4 stars if you stay up top, 1 star if you venture down to the beach area. Where do I start? First off, STOP! — do not go here unless you know EXACTLY what you’re getting yourself into. Do not travel down to the beach area unless you have a method(at least three trucks) to pull you out. The sand is very soft and very deep. You’ve been warned. If you like to be around people this is the place for you. We just got back from a LP trip and decided to camp here are first night before heading out on the lake to set up camp. Huge mistake. First mistake, we arrive at dark. This was the first time visiting this campground/beach and it will be our last. After about 2 hours of being pulled out of the sand, we got the pleasure of listening to life stories until 2am from the camps all around us. We just wanted to spend a night at an inexpensive campground near the marina and what we got was a cheap nightmare. If you’re considering this campground for a quick overnighter like we did, stay up top near the main bathrooms, preferably on or near the main road. Save yourself the trouble and lack of sleep and don’t venture down to the revival beach party where everyone and their brother from another mother is at — and certainly don’t arrive at dark, dusk or an hour before sunset. To all those that venture down to the beach in their big-A motorhomes and 5th-wheels, I feel sorry for your toys. We saw cars, RV’s etc. take the worst beating I’ve seen the next morning as people were leaving as they were trying to make it back up the hill via one of 20ish sandy roads. NEVERAGAIN!

My favorite campground on the lake and possibly in Northern Arizona. I’ve camped all over the place and LOVE Lone Rock, especially between October and April when it is least-busy. During this time the water is generally cold, but calm. Very little boat traffic and almost nobody on the beach. 4 wheel drive is recommended if you want to explore the far reaches of the beach. The eastern side is gorgeous and is harder to get to, which means most people don’t bother. You can get a sedan out there, but you have to be very careful about where you park it. I’ve towed many people out of the sand here. There is generally someone around who can rescue you — just make sure you THANKTHEM for their trouble! A beer goes a long way when someone unsticks your car/motorhome. Pit toilets are a far walk during the off-season, so I generally set up camp and use my vehicle to get to and from the bathroom. During the regular season, this place is packed with houseboats and tent campers alike. Don’t expect serenity or solitude during the summer, even if you’re there mid-week. Overall, highly recommended. Enjoy, and please pick up your trash!

This was a unique camping experience. You drive directly our onto the beach. The sand was soft in some spots, so just make sure you keep your momentum up when driving through. We stayed here in March, so the crowds were very thin, but apparently it gets busy during the summer. The view of the water was fantastic. Since stayed here in the Winter, the microflush toilets nearby were not open. It was a 15 – 20 minute walk up the beach to reach the closest ones. During the middle of the night, we drove up to them instead. You can put your kayak in right at the beach, but there is no ramp for boats. Campfires are allowed on the beach, which is really neat. I would definitely recommend this area for anyone that is looking for a different campground to try out.
