and potato salad(each additional side approximately $ 5 – 6 each). The grilling was perfect and their home made sauces were okay. Noticed they use dill in almost all of their sauces and dressings. Their cole slaw was the show stealer. It is tossed in greek yogurt(I’m sure) with dill and celery seeds. Extremely light and tasty; next time, I will order a side order to go. I’m going to issue a caution if you don’t like leftovers: One order will definitely feed 2. Each portion is huge(price point per order on the menu = $ 15 – 19 average) Beverages? mixed drinks with our without alcohol is made with local fruits and flowers resulting in earthy tasting beverages… I dunno; I could take it or leave it; more than likely leave it! Lots of parking, handicap ramp in the back side of the building and a couple seats outdoors available for seating IF weather permits. 1 star deduct for lack of climate control. No air conditioning; at least; the electrical A/C type with constant 70 degrees. Nope! ceiling fans only. Ceiling fans may work in the evenings or in the winter but certainly, in the deep of summer and early fall? I don’t think so. It must have been 80 degrees plus… Not my idea of a comfortable conditioned luncheon. A true sign of a «local» «small community» entity is their constant offers to the local merchants who have a table top where their homemade products are sold. Yikes! $ 1.50 per tomato? I was tempted to buy one and eat it there… just so I could see what $ 1.50 in a tomato means… In conclusion; if you are in the area, try it. But make sure it’s in the evenings or the winter unless of course, you can handle the 80 degree inside temperature…

The brisket that Mr. M had was delicious. I loved my fresh fish sandwich, and these may be among my favorite french fries ever. Paired with a nice local beer, it was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. The pork nachos sounded good, but the chips didn’t hold up well and were quickly soggy.
