Although a beautiful area; access through the private property of the townhouses is trespassing. There are no public access’ through these properties. It is not worth the risk.

Just adding on to Mary Q’s review which is great. We just hiked there today so wanted to add on to her comments. We parked in the McDonalds, Times Market parking lot. From here walk back on Hui Iwa street going away from Kahekili Hwy until you see Hui Iwa Place, turn in here. When you come in you’ll see«Dead End» sign but at the end is the tennis courts and just to the right of the tennis courts is the trail head. It does say Private Property No Trespassing though. There is another entrance on Kahekili Hwy if you walk against traffic in the bike lane it’s maybe 200 yards up the hill from the McDonalds/Times Mkt parking lot. This entrance is steeper/muddier than the tennis courts entrance and it’s a little longer. Mary must be young and in really great shape because it took us(50 somethings in great shape) 50 minutes to the top. Yes it’s way worth it. Coming back 30 minutes, all downhill. It’s mostly shade in a jungle like canopy but we had camelbacks and I would recommend having them and filled with water. Going up is straight up and there are several wet, really slippery places. If you have tennis shoes. forget it. Running shoes… possible, Merrill hiking shoes would be best. Toward the top there are two steeper areas but have ropes there to help the climb. Go early before it gets too hot and ALWAYS wear long sleeves when hiking here because of mosquitos. There weren’t too many but my wife who didn’t have long sleeves wasn’t as happy as me. The tennis courts entrance is the way to go as it is still steep but completely dry as compared to the entrance we came in on. Views at top are great.

This is truly a secret find through the trails of vegetation and townhomes of Ahuimanu area of Kaneohe. We happened to stumble upon it when we lived in the Hokulua townhomes. It is a fairly easy 20 minute hike, but beware of mosquitos… LOTS of them! And because it is not travelled alot it can be overgrown, we had to take a machete with us the 2nd time around to cut through it(really). You can take your dogs, but keep them on a leash, I got the feeling that their could’ve been a wilde boar out there! But once you get up there the view is amazing! There is an old portion of a bunker there, and someone had left a «I was here» journal for anyone to sign. And you can sit up there and reflect, and have a light picnic. Make sure you bring water with you, because of the humidity in the Kaneohe area, and it is a dusty trail. Also if it has rained in the last few days, beware, it will be very muddy, and the trail isn’t very«developed.» To get there, it’s off of Kahekili highway, and when you see Valley of the Temples on your left, make a left on Hui Iwa st where MacDonalds and Times Market is. Here is the tricky part, you will be in a sea of townhomes, so you will have to find the street on the right where Hokuloa’s tennis courts are. It will be a cul-de-sac street, and walk pass the tennis courts, then it will be a «hill» with one or 2 cement tables. It maybe overgrown, but you will find a trail going up. It kinda veers to the left, and takes 15 – 25 minutes depending on how fit you are LOL. It isn’t a hike for fitness, and isn’t glamorous going through it, but once on top, it is a visual treat! If you are in the Ahuimanu area on a clear and dry day, check it out, and then treat yourself to Happy Hour at Haliewa Joe’s Haiku afterwards!
